europe has a regular cycle of being invaded by "barbarians" from the eurasian steppes. i haven't done any hard research into the subject but it seems to average every 800 years or so.
mongols, the Great Migration period and the fall of the roman empire, the hunnic invasion. they all come through south eastern europe, conquer the existing civilization and then take on their customs and live in the area.
same with greece, around 800bc there was an invasion of barbarians who became what we consider the classical greeks after they settled down. the "Jews" came into existence around the same time.
Atlantis is probably a story of an advanced civilization that amazed these nomadic barbarians. if you look at the mongol and hunnic invasions they take place after a warming period that begins to cool. makes sense since horses came from the eurasian plains. warm weather means more horses and enough for them to eat. colder weather the barbarians get restless as their horses don't have enough to eat and start to wander elsewhere to find food for them
I have an Apple TV and stream Netflix, ITunes and MLB on it
Like most people I have to plans to buy a nas for a 10tb movie library to stream. There are other things to do other than watch movies all the time. And I would buy the DVD before buying a nas just to hold compressed blu ray rips
Most books and movies are the same. Look at half the scifi books on amazon. Humans fighting aliens for some reason
When this happens you go with brand name or marketing to tell you what everyone else is buying
I check out the free books that indie authors drop the price on amazon to market their other books, and most times I rarely read them. They aren't that good and I go back to the brand name
I work remotely but go to the office as well. It's the only place to trade pirated movies via sneaker net, check out cool YouTube videos people are watching, hit the snobby coffee place with the single brew snobby coffee
onstar has an actual cell phone in the car that tracks your car and can be used in emergencies. its different than having a map on an internal computer and logging the GPS data of your driving habits.
there is a very good reason for tracking GPS and driving data of a car and uploading an annonymized version to the manufacturers systems for post-sale support when you take your car in for service
no, there is something called a standard of care. if a patient has symptoms, you do some tests and try to make a diagnosis. there are books that tell you what you have to do depending on the symptoms.
i know of people who filed medical malpractice suits and nothing happened. at best they might have been given a little money to make them go away. its not as easy as it sounds and those big winnings you read about is 1% of all cases at best. most of the scammers i know made more money in auto insurance injury scams. winning in a medical malpractice suit is hard and most times the doctor has to do something that is careless and against what he is supposed to do
to file a case the lawyer subpeonas the medical records and may exhume the body for another autopsy. you have to find something in the chart that proves the doctor did something wrong based on the patient's condition to have a chance to get past summary judgement.
the first creates a 10,000,000 row table with no indexes, no PK and then complains that the DBA's are dumb because the app is slow or the server is broke
the second kind i've seen have a 100 row table, with 10 columns and 15 indexes on it. sometimes half my day is spent on deleting unused indexes created by our BI devs
connecticut is the home to most of the gun manufacturers. the industry lobbying group is in sandy hook, close to the school that was shot up. the gun lobby is pushing the violent video game thing to keep guns legal
can't remember of the top of my head, but i've seen some devices act very flaky or not work with the MAC filtering enabled. and then i have it set up where my inlaws and I have the same SSID and password so that visiting each other's networks is very easy
very simple but i think it works. i limit mine to 5-10 IP's. usually a few more than the number of devices i have because iOS devices can be a bit flaky with going to sleep and keeping the IP while another device grabs it as well
sounds like idiotic gadgets that are available for almost any activity. reminds me of an old movie called Tin Cup about golf. the lead character would tell his students to junk all the gadgets and to just learn to play the game the old fashioned way.
a smartphone is just a star trek communicator/tricorder and data device. it does things everyone wished they could have done in the 1970's like have an encyclopedia handy at home when you were doing your work or do video calling
what does google glass do that people wish they could do now but can't

At some point after you die someone will throw the hard copy in the trash and delete the digital to make room for porn

there are not enough hours in the day to read every good book or listen to every good song or watch every good movie
that's why these charts exist. people are still into herd mentality
slashtarts? people who think the world is like star wars or star trek and everyone is always open and truthful and only hard work is enough
truth is there are lots of people with an idea close to yours and you need to market your idea to make money on it
There are companies that will "buy" your app to get you on the top of apple's charts
Apple has even been cracking down on it

If the interface to the sd card only supports slower speeds then a fast card is useless
And for things like watching movies or listening to music the slow cards should be enough
Totally disagree

Am I forgetting anything?
Someone files a false police report and someone's phone is bricked
Who's fault is it? I've known people who filed false rape reports and nothing happened

Other than better graphics I didn't see any improvements in gameplay from the promo videos
Apple just dropped the price on all their retina laptops

you can defeat almost every trick like mac filtering or limiting dhcp scope
your best bet is to go back to wired and not send your data over radio waves
if i have a device not work for some reason and i see an IP conflict then i'll know right away
my wife is always on her iphone on the wifi. the kids are always streaming something

people will actually spend money on this stuff?

cheaper to buy a new car instead of the glasses and the manual and the parts. or just pay someone to fix it
