    Traditional insurance assumes a payout of around 1% of people filing claims per year. The idea is you pay for decades and file one huge claim in that time that would bankrupt you otherwise

    Only health insurance is structured for you to use as much or more of what you pay in premiums

    i'm sure a 3 person start up is going to pay $200,000 to a retired federal judge to run their legal team

    if you retire in the area you worked as a judge in then you're limited by local employment

    lucy koh didn't award a cent. in fact she reduced an award that a jury of 12 people awarded apple

    if you're a corporate lawyer or judge presiding over corporate law lawsuits then you deal with so many companies that it would be impossible for you to get a job in your area if you had rules like this

    looks bad but in reality a judge like this will probably preside over cases with most companies in a given countries and lots of other large organizations. even if you institute a 2-3 year rule of not taking a job with a party to a lawsuit you preside over that is a lot of potential work and probably infringes on non-compete laws

    maybe 50 years ago, but tech is going so fast that most new investments are in the consumer field now

    by the time the government plans and funds a big project, the tech is out dated. don't even talk about implementation

    Most group one I see are over priced and from places I would never give my business to. The good deals are long gone because any good business will have repeat customers

    at some point the older aircraft become too expensive to maintain, rebuild, retrofit, etc. and airframe and everything else wears out. electronics die. less parts means it costs more per part.

    USA is not europe. half our states are larger than most european countries with population densities of a few people per square kilometer

    Google? they only have it in a few neighborhoods in one of the smallest cities in america

    i don't see google committing the $100 or $140 BILLION its estimated to cost to roll out fiber nationwide

    when google announces a plan to sell bonds at 7% or whatever the prevailing rate is to build out a nationwide gigabit or higher to the home network call me

    because TWC is right. most people don't care to pay more $$$ for the higher speeds. i have time warner 20/1 service for $50 a month. i would like a faster upload but don't want to pay for it. FIOS is coming in a few months to where i like for $70 for 15/5 and i don't plan on switching

    MS Office is too featured and too expensive for most users. Most home and small business users will be just fine with quickoffice or one of the free ones.

    MS screwed up by not having a cheap version. they used to have Works but never pushed it to the point of people knowing about it. only idiots spent $200 for MS Office at home

  20. and a cooler climate means colder winters and more oil is burned to keep warm. and in NYC there are lots of decades old boilers that spew toxic fumes into the air after burning the oil. no one wants to replace them until they break due to cost
    i'll take AC's and slightly warmer outside air any day over toxic smoke

    last decade when active X came out and the promise of applications in IE, i thought it was cool.
    for years nothing happened except for flash

    i'm perfectly happy with chrome now and web apps like feedly, evernote and others. IE is still in the stone age of the internet where you have to visit a web site to read the content
