I just hope the astronauts don't have arachnophobia.
Just imagine, you're in outer space, trapped inside a sealed container, no place to go, and you feel something moving inside your AstroSleepTight (tm) bag...
Good point - Perhaps he could make out it's just for home network sharing, although by saying he doesn't want to go the rendezvous route with auto-discovery because he wants the ability to share over a wider network, he might be landing him in (potential) trouble.
I think you'll find checking string arguments would be a hell of a lot more useful than checking inodes in this case.
mkdir ~/mydir; cd ~/mydir; mkdir mydir; mv mydir..
You are moving a directory in your pwd to it's parent. If the directory you are moving has the same name as the directory you are in, you get a kernel panic.
To be fair, I think the government will actually get these statistics from elsewhere. Would you rather trust medical records and doctors or Amazon to tell you if someone is pregnant?
Do I really need to run a ftp daemon as root, if all I need is a privileged (<1024) access port, and no other privileged feature? Wouldn't it make more sense to run the ftpd as a normal user, with an option set that allowed the socket allocation only to run with elevated privileges?
Yeah, if that normal user has write permissions into every directory that the users logging into the server will want to write into... That's the problem, a normal user won't have.
However, thinking about it, the expiration years only start totting up after the death of the creator (Enid Blyton was the example I had in mind), so in this case, he's going to have to wait even longer...
In Disney's case, Mickey Mouse is a trademark as you say, so that is exempt from copyright anyway, so I'm guessing it was someone else pulling a strop...
Yeah, you are correct. Unfortunately, the time period of expiration of copyright (in the UK at least) is 50 years... So I'm guessing you've got a few years to plan your database, and what information you can mine from it;)
How will hosting in Sealand help exactly? "Sealand" is inside British territory, and their law regarding this sort of thing is similiar to that in the US (and most other countries)

You're right, accuracy counts
Be very careful with this - If you are testing, or accidentally gonna do this, you will lose both directories and all data in them.
In the spirit of scientific testing, I have just subjected my iBook to this - And sure enough, you get an instant kernel panic.
Found the offending piece of code in Darwin ...
...
BOOL HFSPLUS_Directory_Move( const char *src, const char *dest ) {
if ( !strcmp( src, dest ) ) {
__kernelPanic( KP_IMMEDIATE );
}
}
None of the software is available for download - Quoting their site:
OBTAINING SPACE SYNTAX SOFTWARE
Please contact Dr Beatriz Campos for information on obtaining space syntax software.
(Ignoring Matrix reference)
I believe not, you just need to click the disk icon then "quit".
Not a bad idea - Then slashdot readers will know how social interaction works :)
Will Wright mentions his desire to see TSO to grow into a community similar to Slashdot's."
...
What? A community where everyone goes around saying "IANAL, but "?
Not sure I want to play this
What's a hampster?
Best laugh I've had in a good while, thanks Steve!

Irony ... You're American right? :)
you're spelling is also astounding ... :)
If you don't mind, can you list five "draconian human rights violations"? Please ...
And give the trolls a way to DoS?
I may be 75 years, IANAL either!

Bastard companies? Why are they bastard companies exactly?

No name, no slogan, no legal precedent that says an EULA cannot refer to itself

You have a MSCE but can't spell Microsoft? Good luck with that ...
