I've never heard of either event. Quick googling suggests Burning Man is an arts event, SxSW a pop concert. How is either of them "news for nerds". Well, ok, it was news for me, but hardly "stuf that matter".
You really cannot accuse someone for lacking class, and then consistently spell their name worng:) Not that your accusation may lack substance, but still..
Professor Tol told the BBC: You have a very silly statement in the draft summary that says that people who live in war-torn countries are more vulnerable to climate change, which is undoubtedly true. But if you ask people in Syria whether they are more concerned with chemical weapons or climate change, I think they would pick chemical weapons - that is just silliness.
Not with the fundamentals:
Prof Tol does not dispute the view that climate change is caused by man - but he says its impact has been exaggerated.
You fight like a dairy farmer! Yet you found the crux of the matter: people have issues. Can't be fixed, so it must be endured. I for one would not mind people being nicer to each other. I know, I know. Its too much to ask...
https://www.kansalaisaloite.fi/fi 50k "Likes" (not of Facebook, though - but I bet that is just around the corner), and your idea for a law goes to parliament for a vote. HOW does Sweden beat us (again!), now in this sense?
The flip side of this "personal responsibility" is allowing wackos dictate how I dress, which is the gentle start of a slippery slope. (Who else can dictate how I dress. What else can these wackos dictate I do.)
But civilization in general is a balancing act on several of these slippery slopes.
I don't understand why you'd list Hyundai to this. According to the truth table you posted, they have ticked all four boxes. Also seems I was too hasty about Volvo, but then that is Apple marketing for you:)
Not being an Apple customer, these three car brands now seem less tempting. Irrational, I know - the car is still the same, but there the feeling sits. Who'd want to drive an applecart?
This is probably not going to affect the amount of Ferraris I purchase, to be honest.
No longer true, and American just visiting investigative reporting websites means you will be spied on these days
That USA spies on its natives doesn't mean foreigners would have anywhere equal rights. A foreigner just being foreign is suspicious enough. Listening to the american politicians talk, it sounds like they don't even consider "foreigners" human.
But this trash talk probably is just EU propaganda... Or perhaps not: I read press from a country rahter high up on the "press freedoms" list. Then again, this country being so high up on the list *does* sound suspicious. I wonder if that list looks different when accessing it from IPs geolocated in other countries.
The line between rent and own is very, very clear in the case of steam and other similar services.
This is perhaps the crux of the matter and the reason people here too act outraged. Any and all intellectual property goods are distributed on a rent model, not an ownership basis, per definition. Physical media, like CDs or cars or license dongles have an implicit reselling-allowed clause in them (and sometimes an explicit reselling-deined one...) for that particular item. This seems to confuse the matter further. Even the infamous "car analogy" works here: if you could, would you be allowed to make an identical *copy* of your car, and start selling those? (as opposed to just building your own cars).
You must evaluate steam and any other subscription service on their own terms. Is what they offer value for money? Can I trust them to deliver? I don't. Well... didn't. Then I heard they have Civilization V... Huge fan. Must buy^W get it.
Finnish? "TÃhtitiede" and "astrologia" are sufficiently far apart. Unfortunately, "astronomia" is readily understood by (I'd guess) any finn, but you could in a questionnaire sufficiently remove any confusion by first asking about "tÃhtitiede", and later about "astrologia". Mixing "tÃhtitiede" and "astronomia" into the same text sounds too moronic.
This is what I hate about GPU (opensource) drivers. Never EVER can anyone give full explanations on what the heck is going on. Instead we get oblique hints which more or less equals "RTFS". Or in some rare cases, RTFM. Every time I try to google this stuff up, I ragequit in despair after two hours.

here's a more realistic assessment from a real economist
As opposed to what other sort of economists?

He also said a key portion of the piece - where he is quoted telling the reporter on his doorstep before two police officers
I know one should not mention the pink elephant in the room, but why did the newsweek reported do the interview with the police present?
So, do you trust Linus Torvalds?

Also, the phone is still just a rumour. Wouldn't be surprised if the entrie thing turned out to be just a UI update for Asha.
At every large company I worked at (Apple, HP, SGI) they told us to help patent "stuff" as a defensive measure.
Patent TROLLS are the aggressors, do you blame these companies for planning ahead and preparing to defend themselves from bullies?

That reminds me, I should make a donation.
I really like Slashot Beta. Not only does it look & feel nicer, but all stupid units of measure are automatically converted to SI units.
