Google doing weather the Google way? I can see it now...
It is a cold, dreary, Midwest morning. I'm driving to a client site through refrozen snow slush. I realize that my thermostat is set way too low and numbly turn it up to 80F. Suddenly, my car navigation system starts giving me strange directions, which of course, I obey. Ten hours later I realize I'm in Florida....I could live with that.
First, let me say that by no means am I defending Mr. Gates. However, I am confused by your second point of analysis on Gates' stance on incentive.
...and 2) he's got a very limited comprehension of the world around him other than what he knows himself.
What is anyones' level of comprehension of that which they do not know?
I do agree with the sentiment of your post. I find it suprising that someone with the supposed worldliness of Mr. Gates could be so blinded by his vocation, making money, to assume that everyone is compelled by the same mechanisms by which he is driven.
Think of this as a replacement / addition to sketch pads and coloring books. But, with the huge added benefit of 3d animation.
There is nothing wrong with children having time for art. I'm not saying that they should stay inside on a nice sunny day. Kids need art; and, this seems like a good way for them to express themselves. Except, of course, on nice sunny days they should express themselves by running around outside like the little animals that they are.
I've downloaded the trial and have watched the intro movie. I'll turn my kids loose on it tomorrow and if they like it, I will buy a copy.

They heard that CBS was investigating the story and they immediately went in to damage control. The documents were clandestinely delivered to Kerry supporters so that they would then be given to CBS. They were made to be so juicy that CBS wouldn't be able to see through all of the drool that they were obvious forgeries.
The Bush family has a history in the intelligence business. I wouldn't put this past them.
Sure, the documents are forgeries, but is the story true or false? As it stands now, the story is in a quantum state, awaiting the collapse of a wave function.
An interesting point that I have considered many times.
Those that want to keep "God" in the U.S. pledge, etc., claim that "God" is a generic term for a spiritual, not religious concept; and, therefore, does not endorse any specific religion. Bill O'Reilly holds this belief, as do many conservatives.
Those that want to remove "God" from the U.S. pledge, etc., claim that "God" is the proper name for the Judeo-Christian supreme being and represents an endorsement by the U.S. government of a specific religion. Which is, of course, unconstitutional.
My suggestion to mend this dilema has always been to uncapitalize "God" thereby removing the association with the Judeo-Christian supreme being. Hell, I'd even be for making it plural... One nation, under gods, indivisible...
My unrealistic suggestion is to change "God" to "the laws of physics".
Years back, in the Windows 3.0a days, I rigged up a coworker's desk for April 1.
I placed a large thumbtack on the underside of a desk drawer and ran segments of fishing line from the tack, out the back of the desk, to various objects on the desk -- phone, stapler, calendar, etc.
I left a note on his chair that said, "Check out the printouts I made from www.whitehouse.com. They are in your filing drawer."
My office was across the hall and I waited for him to arrive. Listening near the door, I heard him say, "Cool!" and then came the crashes and the obscenities.
Of course I was nice enough to actually put some porn in the filing drawer.
I have two boys, 9 and 6, that stumbled across my old Monty Python videotapes. I played "Holy Grail" for them and they were in stitches. I played "Life of Brian", and not suprisingly, the more sophisticated content was so over their heads that they didn't enjoy it. I played "Meaning of Life" and they were just plain confused, but laughing.
Maybe after a few more years of Catholic school, my sons will appreciate the brilliance of "Life of Brian". For now, "Holy Grail" is the hit.
The last time we watched it, my 9 year old son answered the question, "What is the capital of Assyria?". "Nineva, you dolt!" he exclaimed. He smiled and smugly looked up to me and said, "I googled it. I don't want to be blasted off of some bridge." That's my boy.
The dual channel ddr controller included on the FX51 makes a huge difference. I had to fill all 4 slots on my mobo to take advantage of it, but the performance increase is noticeable. PC2100 -- ugh.
BTW, I got my FX51 for $404 at gameve.com. A few hours after I ordered mine, the price was back to $750 or so. I'm a lucky shopper.
In January, I built an Athlon64 FX51 system. I debated the merits of getting the 940 vs. waiting for the 939 and decided that I will have to upgrade the motherboard in a year anyway. Why? PCI Express should be readily available, and market tested by then.
Besides, everytime I have actually upgraded a processor, I have also had to buy new memory and motherboard to accompany it. There's no sense putting a shiny new processor in and having it use old, slow memory on an old slow, bus.
However, just last week, I had to replace the mb in my kids' computer - I got a kt600 board in anticipation of upgrading their Athlon XP 1900+ and PC2100 at some point.
How much do you want to bet that by the time I need to upgrade that processor and memory, I will still need to buy a new mobo in order to utilize the new features of whatever processor or memory architecture I use.
BTW, I LOVE MY FX51 MACHINE! I built the whole system for just $3200 ($1150 was the display). For work stuff, I run Gentoo Linux compiled for AMD64, and for games, regular 32 bit Windows XP Pro. Absolutely no complaints. Wolfenstein Enemy Territory shows 60-90fps at 1600x1200 full detail.
My god, you are depressing.
Nevertheless, you are absolutely correct.
You just ruined my buzz at then end of 4/20. Thanks.

This guy really pisses me off. I think I'll trademark "Foley" and make him quit using my last name.
Die, you gravy sucking pig. Bastard.
Arthur: The stars are swirling. The Earth is slipping away! Ford?
Ford: Yes?
Arthur: You're turning in to a penguin. Stop it.
Oh wait, its the other way around now?

There is a porn/auto-erotica joke in there somewhere. However, I have a cold/fever and my brain isn't working properly.

Many slashdotters hate windows because they don't understand how to configure and use it.
Notice that I said:
Don't run with admin priviledges. I know this is impossible for most Windows users
The same thing goes here, most windows users don't understand how to configure and use it.
The Bush administration created these documents!
They heard that CBS was investigating the story and they immediately went in to damage control. The documents were clandestinely delivered to Kerry supporters so that they would then be given to CBS. I agree with another poster, "Kodos 2004"
I, and perhaps many others, would be very happy if everyone would just do the following:
:)
1) DON'T BUY SPAMVERTISED PRODUCTS.
2) STOP USING IE. There are lots of great alternatives.
3) Use a decent ingress/egress firewall.
4) Keep AV software updated. And, keep it running!
5) Don't run with admin priviledges. I know this is impossible for most Windows users.
6) Don't call me when you screw up your computer and expect me to fix it as a favor!
P.S. I shouldn't bitch so much. I've made a decent amount of money removing malware during the last six months.

I just checked the Amazon page... it appears that the phone has caller ID, but not call waiting caller ID (ie, caller ID for those calls on call
? sr c=sonysupport
Well, the phone does indeed have call-waiting caller-id. I use it regularly.
You can download the manual from this link:
http://www.iq.sony.com/srvs/sosdocs/default.asp
Search for SPP-A968. Look on page 46 and all will become clear.
This phone has everything except for the multi-handset base station. I've had mine for years and it is a good phone.
