Yup, second that. 10.5.7 does not patch that flaw. I do not have NoScript, but since I use mostly Firefox, my solution was to disable Java in Firefox, but leave it running on Safari (I had the SafariView Addon long before this).
That way, If I get a legitimate need for Java, I can use safari to open the (trusted) page and do my work.
That RedHat, Suse and the FSF come up with similar programs, both in breadth and # of persons reached.
That way, the computer Illiterate can choose what technology to learn, and are armed and ready when the ceconomy picks up in three years time...
And let's also hope that Microsoft, RedHat, Suse, the FSF, Cisco, Juniper, IBM, Oracle, Sun and the gang rememeber that this is a GLOBAL crisis, and launch similar programs worldwide....
Bridging the "digital divide" will only be good for America and for the World
Wikipedia has ben criticized for many things, for being full of trivial minutiæ, to having more errors, to being a possible source of circular references. while you may, or may not agree with those claims, the fact is that the articles where "checked and reviewed" (one can only hope that the people who did the "checking and reviewing" were qualified).
If that is the case, then welcome, this is a GREAT tool for teaching at a low cost with very little overhead!
I am a Spanish speaker. I really enjoyed LoTR books in Spanish, therefore, when in Canada, I tried the Silmarilion in English... Better not! While my English is acceptable (296/300 in my ToEFL, much worse 3 years after the fact), I could not get past the ancient english.
From then on I read every Tolkien book (silmarilion, unfinished tales, lost tales) in Good Spanish translations and enjoyed each and every one. The trick is that they use FORMAL Spanish to translate the ancient english, instead of ussing ANCIENT spanish.
I guess that Mr. Negroponte's anger comes from the fact that things are not turning out as he envisioned, and he rather put the blame on someone else, whithout admiting ANY PERCENTAGE WHATSOEVER of errors in the foundation's strategy.
The company discourages you to view porn on your work PC, and you did for the past 5 years without a single reprimend, and all of the sudden, they take out all the logs and fire you. Two friends ofmine received that treatment. It was not because a non compete, just that their boss want them fired, without paying them severance, and that was the excuse.
Or you reheated fish in the microwave. Have a mesy desk...
Any reason will be a good reason for them.
This keeps comming back on/. and the best advice is still (in order):
Get a good (labor) lawyer. Review contract with him.
Of a very badly writen abstract. Can someone please write better sumaries? If you get me my H1-B, I can do it on the cheap from Oklahoma, or such place.
I also like to be able to play my old games in modern machines, but alas, that is not always possible. Keep a few old machines handy, in case you need to play your old DOS favorites, or your Win9x ones.
My only hope is that at some time, a combination of modern HW+Virtualization done right allow me to play my old favourites in modern HW, retiring in the process my compatibility fleet of computers.
...GPU, Chipset and Memory. All those componets obey Moore's Law, and Hard Drives actually exceed Moore's law.
The thing is that there are other component's in the Laptop that do not obey More's law. The Screen and Keyboard come to mind. Their prices get lower over time, but that owes more to process improvements and economies of scale, and is nowhere near a exponential redution. Screws, connectors, capacitors, speakers, touchpads, discrete transistors, outter plastic shell, manufacturing costs, storage and distribution costs, all those costs add up.
The reason those computers use "outdated" processors is to squeeze as much savings from "Moore law obeying components" as possible, so there is money left to pay for the less glamorous components.
Even in chip design, at some point Moore's law has had so much time to work that the dominant cost for some ICs is the plastic package they are on.
No, If you stop buying CITGO products you do not shut Chavez up. Venezuela sells a lot of oil to other producers/refiners beyond CITGO. Heck, actually, a lot of the oil that CITGO refines comes from Mexico. Whant to shut Chavez up? Support Sugar Cane Ethanol, Support diesel, bio-diesel and alternative energy. Even better, sell the Car and use a bike or mass transportation instead.
"Mission Acomplished" (probably dressed as a paratrooper in a chinese aircraft carrier, a la Bush).
RCTV was the channel with the most geographical reach (nearly 100% of the country). Here in Venezuela, the "regional TV station" is a very recent phenomenon. Most of the TV stations are repeaters of national chains, and being the oldest, RCTV had the most coverage.
By replacion RCTV with a new station, Chavez acomplishes two goals, get out of the way a big nuance, and replacing that signal with on he can easily control (he is not controlling it yet, but now is quite easy).
In a country were internet penetration is low, and Broadband even lower, and where internet is mostly used by people who already opose Chavez, loosing the free/broadcast opposing medium is quite a blow for disension (I will not YET claim is a loss in freedom of expression).
Anyway, as I sit here (in Maracay http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maracay) configuring my new laptop, I receive (Radio, MSN, SMS) reports of protests all over the country... But do not be fooled, these are not riots (thanks the lord), and Chavez already survived a general 3 month strike. Therefore, in about two weeks the protests will subside, the thing will be forgoten, and the same university students who are protesting now will be watching RCTV in YouTube using the campus broadband...
Get an "Industry Standard OpenVMS" (that the name HP gives to that beast) and use it as your main file server and config info repository. All the features you desire are there by default.
While this response was accurate from the technical point of view, it was meant to be a joke
Aside from the red tape, and all such crap there are a few solutions that will allow you to have a MSC+HLR+BSC+BTS but will not scale well, and since , OpenSS7 is barely usable, if at all, there is no way to scale.
oh, and forget about roaming to your local provider when not in coverage if you do not sign a roaming agreement (highly unlikely).
Grab a phone from nokia or others that dose the wi-fi to gsm trick, use voice over IP to lower costs, deploy a comprehensive wi-fi network in your campus, and you will be better served...
Oh, and by the way, six years of experience in the second (734-02) GSM operator in Venezuela (in the telecomms area, just in case someone was wandering)
We have identified plenty of objects that appear to be black holes, or wormholes, or whatever... and yet no single trace of an object spitting out matter like the end of those wormholes. Until a working wormhole is created, or a matter spitter is located, I'll leave this to Stephen and his ilk
In the 70s and early 80s, most if not all porn was produced using film, and then, maybe, transferred to Betamax or VHS. So, our parents, if they went to the XXX cinema in town, enjoyed High Def Widescreen porn long before we did.
While most of that material would be considered crap by todays standards of beauty of the performers, or production values, since is done in Film, all that material is succeptible to be converted to HD-DVD.
I, for one, would pay for a good HD transfer of certain movies of that era, like "For the Love of Pleasure" or "The Devil in Ms. Jones" or "Behind the Green Door"
The only problem I forsee in this scheme is the tangle that the copyrights is now, with long gone companies being acquired by others time and again, and resellers in other countries geting non-clear rights.
The other useful effect of porn's entry in the HD-DVD camp is that their economies of scale will make Disk pressing Even cheaper, both for porn HD-DVDs as well as for regular content HD-DVDs
Where almost no one can see it, lies a big bunch of corba code. The only problem is that the guys reinvented partt of the wheel, so is only 90% corba.....
I worked in telecomms, and used/administered both a Nokia NMS2000 and a Siemens OMC-S and OMC-B
While is WAY more complex than SNMP (rmeember te S is for simple) is Extremely reliable, and has many advantages over SNMP:
Atomic transactions: In Q.3 you can specify a complex configuration change and be certain that, in case of a failure mid-process, your system will be either in the initial state, or the final one, but not in an intermediate state (the lack of this feature, plus the security issues are the reason no one uses SET in SNMP).
In Q.3 traps can be acknowledged, therefore, no need to send and resend time and time again.
In Q.3 the concept of trap clearance is part of the standard, and not something that each vendor implements on its own.
So, more than only monitoring, Q.3 provides REAL management. Is sad that telecom equipment makers are moving away from it and to an inferior standard (SNMP)
Yes there was A LOT of S&D. And yes, there is still some S&D going on (possibly you were thinking about the CISCO source code), but each day, less and less S&D. And if they join with India, they will not need S&D anymore, so, grow up man!
I do have modpoints, but sadly, I already posted in this discussion (a tip). So:
Someone please mod parent up!

That the Intel Clasmate PC run Linux, not windows?
In many of the responses to this article, people talk about the "Wintel". No guys.
Microsoft actually is working very hard, and with the blessing of Mr. Negroponte, no less, toport windows to the OLPC:

Ship the phone with tone enabled by default.
Put a red flier in the box saying that the tone is there, and how to disable it for non-blind people.
Put a braile card in the box for blind people explaining how to test if the tone is there, and how to enable it.
Enjoy!
s called customizability.
And meanwhile, the maker of the Red flier and the braile flier wil.... Profit?
For whatever reason. An excuse is at hand.

Sign & Begin looking for new job.
Stop taking part in intrigue campaings for the next VideoGame/Movie/Book/TVSeries
Also, no inside jokes from scientists. After Gary Larson, none of that is allowed anymore.
Mod me as you like!
Diversification. That is a very dangerous proposition, especialy for a company which, while highly valued, is not THAT profitable.
They started with the books.
then doing stores fr other merchants.
Then a search engine.
Now datacenters.
Wish them well, but honest to god, I donot know how that may end well.
