Maybe. I think that it is part of the increasing "stranglehold" that copyright has become.
There was a time when you could take bits, pieces, and samples and use them in a wholly new creation (like this trailer seems to be). Such use would happen under "fair use".
But judge's eyes seem to glass over when a copyright case comes before them and will invariably rule for the plaintiff when plaintiff asserts that somebody used a piece of his work. This is helped by congress who is more than ready to serve special interests over that of public interest. (google Disney Hatch CTEA DMCA).
Next up: copyrighting "facts" and "numbers", which before where not copyrightable. This will open up a whole new world of corporate/political whoring so they can smack down some small website so they can protect their "profit", trampling the first amendment even more.
Funny thing is, Senator Hatch is the one continually proposing an constitutional amendment to prevent people from trampling on the flag. He's so self deluded that he doesn't realize that he tramples the constitution with the legislation he has sponsored/help sponsor (CTEA DMCA Patriot Act (he's a tool for Ashcroft)).
You would think so. Indeed, parody is part of the Star Trek Culture.
But that hasn't stopped Paramount from suing people anyway. There was one local production company that had to fold their production of "Star Wreck" because they couldn't afford the legal fees.
It's the corporate way to heavy-hand people into what they want done regardless of constitutional rights. Paramount is one such company.
If I ever I had the resources, I'd like to put on my own production of "Star Wreck" with the intention of letting Paramount take me to court so I could prove a point. But it would be like taking a heap of money and making a bonfire. At least with the bonfire you could warm your hands though.
The Blind Men and the Elephant John Godfrey Saxe (1816-1887)
It was six men of Indostan To learning much inclined, Who went to see the Elephant (Though all of them were blind), That each by observation Might satisfy his mind.
The First approached the Elephant, And happening to fall Against his broad and sturdy side, At once began to bawl: "God bless me! but the Elephant Is very like a WALL!"
The Second, feeling of the tusk, Cried, "Ho, what have we here, So very round and smooth and sharp? To me 'tis mighty clear This wonder of an Elephant Is very like a SPEAR!"
The Third approached the animal, And happening to take The squirming trunk within his hands, Thus boldly up and spake: "I see," quoth he, "the Elephant Is very like a SNAKE!"
The Fourth reached out an eager hand, And felt about the knee "What most this wondrous beast is like Is mighty plain," quoth he: "'Tis clear enough the Elephant Is very like a TREE!"
The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear, Said: "E'en the blindest man Can tell what this resembles most; Deny the fact who can, This marvel of an Elephant Is very like a FAN!"
The Sixth no sooner had begun About the beast to grope, Than seizing on the swinging tail That fell within his scope, "I see," quoth he, "the Elephant Is very like a ROPE!"
And so these men of Indostan Disputed loud and long, Each in his own opinion Exceeding stiff and strong, Though each was partly in the right, And all were in the wrong!
It proves beyond a reasonable doubt that there are stringed patterns of acoustic energy in the universe that when they hit the optic nerve produce a sedative like effect in biological organisms.
Actually what happens is something called deflation, when prices drop, nobody can afford to buy anything, and nobody has a job.
This is alot worse than a recession, and is called a depression, or what our grandparents suffered though in the thirties.
WalMart could afford to pay their employees more than $6/hr, but they are too concerned for their shareholders and the profit bottom line. See the link in the parent post.
Unfortunately the only jobs that are going to be left for americans to work at is going to be at the local WalMart. There will be no shortage of those jobs.
Just that all the high-skilled jobs will go to oversea programmers who have no problem working for $.25 an hour.
Nice idea. The only problem is look how many people vote now. What's to say that things will change with an "overhaul". There could be a forceful overhaul now if 100% of the citzenry took the elections seriously.
Ok, why do you say this?
For those that are curious, at today's exchange rate;

I'm sure that they have to sign a contract and put a deposit against the cameras.
It looks like a neat service, but I can still see the acttractiveness of using disposables.
Yup, just watching babe. Personally I think it needs less "Pirk" and more "babe".
The subtitles were rolling a bit too fast for me. But there was something about power levels 96% (after my third viewing).

I digress. This is not a troll. Research it.

After paramount finishes suing finnish butts.
In space, no one can hear you scream.
I don't know what that babe was saying in finnish, but she sure is cute BTW.
This will be an isolated singularity hidden for all time in the vast infiniteness of time.
Until the video hits the internet.
But what matters is that she is good at lovin'
How dare you criticize Windows troll!!! I'm running Windows 98 right now and I have had an uptime of a couple of hours!!
You should realize Windows is a wonderful syste^D^D^D^D^D^D^D NO CARRIER
Except that everybody would have to go around callling it Gnu/Winux.
Aren't you insecure anyway?
It's called "bait n' switch, internet style"
Yeah, it's clear that it was torpedoed.
Why not just have Apple (or any online service) provide recording studio time and some advertising?
There is a good reason why Apple computer will not pursue such a venture.
Here is the poem;
The Blind Men and the Elephant
John Godfrey Saxe (1816-1887)
It was six men of Indostan
To learning much inclined,
Who went to see the Elephant
(Though all of them were blind),
That each by observation
Might satisfy his mind.
The First approached the Elephant,
And happening to fall
Against his broad and sturdy side,
At once began to bawl:
"God bless me! but the Elephant
Is very like a WALL!"
The Second, feeling of the tusk,
Cried, "Ho, what have we here,
So very round and smooth and sharp?
To me 'tis mighty clear
This wonder of an Elephant
Is very like a SPEAR!"
The Third approached the animal,
And happening to take
The squirming trunk within his hands,
Thus boldly up and spake:
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a SNAKE!"
The Fourth reached out an eager hand,
And felt about the knee
"What most this wondrous beast is like
Is mighty plain," quoth he:
"'Tis clear enough the Elephant
Is very like a TREE!"
The Fifth, who chanced to touch the ear,
Said: "E'en the blindest man
Can tell what this resembles most;
Deny the fact who can,
This marvel of an Elephant
Is very like a FAN!"
The Sixth no sooner had begun
About the beast to grope,
Than seizing on the swinging tail
That fell within his scope,
"I see," quoth he, "the Elephant
Is very like a ROPE!"
And so these men of Indostan
Disputed loud and long,
Each in his own opinion
Exceeding stiff and strong,
Though each was partly in the right,
And all were in the wrong!
There's also CUSS

mildly amusing.
Anyways, what will this accomplish?
It proves beyond a reasonable doubt that there are stringed patterns of acoustic energy in the universe that when they hit the optic nerve produce a sedative like effect in biological organisms.
In other words, it's novocaine for the eyes.

It would seem that way. But what happens when americans can't even afford to buy the stuff at WalMart anymore?
Are the people in China who work for $.25/hr going to be able to go shopping at WalMart?
Unfortunately the only jobs that are going to be left for americans to work at is going to be at the local WalMart. There will be no shortage of those jobs.

I certainly understand your cynicism. It does seem to be a greed based system with little hope for change.
And it doesn't make sense to vote for something you no longer believe in.
There are alternatives (i.e. green party), but they don't represent the moderate views of the majority of the electorate.

I am not optmistic about that.
girl that everybody liked. But she told you "No" and you wondered if "No" really meant "Yes" afterall.
But her parents had to call your parents to clarify that "No" really meant "No" for really positive for sure.
It's like that.
Maybe it was just me.....
