I have come to the conclusion that language such as this, that of advertising, marketing, that of middle- and upper-management and politics is simply the language of the uber incompetent. In other words - make it sound important and significant to make it look like they know what they are talking about even when they don't have a frickin clue.
MS realizes that its business model is under threat They, Microsoft, are still missing the cause. They are under threat because of who and what they are. Buying Yahoo will not fix things. It will make things even worse for them. If this happens, people will leave Yahoo services in droves because the big bully monopolist, aka Evil Empire, bought them out.
If I had the capital, and this buy out was to proceed, I would do my damndest to build a Yahoo replacement as fast as possible by hiring away their best and brightest.
Google's core revenue generating business is not search, nor email, nor online apps, it is advertising. Google uses the revenue from advertising to give away all the other services - this is truly evil because it makes it impossible to compete with them. If Google's advertising revenue dried up, absolutely everything would blow away in the dust.
This is something that the damned Yankees would do as prelude to invading Iran -- to stop all the bloggers from documenting the invasion and getting the rest of the Arab and Muslim worlds up in arms.

What would this mean to Yahoo E-mail? Or Flickr? Or the great web developer toolkits Yahoo has release? Just imagine the migration of all Yahoo services over to Windows Server. Unless they leave it alone, whatever Microsoft does would be the kiss of death to what Yahoo is.

I did and even after reinstalling Vista without all of the HP cr*pware, I still stuck with XP.
I have two 120GB 5400 RPM laptop drives where I can swap between XP and Vista in minutes and find myself using XP simply because the machine feels faster in doing everything.

It'll never happen, because there is no way Google would do anything to reduce it's revenue, but they really need to do something about Google Ad Spam on web pages. More and more web sites have more Google Ad 'content' than real, useful information. First there was email spam, now we have Google Spam. Blah.
