There's no reason why it should break within such a short timespan! I've bought dozens of consoles, and all of them still work. Some of them are over 20 years old!

Not sure why you got modded flamebait. It's true. Extending the warranty is not enough. I don't want to pay for an Xbox replacement in one year, and I don't want to pay in three years, and I don't want to pay in five years, and I still want to use my Xbox in 10 years when I can't pay even if I want to.

For heaven's sake, my VCS 2600 still works as well as the day it came out the box. I have a Pong, and it still works as well as the day it came out. And I still hook them up from time to time! There's no reason why all these 360s should die so easily, and if I want to play a little Crackdown 10 years from now, I should be able to.

I'd tend to Sony simply because they're incompetent. If Microsoft gains control of the console market, they're not going to fuck around and screw it up next gen. They're going to make damn sure they stay in control, and they're going to do whatever it takes, see Windows. Sony, on the other hand, is too disorganized internally.

If one of them is to win, I want it to be Sony. Not because they're more moral, but because they're more incompetent.

  14. Not really on A Catalog of Lost PS3 Exclusives · · Score: 1

Exclusives are good for a platform's health. I bought a PS3 and a Wii, and I'm not going to buy a 360. Currently, there are pretty much no games available for the PS3, and many of those that are are also available (often in superior versions) on the 360. Obviously, the PS3 isn't selling well, so games aren't showing up.

A few A-list exclusives could changes that. They could give people an incentive to buy a PS3, which would publishers give an incentive to put more effort into their PS3 ports, and create more original PS3 titles. I'm not a Sony or Playstation fanboy. I've never owned a PS1 or a PS2, and I try to avoid Sony's stuff whenever possible. But from my perspective, as an owner of a PS3, I want more PS3 exclusives.

I agree about the age of the titles. Older stuff is missing, as well as PC-only games. But the fact that the list is slanted towards Nintendo is no surprise. They quite simple churn out the most innovative, balanced and awesome games. No other publisher can compare with Nintendo. This sounds fanboy-ish, but frankly, in my opinion, Nintendo alone has about 30 titles that would deserve a place in a top-10 videogames list. Where's SMB3, A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening, Metroid Prime, Goldeneye?

Nintendo deserves every spot they got in this list.

The issue is probably that you can't really do an ordered top-10 videogames list. There's too much subjectivity involved. You may personally not like even one single Nintendo game, but then, I think that Halo has no place in any videogames top-10 list other than "top 10 games that kept a console from tanking completely."

That makes no sense. At all. "Free software" doesn't stand for anything. It has a license, and if Apple adheres to the license - and until there is reasonable suspicion that they don't, I'll go with that - there's no reason for them not to use free software. To this day Super Mario Bros 2 is my favorite of the entire series. I don't know what it is. The game just seemed even more surreal than any of the others. The enemies seems more inventive too. The others are all great, but there's something I just like about that particular version.

You probably already know that, but the reason for this is that SMB2 was not actually a Mario game. It was a Japanese game based on a TV show (I think). It's called Doki Doki Panic and got a sprite swap for the US and Euro versions.

Also, what's wrong with the VC emulation? I've never noticed anything amiss, other than the lack of rumble. In fact, most games look quite a bit better on the Wii than they used to. The VC isn't the place for remakes, it's the place to buy old games... Eventually, we'll get new games and remakes, too, but not in the VC.
