Really? I have found that to be the opposite. I had a laptop that had faulty memory and Windows would not even install on the laptop, but Linux not only installed, but ran very stable on it.

Both platforms are good for the projects they are used for. In this case you have to use the right tool for the job. There is no one for all solution. Though, some of the people who post here seem to believe this... ;)

We run our whole warehouse management system on OS/2 Warp Server e-Business, DB2 7, and Workspace on Demand. It is not just a hobbyist operating system. It's a valuable business solution for our needs. Its funny, we have been purchased recently and the new company runs windows based platform and their management system does not do, or even come close to, actually manage a warehouse. Even our new management is claiming if we migrate our business over to their platform that we would be taking a step back. They are having a hard time justifying us moving to their platform! This is good news and proves that OS/2 can still be a viable business option.

I think its fair that the MPAA and RIAA are doing this. I rather them find ways to combat piracy on their own than having the government "force" legistaltion that prevents consumer rights and fair use rights such as the "Hollings Bill". This should prove to the courts and legislators that these groups DO have a way to protect their copywrite work and this should debunk their argument about needing more legistaltion.

True, but the Green party is not as big as the Libertarian party and the Libertarians won more local elections than any other party. Its how many members and how many are elected, not how much votes the presidential candidate got. If that was the case, then the Reform party would be leading the pack!

I disagree. Libertarians are slowly winning local governments all over the country. They are the largest "3rd" party and the fastest growing. Once they become more dominent in local government voters will support then in state government then the presidency. In short, if you vote for your local Libertarian, then you are voting for the future of the Libertarian party in State and National government. A wasted vote is a vote you did not want.

You guys only looking at part of the picture. I wont go into it, but I am looking at one of the warehouses that does distributions for one of the Music Companies and they employ 200+ people. Now think about this, there are over 10 of these warehouses and I am sure the workforce is around the same. What am I getting at? Well that $15 CD has to stretch so far to pay not only Marketing, producing, labeling, stickering, etc.. But also pay the people to do this along with distribute it. Also, you have to take into account the RETURNS! Yes, Returns are BIG, so maybe the artist only gets .000076 of the profit, the studios are getting around the same. As for ONLINE Distribution... Well, were do you think they got the music from? A hard copy of what they distribute, they still need to pay the same workforce. As many pointed out, Musicians make their money on the Shows(Performance, T-shirts, etc..). IF it was such a bad business then why do so many people seek it out as a profession? Because its not.. Come on guys.. Get over it, you can't have something for nothing...

Why can't you "music pirates" understand why the recording companies got all upset when Napster hit the scene. It made their hard work available for FREE! They invested allot of time and money in engineering and recording the music that you ripped in 5 minutes to MP3 file. What if you invested money to create something and the guy next store to you is making copies and giving it away for free? You would be pissed. Also, remember that not only the RIAA members were upset with the whole idea of Napster, several Independent labels were also upset. Copying music and distributing it for free is no different than copying software and distributing it for free....Its called Pirating.

I love OS/2. Its RPL technology is outstanding. Its the platform that pays my bills (WSEB/WSOD). I looked into e-Commstation and Wise Manager last year after talking to Serenity Systems founder and having me send me a copy of both. e-Commstation is pretty nice software, but (IMHO) I don't see a reason to upgrade to it unless you are running aything prior to 4.5. I do like Wisemanager and I can defaintly see it being a big plus especially in OS/2 networks. It makes managing a WSEB network very easy and it can replace, or complement, an existing WSOD network. I hope Serenity is successfull with their products. I want OS/2 to live a little longer.

Actually, the Recording company is the one who puts up the money to record the artist. One thing you guys seem to forget, or don't know, the Record Company takes a gamble on every artist they record. Only 5% out of all the artist they record actually bring back a return.

One thing I find funny is how much hatred some of you guys have towards the Record Companies. I think its because you guys are ignorant of how its actually works. Think about this. SOmeone comes to you with an idea and wants you to help them make it, market it, and sell it. You invest money into making it, marketing it (TV, Radio, MTV (Videos), etc..), and you set up channels to sell it retail. Now, how would you like to see all that work you did and that money you invest be given away for free? Lest say, someone purchased the idea and spread it around freely on a street corner. You would be upset! The only way I feel an artist should beable to distribute his song is if he does the recording of and its not the recording done by the studios. This is the only way I see it to be fair. Lets face it guys, downloading music produced/recorded by Record companies off the net with out their consent/permission for free is stealing.

A mouse is not what makes things easy, common sense does and Slakeware config files are written with common sense. Jim
