Wow, in one breath he talks about how GPL is bad because it doesn't allow you to keep your changes secret. He also talks about how he will not open source java for fear of forking. Then he says that companies like IBM who help Linux but don't open up all their products are "hypocrits". Wow this guy really needs help from the cluestick.
Sorry your right, been a while sense I've really looked into it. I'm more of a it works for me kinda guy. BTW I do have datacenter experience, kinda scary hu?:)
it would work fine, except that you still have to convert the dc into different DC power voltages for the different devices. Another problem also is single point of failure, if your single AC to DC converter failed everything would go down. And your battery backup infact does not convert AC to DC then back again, it has two seperate paths a direct AC path then another path for AC to DC, yes it does have a DC to AC converter, but that is only used during power failure.
No its not another degress of seperation. The wheels drive an air compressor this is almost identical to the regenative braking that hybrids have except that compressed air is more efficient than batteries. For the rest of its power it is a pure electric car.
As other poster stated this is just a summary paper and not the full proof. Either way he really isn't saying black holes don't exist, he is more saying that they are slightly different than we think of them today. Therefor we shouldn't call them black holes, thus black holes don't exist QED.:P
Depends upon if he has a job or not. If he is just loafing around its pretty hard to command much for your work. If you are busy its another story. I find the I can do it in my free-time or charge you X an hour always leads to pay even for family if they know you don't have much free-time.
Umm ok lets say there are 1 million database "shares" whatever that means. 100,000 or those are open source. 40,000 are MYSQL. so they are shooting for 10X meaning 400,000, this is obviously impossible for them to obtain that many users. But do note he said it makes MYSQL an "option". This means that 40% of database users require the features that MYSQL now has and nothing more. I can believe that.
Yea one time I was pondering the problem of electrical storage in hybrids. Then I thought up the idea of a highend flywheel to store the power. I quickly realized that driving this thing would be another matter entirely. Though possibly if the flywheel had 360 degrees of tilt movement available you could actually assist steering by turning the flywheel. But that would just be sick.
Dred Scott v. Sandford? Plessy v. Fergeson? Ok I'm talking about the modern court, those where very different times. Roe v. Wade? My point was that they had an intelligent legal reason for their decision. You really can't blame them for the backlash. Bush v. Gore? When has the Supreme Court uphead non equal protection for voting standards? Either way read the judges opinion papers on this, its pretty clean as to reasoning, though some may disagree, infact several of the judges did, though personally I found their opinion papers slightly lacking.
Did you ever see that documentary on Twisted Sister and how they had to goto testify about Obsenity in Music and how John Denver was also called. The congress was very very interested in John Denvers opinion because he was such a "great guy" and he went in there and slammed the congress for trying to destroy free speach. It was great.
Woah there boy, the Supreme Court has proven time and time again its ability to make wise decisions. We may not agree with all of them, but if you actually looked at the opinion papers of the Judges you've find they have very valid legal reasons for their decisions. So far the only court cases that have turned against P2P have been fairly bad leaps of logic that have been quickly overturned by higher courts, (Napster non withstanding, though it was centralized and they were just asking for it in my opinion).
You didn't know she was a member of the young republicans while in college? She changed when she married Bill. Most likly for political reasons rather than changes in views.
Doesn't have to be a parent.. maybe you can hire any onlooker.
HEHE the point was for having a license to have a child, not having a license to have sex. This license would be needed if adopting as well. Obviously there is no possible method for pursuing such an idea, as most of the country would have a fit if you forced unqualified parents to give up or abort their children.
Actually DirecTivo fixed this a while back. Software updates are pulled through satalite now. Only thing that comes through the phone line are pay-per view and viewing habit statistics. And no you can't cancel your 5 dollars a month TiVo surcharge, as you will get only the basic 2 day guide that regular DirectTivo gets and season passes will no longer work correctly.
At the end of the day though, the government should decide on what gets the job done with the least amount of money.
No they shouldn't, because from a government perspective money is fairly meaningless, they print it afterall. Of course there are limits to the amount of money a government can spend obviously. But as long as its kept within the country its simply "the people" borrowing and taxing from themselves. Whats really important is how much physical labor is spent obtaining what you need. Directly no physical labor by brazilians are needed to purchase Microsoft because its another country doing the work. But indirectly those dollars have to come from somewhere, most likly labor done by brazilians which are exported out to other countries. So they can continue overworking their poor to send basic goods to other countries to trade for software. Or they can invest in training their own people and using their own peoples talents to develop software for the common good. Sound like communism I guess, but its more of a story of inhousing vs outsourcing. And when you are trading millions of hours of manual labor for a few thousand hours or mental labor, especially when some of the same people can be trained and move from the physical to mental labor division with only expense being training and no pay raise (smart people don't cost the government more, possibly they make them more in taxes infact) its a win-win situation.
But the point of the method is that if you use the same password several places, its possible that one of these places are clear text, which the NSA will find. Or if a password is stored by several different ways (some different bits some different hashes etc) I wonder if you can do some kinda combo attack that finds where the different methods intersect to get the password easier.
Yes, but if there is a medical emergency you can take an emergency landing and reroute passengers at a cost of about half a million or so. Its simply not possible on an orbital flight, and if you have to your scrub the mission your going to be loosing a whole lot more money. Honestly commerical spaceflight companies are going to understand this risk and not take risky fliers. But they will probably appeciate the government backing on this one as it keeps them from being sued by risky passengers who feel they are being descriminated against.
Yes, but I don't collect welfare. Not so much because I have too much pride, but because I firmly believe it would be morally wrong. Not that I would qualify anyways.

Was expecting the song from 2001: Space Odyssey, where is that song you just quoted from. Its new to me.

Yes, but its also a gyroscope. Thus it would resist your turns wouldn't it?

Hu? He went to court and was found guilty. Yes there are appeals going on, but don't say he wasn't proven guilty of anything.

I know your joking, but doesn't slashdot run mysql?

Actually if its a public universtiy, its governed by free-speach and fair trial laws, believe it or not.
The universtiy blocked port 80? A you serious! So did eveyone have to use some sort of proxie to get on the web?

Ahh my new wallpaper! Thanks!
