  2. Re:Different needs on A Universal Power Bus? · · Score: 1

Volts is difference in electrical charge (lowered by a few orders of magnitude) from the positive power connector to negative power connector. So volts is basically how hard the electricity is being push/pulled through.

  3. Re:To clarify on A Universal Power Bus? · · Score: 1

There are plenty of ways to insure commication was correct before transmittal of power happends. Of course yes, the power brick would have to never send the wrong kind of power. I've personally had a few motherboards fry because the power supply box failed.

  4. Re:Voltage on A Universal Power Bus? · · Score: 1

No I think the question was the same, except using cables instead of a pad. Plug this cable into the brick, device communicates its power requirements and it gets sent the correct voltage through the universal power cable. Sounds simple to me! :)

On the otherhand, can anyone explain exactly why Ashcroft was choosen as the defendent? Is there a rule to follow on who exactly to sue when you want to sue the government as a whole.

  8. Re:Energy on Space Elevators: Low Cost Ticket to GEO? · · Score: 1

The counter weight they are referring to is weight outside the geo orbit. This is for holding up the cables. Its been pretty much concluded that the cable itself can't be used to lift climbers. So these guys will pull up a cable then be put out of orbit far enough to hold up the cable they just lifted. Freaky hu?

  9. Energy on Space Elevators: Low Cost Ticket to GEO? · · Score: 3, Insightful

One of the papers on their talks about the high about of energy a climber will require and how the energy should be transmitted by laser (as nanotubes are very good conductors the resistance over that huge distance is just too much). Anyways there is absolutly no talk about conserving energy. As technically if you had a climber at the top, and assuming it used some sort of rollers to climb up and down. The energy generated by the rollers on the way down should be the same energy required to get back up. (Minues electrical resistance and stuff) Is there any way to save this huge about of energy? It seems such a waist to not atleast try.

Hu? This isn't an anti-piracy technology. You should read the original slashdot article about it. There is no anti-piracy technology. There is simply a number that comes with the CD, this number can be used to download unreleased tracks off the internet, and concert ticket discounts/good seats. Its giving something more for the cd, not a technology to mess with fair use at all.

Maybe its just me, but unless the whole point is job retention, I personally like having automatic scripts thst can set everything up to a useable environment. And yes, I do usually then go behind it into the text file and tweek the settings. But there is just something about complex systems with many easily conflicting variables that begs for a UI for initial setup. But then again I still can't get my sendmail working exactly the way it should, though on the otherhand, I'm sure I could take a poll of competent linux sysadmins and fine many who would admit to the same, oh sure they all have it working, but none are quite happy with their config.
