    Yea I heard these stats also (on cnn so probably not a lie.. but you'd never know..)
    there are some interesting graphs of crime rates by age over at the Bureau of Justice Statistics, they show that from 85-93 crime rates of juvinials skyrocketed but sense 93 there has been a steady decline. Interesting stuff really.

    I believe his main point is not that they make alot money, but the amount of money they make off thier artist in comparison to the amount the artist themselves make money. The average artist makes less than 5% of thier record sales this is outragious and a complete abuse of thier power over the artist.

    and the thing about MS-DOS 6.31 being 666 comone give me a break there are so many version of msdos that atleast one had the add up to 666 I'm sure there is a linux version that adds up to 666 if I sat down and decided to compute the numbers.. so what. Now the excel 95 easter egg I've always wanted to try but don't have excel 95 or have seen any since I've heard that rumor.. who knows if its true?? anyone? and then saying that WWW can be changed into VI VI VI is just plain freaken silly gimmie a break will you.. SORRY FOR THE RANT had to do it..

    HMM?? that gives me an idea maby jar-jar is also young and confused, and just needs some growning up. The rest of his race didn't seem to be nearly as annoying. Maby if they do put him in the second movie he might have grown up due to his new experiences in having to survive in intergalatic war. He could eventually grow up to be a interesting and helpful character. For example in the first movie Han Solo was an annoying jerk but by the next movie he had learned to be a pretty good guy.

    Well if someone created an AD that advertised your product in a manor that you felt might get you in problems with certain segments of the population, I believe you would be mad also. This isn't parody or fair use people. Its one thing to say Redhat rules/sucks/isn't as good at Debian

    But its an another thing to use it in a sexual derogitory way. I'm sure they meant it in good humor but redhat is most likly afraid people will assume the ad came from redhat and that thier anger over the ad will come back to redhat.

    I assume you mean pop3 right?? When did smtp become anything more then a send mail transfer protocol.. (and no it doesn't mean sending to your client) SMTP is a protocol for delivery of email to the server specifid in the email address. For example if I sent an email to joeblow@snot.com smtp host would pass the email around (depending upon the hiarchy usually just from your server straight to snot.com) until it got to snot.com then it would stop.. the usefulnes of smtp basically stops once it gets to snot.com and would require a manual (or automatic) forward to a new email address to get it anywhere farther and I doupt yahoo can login into your server and tell it to forward all your mail via SMTP to yahoo.com to do this would physically require yahoo to telnet into your host and figure out the menu's and or operating command line option and forward the email back. POP3 on the other hand is what does what you are talking about. yahoo simply connects to the pop3 port of snot.com (or whatever) and tells it it wan't all the email for joeshmo gives it the password and pop3 says oh ok hi joe.. here is all your email.. IF I'M WRONG PLEASE CORRECT ME cause I could be making a complete fool outta myself but I believe that is how it goes

    I've been wondering this also. I've noticed there are a whole slew of k apps nowadays, are these apps only runnable in the kde environment? And wouldn't that be a bad thing considering the k programs would require someoe to have kde therefor lowering our ability to have choice?

    Hmm quakeIII with SMP support for linux and NT. Looks like one of these two systems due to this fact alone could become the new gaming standard. (assuming rumors of hardware support are true) Guess which one.. I'll give you 2 guesses and the first one doesn't count

    They are only refering to the win9x version of netscape. It comes with Realplayer G2 (which for plm is a multimedia player for viewing many streaming audio/video sites) This player does not exist on the Unix/linux platform though it may soon if there is enough support.

    Don't you mean distributers of text, we can't hurt the artist themselves. I think you should find all the mirrors carrying the ganked editor especially the ones utilizing the text encoding system because they are oviously profiting from your loss

    Have you even tried the new M5 yet.. its quite stable on a decent machine.. (crashes my p75 though.. which runs netscape fine) but works wonderfully in a 166 or higher it looks like they should be comming out with M6 any day now give it a try when you they do.. I think you'll be happily surprised.. (note I'm basing that guess on the fact that in the last couple of days the nightly releases have have next to the date named directory the extention M6 guess its the code they want to release for M6 just cleaing it up)

    Well sorta. When our speed is 10x and storage is 10x we don't want the data itself to be 10x... what a waist of highspeed connection and good storage. But I can bet you we would be using 1:8 compression of mp3 (or a different technology) which litterly sounds EXACTLY its almsot scary. 1:10 or less starts to sound pathedic.. so given our bandwidth (future tense) we would probably ignore it.. But given good compression technology we will us it

    I can see it all now, all music labels under the RIAA are forced to distribute all thier future music in SDMI format. Noone buys SDMI payers/encoders so therefor noone buys any music put out by the major record companies.. By noone of course I mean geeks cause the plbs and teenybopers are gonna buy the music they want no matter what the price of freedom is. But we have effectivly put up a very good campain and almost virtualy distroyed DIVX a technology that without our constant battles the pbls would have bought into in mass. Can we do it again.. and this time maby the RIAA will do down with it!.. Can we only hope.. Though you realise we are going to have to responsibility of replacing the RIAA and supporting the music artist would could be hurt by this action if we arn't careful.

    Now I understand waiting for a month or so to see the movie. I really don't care all about the hype either, and I would have waited had not a friend bought me tickets for opening night.. :)))
    But what I don't get is the need to wait all the way until its out on video where you loose the quality of the THX experience, just so you can "be different" I support being different as much as the next guy, but unless you just so completly don't care about this movie that you feel the special effects would be waisted on you I would see the movie in the theators.. If nothing else than for the special effects. It may just be me, but I have a certain appriciate for the big screen experience, that just can't be duplicated at home

    I saw it, but couldn't quite make it out though basically what they did was they had a friend who worked where this guy went in for an eye exam. So their friend was able to get a copy of the retna/iris scan from the computer at the doctors while it was being scanned. And they created some sorta interface.. I couldn't quite make out what it was quick moving movie that used this information and spit it into the scanner

    Well there are many way one could easly set up a secure connection for sending the password.. Or even create somelike like a public key where its password is your eyescan. That way the server could send you random characters you could then digitally sign those caracters with your scan then send it back where it can be verified with your public key. Or something crazy like that that way both your private key and your retna would have to be stolen to break your security.. The private key could easily be changed if there is a break. And it could be carried around on a smart card.

    Alright maby its just me but form what I can see right now 2.3.X is in development (accually thats what is is infact.. development.. for 2.4) anyhow now that we have raced at an insane pace from 2.2.0 all the way to 2.2.9 what are we going to name the next stable kernel that is based upon the 2.2 kernel and not the development going on in 2.3?? I mean with the way things are progressing I'm sure we're gonna have to have some new changes to 2.2.9 before 2.3 is ready to be called 2.4??
    so what will it be now 2.2.9.1 or 2.2.9-1 ??

    opps . I see its not cgi comptuers.. its cgi scripts.. DUH!! I'm not thinking tonight.. at all I assume ISAPI something similar.?? does anyone out there know what this is.. and why it seems to preform so very well.. or is it just so simple that it can't do anything complex like cgi?

    the accual result on the Pc Magazine website are next to impossible to figure out.. but from what I could tell were
    IIS on Win NT 4.0 ISAPI (what is ISAPI?? anyone know.. a machine I'm guessting??) acheived
    1950 request per second

    Stonghold on Caldera linux 2.0.35 (is that linux kernal version of caldera build version???) on a CGI machine
    slighly less than 500 (its on a graph can't tell)
    whats really funny is that
    IIS on Win NT 4.0 on a CGI handled almost exactly the same amount of request per second.. looks like slightly above 500 for more info check out the graph at

    though I'd ask anyone who has time to check out all the benchmarks sited.. sense this one oviously apears to be seperate machines

    This post getting a score:5 illustrates that some moderator is an extremely biased supporter of war against Yugoslavis. He also believes that everything is fair, including people's right to knowledge and people's right to express.

    Ummm.. no.. a single moderator can only moderate 1 point that means 5 seperate moderators choose to moderate it up while none chose to moderate it back down. This most most likly due to 2 factors. One its an interesting and well thought out comment. Those 2 factors are the only things moderators are susposed to act upon, and I've found that generally this is true. Also the fact that it generated a huge thread gave it props also. Now if this was a few months ago back in the days when you virtually never ever saw a post moderated above 3 I would have complained. But the rules and concepts of moderation have changed... Get with the program.

    Accually.. I don't think so.. I could be MAJORLY wrong but I do believe the kernal is accually linus' baby the GNU thing is because a whole LOT of GNU developmental tools and other stuff is included in every linux based distrubution. Though I could be SERIOULSY wrong.. someone correct me if this is the case

    I agree, but does it make it okay to publish or otherwise make available to foreign nations the blueprints to build a laser to blind spy satellites or distrupt communications satellites? This after all is entitled to similar free speech.

    Very interesting point you have here. I had to spend a while thinking about it. But I believe I would be correct in saying that distribution of such technologies would show mallicious intent to commit treason (hand em high boys).
    While distribution of encryption code, expecially if the rest of the world has just as good of code, shows no mallicious intent to hurt your government other than just to give it a really good rasberry :P
    Also if you were to distribute such technologies most likly unless your just a super genius of amazing magnatude, either you would be working at the University in which there would already be a system in place telling you what you can and cannot do with the information you learned. Its called a Non disclosure agreement ladies and gentlemen.. and nomatter how much we hate them, they don't violate our freedom of speach. Or you are working at some laboritory funded by the government, in which you are going around your employers back and giving out secrets. (once again.. hang em high)

    Why is it that almost every week now I hear new alligations concerning NSI's policies. Why does NSI seem to think they are a completly independent buisness under the same regulations as any other buisness. I mean get real they are a government appointed monopoly, essentially a utility. Being a buisness gives you the right to essentially turn any customer away as long as you have a set legal policy and non descrimitory guidlines for doing so. But this is essentially a utility ladies and gentlemen. They have to follow federal government rules meaning.... The Contitution.. Just wish public schools did this hehe (grins at JonKatz)
