Since it's slashdotted, if you want to check out some other indie games, check out my game Funky Farm. I also have several other great indie games on there you might dig.
Sorry bout that man... gotta stay true to the old school!:) Can you let me know what happened? I'd love to fix the issue. My email can be found here: http://www.sortasoft.com/support.php.
There are lots of independent developers doing just this for PC games. I've recently released my first indie game, and lots of other people are doing great things. You really have the freedom to make games that are fun to play!
The article only discusses the retail games industry. There is an entire independent games industry which is growing at an astounding rate. A big reason for this trend is people becoming frustrated and unsatisfied with the "big guys". Being independent is more risky but much more rewarding, partially financially and definitely artistically. It's great to be able to create whatever games you want to create.
I've recently become an independent developer and I love it. Check out my site, which is also my storefront... www.sortsoft.comThere is a great developer community as well which is very supportive of new developers. I strongly urge anyone who wants to get into game development to go the indie route.
There is definitely a very promising future for indie games, and there are lots of developers and portals which are already doing this and doing very well at it. The market is growing every day.
I've seen this with my own site Sortasoft.com, which has been growing at a very rapid pace. The fact that I can distribute games at almost 0 cost allows for a very high profit margin. It also allows me to distribute games for promotional purposes such as contests, etc. at no cost.
As evidence of this... mod me up and then drop me an email (promo +at+ sortasoft +dot+ com) and I'll give you a free copy of my game Funky Farm. Well see if we can get this shameless plug up to a 5.
I've recently entered into the casual games industry myself. There is definitely a market out there and I love working for myself and creating whatever I feel like creating. I have also found that the developer community is very helpful and willing to share their knowledge. If anyone wants to know more about just ask I'd love to share what i've learned.
My first casual game Funky Farm has been doing better than I could ever have imagined, and I'm close to finishing my 2nd casual game. If you want to check out my site.... www.sortasoft.com
Here's an easier way to play Iron Man backwards: Flip your turntable's cartridge (the part that holds the needle) upside down. Stack a couple rolls of masking tape on the platter (or anything really). Put the record on top of the rolls of tape. Raise the needle up to the bottom of the record. Voila -- your music will play backwards!

You must be confused... we ARE milking them, we're just not getting any methane from them.
