You end up making so much awesome stuff you never knew you had in you in these programs. definitely made my college experience worthwhile. some of mine:
"Is Cyber Monday the biggest online shopping day of the year?
No. Much like the day after Thanksgiving, Cyber Monday is one of the busiest shopping days of the year but is not the biggest. (Last year, according to retailers, the busiest online shopping day was December 12, one of the last days of the holiday season that retailers were offering free standard shipping.) However, many retailers see Cyber Monday as the online equivalent to "Black Friday." It is the kickoff to the online holiday shopping season when retailers offer special promotions to bring customers to the web and introduce them to holiday merchandise.
Was Cyber Monday "made up?"
The term "Cyber Monday" was coined last year by Shop.org, a division of the National Retail Federation. However, the trend of Cyber Monday was initially recognized a number of years ago, when many retailers saw spikes in sales and traffic as consumers went back to work after the Thanksgiving Day holiday. Though Shop.org gave the Monday after Thanksgiving a name, it hardly created the trend."
I guess if you tell people it's a big shopping day, eventually it will be. Fucking mean, though.
Soulseek has done me well on the finding new music department. It's windows chiefly with some kind of broken mac and linux ports, but on the windows side, at least, allows you to browse users files and there's also a section in the userinfo for your favorite artists. Search for your favorite albums and browse the folders and download random crap.
Taste isn't a science, you can't break it down. Just experiment.
Fort Worth's new Modern Art Museum opened up on the 14th, and I'm going to do my darndest to make it over there. The only bad thing I've heard about it: the architecture is so well designed it overshadows the massively awesome collection they have.
www.soulseek.org for the best mp3 search tool i've ever used hands down, and one that happens to be catered to electronic music. Check it out, it's awesome.
The issue I see with this is that in order to detect what key you're on, it has to use a sort of laser-interrupt detection mechanism, and as such, most likely can't detect pressure. As you can see in the video, this means you're required to type in a hunt-and-peck style, since you can't rest your hands on any part of the keyboard. I'd think this would also resutl in lots of fatigure, not being able to let your hands fall down.
might be nice for a palm or cellphone, but we need something more like a paperthin speak and spell keyboard...
Here at the University of Texas they have some massive discounts going on. Office XP can be had for 15 bucks and Windows XP for a mere 5, both from the student store. I guess that's one way to combat piracty: forego profit.
if that doesnt work, it's the "Mr. Plow Owns You" from the media page off of http://xbox.ign.com/reviews/16612.html . Note that the screenshot is exactly the same, including the earnings home has made thus far.
The problem I see with this is that in order to be effective, it must be widely accepted as the de facto standard. A friend of mine on a small-ish network is actually working on an app that, when hooked into by a script-enabled client, allows for encrypted irc over normal protocol servers. Very cool, but could open a whole can of worms of security issues in itself.
Unfortunately, after the focus changed from a remake of prince and the pauper to a buddy flick, Disney had to call Sting and say, "Oh yes, those six songs you wrote, um, we won't be using them...But! Please write two more for us!" Tom Jones did them instead.:) The Sweatbox, Sting's wife's film about him details all this for you, I believe.
Sadly, no, these are not bluetooth devices. The Register reports tat intel has rejected bluetooth technology currently as it's too expensive for their price point. weird.
I have a RADEON VIVO 64meg and love it to death. The image quality is superb, the speed way up there (and should climb after the upcoming driver revamp) and features such as ati's superb tv-out, and some really great video capture (no tv-tuner, but realtime hardware mpeg-1 and mpeg-2 support)have made this one of the greatest boards i've had in my machine. The only thing that's compared in enjoyment featurewise (but lacked speed and bugwise) was my g400 + rainbow runner g-series. Now that was the best of both worlds. mmmmm
A "standard movie" (Assuming you're talking about a VCD) normally takes up at most 1.2 gigs (two CDs worth), so by your math that's 6-7.20 a movie in HD space which, around here, is cheaper than the price of a ticket (even cheaper when you factor in gas to the multiplex:))
But still, yes it takes a while to download, but with broadband increasing all the time, getting the requisite 181 kps to stream a vcd quality film might not be too far off. Just a thought.
(Apologies if you were referring to standard dvd filesizes, if so then you'd be roughly correct, if i recall.)
How does MS plan on not supporting CD-Rs? Don't they read such that they're the same to a laser as a normal CD? I thought CD-RWs were a problem because they require a multiread laser or some such... And why the HELL do they not want to support redbook audio. That boggles my mind. To prevent folks from popping an xbox game in their cd player and listening to the soundtrack? (I assume they mean redbook formatted audio, because I don't think a dvd audio cd with standard cdda would conform to redbook standards) Boggles, Boggles Boggles. I guess if it does WMA in hardware, might be decentish, but whatever. I'm not holding my breath. *Pats his DC and his stack of CD-Rs;)*
I think, am not sure, that WinCE already has some implementation of Direct3D, but as most of the hardware it runs on is relatively low powered (handhelds) it's not taken advantage of or implemented in those low end devices. But I Think that the API itself is present or can be added easily if the developer needs it. Doesn't the dreamcast use WinCE and D3D for some applications?
If memory serves me correctly, I believe that the same company who produces the freezeframe camera setups also worked on the effect in the 'Holiday' GAP ads (www.adcritic.com), the same one seen in the Chemical Brother's video 'Let Forever Be' (a very good vid, check it out if you get a chance) which were both directed by the same person, I think. Just an interesting note on the cool visual effects these folks are putting out.
Just kidding, wasn't aztec, was Ziba Design...much better in my opinion, here's a PC Mag article with a pic of it...droolish http://www.zdnet.com.au/pcm/features/9811/t981111a .html
Aren't these the people that designed the AZTEC prototype for intel? Multicolored, and a lot more aesthetically pleasing, I could see someone wanting one of those around...

Because a PSP is 250, as opposed to laptops which are at least twice that.
Because a PSP is portable, as opposed to desktops which definitely don't fit in your pocket.
Because uh, it's shiny?
Did you really just link to a video in the article text? Is there no regard for how this might effect this person's hosting bill?
At least he's not running apache on a PSP, or we'd all be SOL (and he'd have a melted pile of shiny black plastic).

I had this idea two months ago... PROOF!
Can I sue for prior art or somesuch?
Seems like any new device coming out should be either firewire or usb 2.0. 20GB over USB 1.1 just seems unacceptable.

The GIA has a great set of impressions up that I highly reccomend. Also a crapload of screenshots to peruse, but the impressions are top choice.

This took 30 seconds. Went to xbox.ign.com, looked at simpsons road screenshots, and found
