We actually 'declared' majors in high school in the 80's. You were either 'academic' or 'vo-tech'. The 'techers went to their respective trade schools for certain days of the week. Academics could, to an extent, choose which classes they would take and how far they would go (not everyone got to calculus, for example).
Yahoo maps used to be great, but I like google these days, so haven't gone back to see how Yahoo is anymore. The biggest win for Google's mapping service is the fact that other sites can use their APIs and database (mapmyride.com for example). Yahoo's movie listings are still ok, but if they go down the road they went with yahoo TV, there will be a mass exodus for that service too.
Yahoo is dead (at least to this user) if google ever does TV and Movie listings with the same useful, unobtrusive interface that they use for their other stuff.
Why? Because at the moment my mother will not use a computer, because almost every other action you do you will get a pop-up, asking you to decide on a technical question, with lots of choices. If you are not computer literate, this is a HUGE barrier to start. And what's up with the clicking. Sometimes you right-click, sometimes you left-click, sometimes you have to double click, sometimes you have to hold the button pressed. My mother asked me when you have to double-click and when not. Say, in the start menu, one click will be enough to start an application. But on the desktop, you'll have to double-click.
You are confusing using a computer with using microsoft's horrible UI on a computer. Big difference.
Treat mp3s as advertisement for CDs. Treat CDs as advertisement for live shows. Charge accordingly. Mp3s should really only cost whatever it costs to host them and pay for bandwidth. Why would anybody want something encoded in a manner they might not like, and tagged and indexed likewise? Cds should be like $5 - $10 tops, Better if $3 - $5.
Why would anybody want to pay for low quality stuff? I still don't see why anybody would pay money for mp3s. How about just making CDs and DVDs reasonably priced. If they want to make things available for download, make it free, or just enough to cover bandwidth costs. They might find people buying the real thing more then, with the downloadable material being advertisement. Just a thought. I'd rather pay $5 for a cd than spend all day hoping to find it in flac or iso on a torrent.
We're not talking about actually designing components here, just sticking tab a in slot b. What is the value in 'teaching' that? Maybe there should be a class on putting together ikea furniture taught in school as well?
My BMI is 32. According to that, I'm 'obese'. Overweight, definitely, but obese? Funny how my blood pressure is perfect (maybe a little low), and I can win races on my mountain bike (mountain bike XC races are decidedly stacked against overweight people, as it's quite a bit of climbing).
Health 'insurance' really isn't used for that, though, is it. You don't use your car insurance for routine maintenence, so why should health insurance be different? Shouldn't insurance be used only for cronic illnesses or non-maintenence injuries? In that case wouldn't government programs where the many aid the few be more beneficial to everyone? If you want 'help' with routine maintenence, then pay for supplemental 'insurance' yourself.
I don't agree with everything that was said in Moore's film, but the biggest issue for me is that healthcare is unreasonably expensive, and I believe that is entirely the fault of putting these 'insurance' companies in charge of it all.
Why, oh why does it cost me $75 per visit for 2 minutes of a doctor's time (which he misdiagnoses, so I have to go back several times, paying that fee each time?)
Then there are the drug costs...
I'd much rather take the inflated insurance costs taken out of a paycheck each month myself, and pay for things as needed, but with less costly insurance kicking in should I become ill, require a specialist, or suffer a severe injury requiring surgery.
I don't. I just spent a year working with my dermatologist and infectious disease specialist to get rid of a resistant strain of crap on my skin which culminated in a cellulitis infection. I definitely don't ever want to go through that again.
Yup. Whether it be computer networks or ringtones and joke-a-day to your cell phone. Oh yeah, ringtones. Talk about a business model that preys upon the stupid.
There is nothing wrong with a horny guy but there is something very wrong with a horny guy who wants sexual relations with a kid.
Except...the people these guys chat with online are not kids. Which is sicker? The person who has a fantasy online, or the person who is posing as a real 14yo girl? The easy defense "I was roleplaying".
neighbor's wifi, open proxies, anonymizing proxies, libraries....
But, this is already taken care of.

So what is wrong with that model?
Cool, thanks!
Now for the tv listings....
The comments here pretty much sums up user experience with Yahoo! lately:

You can get a normal 4GB SD card from Transcend. I am using one in my sandisk sansa e140, which is definitely NOT SDHC compatible.

methinks you missed the office space reference.
It's a good thing airplanes aren't designed that way. Solid steel and cement probably doesn't fly so good.

And your 20 years' experience are quite significant vs. the lifetime of the planet.
And often, profanity is the proper way to express oneself. Strong situations require strong words. Sometimes, you just have to say fuck.

Mine is 32. Care to race? Each of my legs is probably bigger around than your waist though, and they ain't fat.

I'm sure some defcon folks are watching those videos too ;-)
I think they should continue. Defcon can take care of itself, and the result is a lot more fun than trying to do anything with lawyers and such.

yeah, but for once they chose the wrong target to try to exploit. Don't try to social engineer the experts, honey. They'll make it hurt :)
Damn. It figures this is the first con I have missed in 5 years.
Not so long ago, it was 'illegal' to split your analog cable inside your own house so that you could have more than 1 tv hooked up too.
