    Polish. It's just lovely. I'll grant you there hasn't been much move toward lots of shiny features, but to be honest that's the reason I prefer Gnome. It does what I need simply and well.

    Yeah that was kinda what I was getting at.

    I suppose there's no real need for that sort of continuity, as long as the continuity for the main characters broadly fits together, and it gives them more room for humour without being penned in by what they did before.

    in a rare (*snigger*) continuity error there were two explanations for global warming not destroying the planet in Futurama. The other being that they drop a huge ice cube in the ocean once a year. /pedantic obsessive fan

    Er.. Open Source is generally based on open standards. It also tends to implement them without proprietary patented extensions.

    Where exactly is OSS not being inter-operable?

    No sorry, the English spoken in England is called 'English'. It is the language of the English.

    Americans speak an American version of English, hence 'American English'. And so on.

    Actually it's true. A fresh Linux install has far better hardware support than a fresh XP install. 99% of drivers for Linux come with the kernel.

    OpenLaszlo isn't really a programming language, it's an interface description language in the same vein as XUL, XAML, and more to the point Flex from Macromedia (which it's very similar to but open source).

    It allows you to design interfaces and hook them up to your server side code quite simply (it can simply read and write XML). Layout is XML, logic is Javascript.

    Completely agree, ZimbraTK is just lovely. And now it's been included in an Apache AJAX incubator project and teaming up with Eclipse.. oh my... :)

    er.. maybe it's a while since you've used it? The mplayer plugin I have can do all those things.. It's a bit flakey with some WMV files admittedly, but even most of those are fine.

    Personally I installed the mplayer firefox plugin and the windows codecs with a few clicks in my package manager and the ad plays fine.

    The difference is that in the process I didn't end up with that horrible Quicktime player, Windows Media Player and Realplayer installed on my system and popping up alert baloons from my system tray...

    Yes, but:

    1. 'We' is not a noun.
    2. You would never play with 'we'
    3. 'We' predates 'wee'.
    4. 'Wii' has the added association with 'wee' of having a double plural after a single consonant, so there is a visual similarity as well.

    Good job at failing to read the GP post..

    Germans will be perfectly capable of pronouncing it, they just wouldn't assume it was pronounced that way if shown the word without hearing the intended pronounciation.

    Do you think Germans are actually physically incapable of prnouncing a w the same way we do?
