The title of dictator originates in pre-imperial Rome. The title dictator was only granted in times of crisis. The dictator was given absolute power but was expected to only stay long enough to handle the crisis. From what I understand, this actually worked, and the dictators were benign.
I've used Limewire. I've had the same problem with every gnutella client I've ever tried. Downloads are rarely successful. Gnutella is a failure as it simply does not work.
I don't think that Gnumeric uses Basic exclusively as it's scripting language, but I could be wrong. I do know that the purpose of this feature is to allow you to import spreadsheets containing Basic macros.
That's a different argument from the one the parent post used. Also, I didn't say that this decision was a good thing. I said that the argument was invalid.
This joke was funny the first time it was made. However, at this point it seems just a little bit unoriginal. Why don't you find some other joke to run into the ground?
There has been a patcheto add devfs support to the nVidia kernel module for a long time (over a year at least). Even if you don't use the patch you can always create the devices in rc.local.
Ideally, coffee should be heated to 170 degrees. Past that it starts to burn. 180 degrees is slightly hotter than is desirable, but not much hotter than any other cup of coffee.
Nethack has Mozilla beat in that respect. The code is a tangled mess of #ifdefs to work around ancient compiler bugs and platform peculiarities. It runs on Windows, DOS, MacOS, OS X, BeOS, OS/2, Atari, Amiga, VMS, and almost any version of Unix.
Ran is based on King Lear. You really can't call any of this stealing because incorporating elements from other works is an integral part of art and literature.
Save the longer, more descriptive extensions for more obscure things.
What more obscure thing is going to use the extension.jpeg2? No one in their right mind would use that extension for anything other than JPEG2000.
I guarantee that if I were given a long list of short alphanumeric strings containing jp2 and jpeg2 I would be able to locate jpeg2 more quickly. Making file extensions more distinctive is of far greater importance than reducing "clutter."
I'm completely in favor of bringing back "thou." You may have noticed various attempts at pluralizing "you." These efforts are pointless as "you" is already plural. "Thou" is the singular form. At some point in the past the speakers of the English language collectively decided to be excessively polite and address everone using the more formal "you." So now we refer to a party with whom we are speaking by means of a plural pronoun, regardless of whether or not more than one person is being addressed.
By the way, a comparison using Google as an ad hoc measure of the popularity of a spelling of a word showed "arctic" to be vastly more common than "artic." "Artic" is little more than a common misspelling of "arctic."
Yeah, I downloaded it after I saw a dozen or so people reccomending it. It works very well under Wine. Though sometimes it crashes if I interact with it too much. But if I just set it to download every file I can find and then minimize it, it works perfectly.
I'll have to send my sister a link to this. I set her up with Morpheus after removing Kazaa (she had installed the other stuff that came with it, in addition to WeatherBug and Comet Cursor and found that her computer was significantly slower than it used to be).
The Pan thing was a joke. In the past the makers of Pan has also claimed that they were being sued by the RIAA for facilitating the distribution of pirated MP3s via Usenet. You really shouldn't trust ANYTHING that you read on their website.
I think Gnutella may be a lost cause. I've been using it since Morpheus stopped using Fasttrack. It seems like only 1 in 10 downloads actually succeed.
The thing with Morpheus being forced to stop using Fasttrack really pissed me off. It was the best file sharing network. I had just gotten Wine to run Morpheus almost flawlessly.

Virgo is Latin for virgin. Actually virgo means unmarried girl. So good news for almost everyone on Slashdot, if you are male then you are not a virgin.

Isn't that more of a Gabe line?

I cannot fucking stand these slippery slope arguments. Come up with a valid argument or just shut up.

One D in Odyssey. Slashdot has been draining my ability to spell.
...and James Joyce's Ulysses is a rip off of The Oddyssey.

It's not just another Napster. It has pirated movies in addition to pirated music.

Dee Dee: "GOOD!"
Or we could all just learn to embrace the absurdity of it all. Lighten up a bit.
