This thing has a vaccum pump attatched to it, I wonder why?
Either way, that would be one part you could omit if this were launched into space. Could anyone familiar with how this thing works tell me if it would run in space?
I got an idea for a simple case mod.

Epia boards are so small, you could fit one INSIDE a monitor. Take that Imac!
Why bother when other standards for backup media will come out that will totally put the previous generations into the obsolencense storage shed.
How long does the magnetic bit last on a hard drive? What's all this stuff on slashdot about "Lab Diamonds" that will be used to create CPU's with insane clock speeds? Instead of DVD how about a Diamond disk of lab grown diamonds?
I've tried getting MythTV working twice in the last year, the first incarnation with RedHat and the 2nd with debian. Despite being able to get web/mail/samba/netatalk and various PHP applications (nuke/forums, ect) I still can't get it to work.
Someone should work on making a MythTV distro or liveCD (not me, cause I can't get it to work) Has anyone started or made such a distro yet? I really want it, as i'm sure many others do.
I've been pretty active on slash for the last week or so after a pretty long break from it. Just as a side OT note, how come we're all posting to/. right now?
The first reply to this article was at 3:00 am, mine's being posted at 4:45 am. Shouldn't we all be in bed or something? I don't care about the moderation of this comment, I got 2 +5's in the last day or so, plenty of karma to burn.
Didn't I say I was pulling my figures out of thin air? RMFC (read my fucking comment) how does me using non-factual (and admitting it) figures equate to my intelligence?
(Btw, just as a side note, if your figures are correct could you back them up with a link? Thanks) Don't be sad about not reading my comment, some of us are slow and have to read things 3 or 4 times before we get them.
Wow. If your numbers are correct, then a HIGHER percentage of Mac users than PC users are playing that game, since Apple has less than 10% of the market
What you just said made absolutely no sense at all. Even if %100 of the mac users buy a game, it's still just %10 market share. Compared with PC's that have %85 market share if %100 of them bought a game it would have a %850 lead over mac sales.
It's very simple, Check the box that applies.
When developing a game do you... [ ]A. Develop for a platform that has the greatest market share, thereby making a lot of money if the game is a best seller and have lots of free press for. [ ]B.Develop for a platform that has a little market share, not make as much and not get as much press because the platform isn't really that popular.
Somewhere in the great slash database there's a comment from John Carmack (yes we all know who he is) stating why Id released most of it's games PC first, then Mac and linux as an afterthought. I'd give you a link, but I tried searching (and judging by how low your UID is, you know how shitty the slash search system can be)
UT2003 was released for all platforms. What were the sales figures for those broken down by platform. Just pulling these figures out of the air but I would guess that.
Windows UT2003 sales accounted for %85 Mac UT2003 was probably around %10 Linux UT2003 was around %5
I'm not trying to bag on the mac (In fact I just rescued a 7600 from the dumpster, installed YDL/bootX on it, with Samba and netatalk, now it's a very nice fileserver for the company that was going to trash it) It's just not the platform you want to go to if you want to sell a lot of games.
Why are you mad at UbiSoft? They're just the publisher, not the actual people doing the work of creating the game right? Like when Myst was originally made, broderbrun was the publisher. It was 2 guys in their garage that actually made the game.
I can't really blame them though... People don't buy macs as "gaming machines" From what i've seen, mac's are primarily used by a few types of users..
Graphic Artists (scrotumshop) Desktop Publishers (Quark) Coders (using codewarrior dev enviroment) Amatuer film makers (can't remember the name of that new apple video editing suite offhand)
Gaming is just not what mac's get used for. For getting serious work done, yes but playtime on the mac is almost non-existant. I don't think it has to do with the mac being harder to code for, as it's more a profitability issue.
Roomate gets a DirectTV dish installed from her cousin (who coincidentally is an authorized dealer) He gives her a smartcard programmer, software, and everything she needs to reprogram her smartcard. Wife, seeing all the channels roomate has decides (against my judgement) that we should drop our cable for the same deal with "All the channels"
About a month later, the reciever goes out. Call too roomates cousin, "Oh they sent out a zap signal that fried your boxes firmware, no problem I can reprogram it" He comes over, takes the reciever apart, hooks up some hokey lookin dongle from his laptop, and after a few keypresses tada! It was working again!
Well, it wasn't just us that got it, my sister and brother in law got one too once they heard about the "free channels"
Too make a long story short, he had gotten about 10 of our friends and family with the smartcard programmer "hook" After a year of being in this contract with DirectTV we've all dumped our dishes and gone back to cable.
Harris told Democracy Now!: "We now know that the machines that they're making that count the votes are not secure from tampering. And add to that, we've got a situation where everything inside the machines is secret, we're not allowed the see how they count the votes. So this is not an acceptable situation."
I know! I checked out the souce code from the h4x0r3d FTP site. In fact, I even recognize the hardware it was written for! (Atari 800) It was written in atari basic. The offending code looks like this.
35 if gwb algore then goto 40 37 goto 45 40 gwb=gwb+(algore-gwb) 45 goto 10
You can tell by the line numbering that this was put in as an afterthought. Ya I bet those bastards didn't think anyone could still decipher archaic line numbers and goto statements of atari basic, BUT IM STILL HERE HAHAHA!
Boat ramps are the first thing that come to mind, but then there are launch fee's ect that would make me not want to use one.
Which leaves only a choice.
Enter/Leave water by shore. This car doesn't look like it has 4wd. So it looks like i'd have to gun it really fast to get over the muddy shoreline. Doesn't solve the problem of getting out of the water either. Another problem is most waterways are fenced in these days.
Dukes of Hazzard Jump. I guess you could try jumping the thing off a bridge, but it seems a little dangerous, again, how are you going to get the thing back onto dry land?
It looks more like a toy for someone that can afford it, instead of a pratical solution for cutting down or avoiding traffic. Reminds me of when my.com CEO was going to get us all some wing in ground effect vehicles to travel from Alviso to Alameda.

Explore that!
What are the TOS for this? Do they own your comments/Blogs?
Sorry to sound lame..

That gives the customer control over everything that comes to their IP address on the ISP side.
I got absolutely no idea how such a beast could be made but it would be nice to stop it on their end rather than flooding mine.
How about a "Ask Maddog" interview where he answers our top modded questions?

Good link.
But who cares.. Computers are like toilet paper to me, I just use whatever's availiable.
I for one welcome our new felis-domesticus overlords.
felis-domesticus, sounds almost like the name of a roman emperor or something.

And I doubt anyone else cares either.
