It's interesting that you say that animals are vegetarians also.

I'm a Canadian in China, teaching ESL. On the campus that I stay at, there are people who sift through the trash to seperate the compostables, recyclables and other junk. I was actually shocked to see this.

It gets even more interesting. As I came out of my own apartment building, I saw the lady sifting through the trash as usual. She picked out a partially eaten apple and some other fruit, and then put it on the ground for the dog to eat. The dog didn't hesitate to eat the food. I was really surprised. I heard of dogs eating vegetarian, but I thought that it was just anecdote.

Yeah, I think that you have it right. A lot of Chinese are waking up to the idea that they could buy domestic brands. I've been shopping here, and I've seen some pretty stylish brands that compete with Nike and others. Nobody seems to go wild over brand names, in this city, so they probably are already thinking of ways to avoid dealing with the US.

Just so that everybody knows, I'm a Canadian, teaching ESL in China.

    Thank you for clarifying.

Here's a disclaimer, though. I'm Canadian. However, I know for a fact that this impacts me indirectly.

Also, in the classic debate about the free market, and whether or not it's okay, this just stinks of hypocrisy. How can we honestly tell somebody who has nothing to get off the dole, while we dish out billions to big business?

That being said, if this is actually just a loan, then it's bad, but not as bad as a free hand out.

Thanks again for clarifying. I really do appreciate it.

Since the word "buy" was used, I didn't think that anything would be paid back.

Assuming I am correct, I have always had a very simple theory I use to wrap my mind around it. Bear in mind I am a high-level programmer, not a quantum physicist. I think that we (humans) exist within the first three dimensions while we travel along the fourth. Hence we are aware of, and can, to some extent, measure the fourth, but it is very difficult to perceive it in any concrete manner.

Actually, you might be too hard on yourself.

    • Imagine a film of a square that moves around the screen and rotates, but maintains its size.
    • Now, take that film, and then cut out the square from each frame. Each cut-out should be exactly the same size and have the exact same shape.
    • So, now, glue the cutouts together the way that you would put 2 pieces of bread together on a sandwhich: flat surfaces touch. Just be sure to glue each cutout in chronilogical order, and in the exact same position as it originally was in the frame.

If you have been following my instructions, and if my instructions were clear, then you should have a twisting tube-like object, that has a square cross section. It is a 3 dimensional object that has length, width and time, but is perceived as length, width and height. When you watch the film on the screen, then you are watching each cross section.

Yeah, it makes sense. I know what you mean. Every single health and safety issue is unique, because each issue has different factors. That's why I don't mind more laws for certain kinds of safety, and less laws for others. I don't mind compromises either. For example, "Okay, no car seats are required, but just drive slower.". The idea is that everything has to be thought through and accounted for.

The reason that I don't like car seats for 9-12 year olds is because those seats tend to be just booster seats, with no measurable improvement in safety, as far as I can tell. Obviously, I'm not an expert, so I have to bite my tongue a little. :^) The only benefit that I can see is that the kids can look out the windows better, which is a good thing.

I assume that you are open to designing better car seats so that child safety seats are not required, right?
