So if no app can compete with their garden, how do you explain the existence of third party apps that compete with iBooks, iTunes (movies, music, tv shows), and Apple Music?

I don't have one, but the idea of a small set top box that can serve as a Plex Server + Client with transcoding capabilities is an attractive option.

That being said for no muss no fuss media box, the Roku can't be beat. It supports every major and minor streaming app, and no one is going to release a streaming service without support for the Roku.

  10. Are there 1000 sites on the Internet that deliver legal streaming video to a wide audience? We can speak hypothetically all day but can you post one video hosting site that has applied to be on Binge-On that was not allowed to be on it?

How many sites that host live streaming video that are not on Binge On could even handle 100-500 video streams at once?

  11. You can already get an unlimited high speed internet plan from T-mobile.

And how does the rest of the Internet benefit from taking away the option from T-mobile customers to not have to pay for unlimited data and still get unlimited video?

  12. So you would rather T-mobile not offer their customers unlimited video and audio streaming to its customers just because a company has to meet certain technical requirements and apply and accept?

Who benefits if T-mobile discontinues Binge-On?

  13. T-mobile is very open about their criteria and there hasn't been a single report of a video or audio service that wanted to be a part of Binge On and couldn't. They don't advertise it, but I believe there is a porn site that is part of Binge On - so there isn't discrimination bAded on content type either.

As I've always said, if you can't argue the opposing view on any contentious topic, you don't understand the topic and shouldn't hold a strong view.

There are plenty of issues on the right (most Obama conspiracies, 6000 year old earth, "creation science") that can't be logically argued. There are also loony left issues (anti-vaxxers, anti-GMO, almost anything they peddle at Whole Foods) that can't be logically argued.

On the other hand, I might not agree with everything that the likes of George Will, Paul Ryan, the National Review, or the WSJ say, but at least their views can be respected.

  16. Re: Bad reporting. on Leaked Docs Provide An Unprecedented Look At Income Of Uber Drivers (buzzfeed.com) · · Score: 1

    That's not how it works.

For a single filer you pay in federal taxes.

10% of your income on the first $9.225
    15% of your income from $9,226 - $37,400
    25% of your income from 37,451 - 90,750

So if you make $60,000 a year, you pay

$925 + 4083 + 5637 in Fed Taxes. You have to take the tax brackets into consideration. You can't just multiple the income by 25%. In the above scenerio, your effective tax rate would be 17.42%

Your marginal tax rate would be 25% on the next dollar earned up to $90,750.

SS taxes are 12.4%. As a W2 employee, you pay half and your company pays half. As a 1099 employee you have to pay the whole thing. Same with Medicare.

Then you don't pay SS at all on income of $118,500

It's not cherry picking. When most people talk about their income. They are talking about income before taxes. Everyone's tax situation is different. But no one pays 25% of every dollar in taxes.

Comparing apples to apples, I wouldn't take income taxes into account. Everyone has to pay those. I would take the 6.2% in SSA and 2.8% that the employer pays if you're not a contractor into account.

Apple has sold music in the AAC format unencrypted since 2008. There is nothing proprietary about AAC. Apple had nothing to do with the creation or licensing of it.

AAC has been supported by every platform for years and it's a required part of Android compatibility and BluRay. Every phone that I've used since 2005 has supported it. Including feature phones from Samsung, BlackBerrys, Windows Phones, etc.
