to add to this, I can't seem to find a way to deauthorize a computer remotely

There's an option in the iTunes Music Store Account settings to deauthorise all the computers you have authorised. I had to do this recently - http://www.apple.com/itunes/features/ says :

Authorize and Deauthorize : Purchases you make from the iTunes Store can be played on up to five computers that you authorize using your iTunes Store account name and password. To authorize or deauthorize a single computer, choose Authorize Computer or Deauthorize Computer from the Store menu. If all 5 authorizations are being used, you can deauthorize all your computers at one time by choosing View My Account from the Store menu and selecting Deauthorize All.

Dude, you are posting on Slashdot. You may not identify yourself as a geek, but you are on a geek website, espousing geeky points of view about FOSS...

Whether you identify yourself as a geek or anything else is probably moot - the point is that you are not one of the sheeple - "I cannot allow myself to be restricted by what others think" isn't something many people can claim.

  15. Simple maths on How Do Geeks Exercise? · · Score: 1

Getting rid of fat all boils down to this : burn more calories than you eat. I've been doing the situps + pushups thing, building some muscle mass helps lose fat, but you need to add some good carb burning exercise. Wii fit is OK for getting fit, you'll have a healthy heart and toned muscles but it will all be hidden under the layer of fat you haven't burned off. You need to break a good sweat to really burn some fat.

Biking to work is good if you can do it, cos it's 10 workouts a week that you can't get lazy and miss :) Otherwise, get an exercise bike and do that at home watching TV or listening to podcasts or whatever. Real bike riding is better though, you can get lazy with a fake bike.

You can also try to cut out carbs and replace them with protein or fibre - sugary fruit, drinks and snacks will get burned off before your body starts on stored fat. Make sure you are still eating healthy though, Atkins diet burns fat quick but it's hard on your whole nutritional intake...

  18. Re:I agree completely on Number of Cellphones Now Equal To Half the Human Species · · Score: 1

Cognitively, talking on a mobile phone is harder work - you've heard the old idea that 80% (or something) of communication is non verbal? This means that facial expression, body language, tone of voice and so on are all important to the full meaning of what someone says. Even if you are focussed on driving, you are getting a lot of cues from talking to the person next to you that you don't get from the person on the mobile, so your brain is having to work harder on the mobile phone conversation to ensure it is getting correct meaning.

Driving stick/manual is probably irrelevant - studies have shown the distraction is from the non-visual communication as noted above, rather than the holding of the phone itself - Register Article here, google will find you plenty more

It'll be interesting to see if people start using it with the Web2.0/Google office apps sort of idea, where most of what you do is in a web browser, with your documents stored on their servers. Makes it a handy small business laptop in that case, can take it wherever cos it's light and presumably durable, has enough space to store your basic odds and ends, and assuming you can get a network connection, all your stuff is on the interwebs somewhere.

So you are losing 14GB for the recovery, OS and a couple of apps; nearly half the space gone before you start saving things.

Boy, that's nearly as bad as a Commodore 64, where fully half the available memory was taken up by the system, leaving you only 32K for apps. Clearly we've learned nothing in twenty years :P
