Oh my gods.
I just turned on TV One - New Zealand's main TV channel, and they have a LOTR backdrop in the news studio.
Paul Holmes, our equivalent of Larry King, is reporting live from the red carpet.
Is it just me, or is New Zealand going a bit over the top here?
I wonder if it's because of our inherent insecurity about being a small and ignorable country. Whenever we get some vaguely worldwide event (America's Cup, Y2K) we go totally over the top. Does anyone not in NZ really care?
Man, you apple whores are unbelieveable!!
Who else would put up with not being able to scroll smoothly through any pages? If it were a PC app there's be a huge uproar about how shite it was.
But no, when it's Apple it's a "Great job" when they repair a fundamental flaw or improve something that was never working optimally in the first place.
Jeeze.
Yup - when I get sick here in New Zealand I book an appointment with my Doctor. I guess I just have to check the certificate on his wall to make sure he is an MD and not a PhD of Physics or something:-)
Back on the subject, so you're saying that airline-related DVT requires you to be predisposed to clotting? Or is it to do with the pressure changes, and therefore the airlines saying that you are just as likely to develop DVT on a long train journey are full of it? Wouldn't put it past them.
IANA Doctor, but although it's primarily an air travel thing, isn't it the case that sitting anywhere for too long can cause blood clots to form in the legs?
Said clots may detach and make their way to the lungs (causing pulmonary embolus) or brain (causing a stroke).
Sounds to me that this dude just suffered an extreme attack of stupidity. If you're gonna LAN for a week (or take a long flight) then at least get off your arse and walk around every few hours.
Yeah I'd have to second that. And if you're in Aussie or NZ, go find yourself a copy of Atomic PC magazine. Dan writes for Atomic, which seems to share his don't-take-yourself-so-seriously style. Refreshing indeed.
IMHO, subscription licensing and.NET (or at least the plan for Hailstorm-integrated.NET apps) are just a couple of things that will mark the end of MS as we know it.
There just seems to be a groundswell of (shock-horror!) FUD against MS. Mom & Pop Win98 user are happy running MS's desktop OS, but let them run banking security? No way!
Don't get me wrong - Bill will find a way (e.g. X-box/consumer eletronics) to still make piles of cash and dominate a market - but I know of more than a couple of hardened MS-heads that are seriously considering alternatives. These are the same guys that swear by Win2k, Active Directory etc..
At risk of being modded down, you've gotta give the guy (Bill) credit. He's always got alternatives - and if not the sheer size of his cashpile will enable him to buy into the Next Big Thing (remember their late internet entry?)
What is also cool about the win for Effects, is the fact that Weta uses Linux for its render farm.
Yeah OK so do lots of other visual effects houses, but Weta won the award ok?
Thankfully they've fixed it up now. There's a disclaimer at the top stating:
On 21 December, ZDNet posted a story reporting the preliminary results of this poll, which showed a large majority of respondents who said they planned to deliver applications via Web services by the end of 2002 favoured Java for the job. At the time, Java outranked.Net by a factor of three in this poll. By early January, the position had reversed; the results are shown here. An investigation indicated that Microsoft employees used vote-rigging to distort the results. The full story can be found here.
With the last couple of things I bought, I had to send an email requesting details for USPS airmail prices.
Just thought it was interesting given all the hype over how the internet is 'shrinking the world', but in reality you find that it is heaps easier to buy/chat/review stuff in your own country.
...to try to buy anything if you don't live in the US!
Perhaps 25% of sites that offer online purchasing are so USA-centric it's crazy. I guess that's part of living in New Zealand, but come on US$35 to ship a paper back book!? I can send one to my sister in NYC for NZ$12 (US$5 ish)
How can you say: "This is already the best racing game for its physics and realism"
when you can't even flip your car over? Where's the realism in that?
I also personally find if I run my car into a wall at 250kph I have a little bit of trouble continuing a race. Realism. phhht.
If Mobog is anything to go on, then this camera is just going to spew out 50% wang-shots, and 50% shots of girls' arses.
Can't Wait.

Hrrrm... it's totally utterly slashdotted for me.
/. readers in NZ to munch the NZ servers?
I'm in Auckland. Does that mean ihug is crap? Or are there seriously enough

How about an 1GB IBM Microdrive? Kinda redundant anyway since Compact Flash is fast approaching the 1GB mark.

Yeah I've had the same feeling for a while

I'm betting he knew it was Whitney, but wanted to make sure that no one would accuse him of being overly familiar with Celine Dion lyrics!
Yeah I know it's ancient, but it's still friggen funny :)

Yeah look some scam artist is trying to sell segways for 100k!!
I can't wait till the millionaires that pays $100k plus for one of these bills Kamen for the dental work after he faceplants!!
Read all the previous posts. Java lacks multiple inheritance (cue discussion as to why multiple inheritance sucks and is unecessary...)
And your grammar is appaling.
Your = possesive pronoun as in "Your bike is red"
You're = abbreviation of "You are" as in
"You're an idiot"
Dick.
Check out the utter bollocks here.
Even just reading that page is enought to realise that it's just quackery!
Yep that's pretty much correct.

Begging to differ...
:)
Grab a Compact Flash expansion pack and an IBM Microdrive and voila - 1Gb hard drive on yo' Ipaq
Too true.
I've always maintained that pr0n and war are the biggest contributors to new technology!
Hey watch it. I resemble that remark thankyou very much!

Viper Racing. Now THAT's a game with some realism. Witness:
- glowing brake discs
- panel damage
- bump someone too hard and your fscked
- nasty oversteer and powerslides - like a real viper
- interestingly perfect 4-wheel-drive behaviour in the touring car
- fantastic physics - high speed 'floating' flips if you lift the front of the car in a crash
'nuff said?--
How can you say:
