No. We believe that discussions in Slashdot are like discussions in real life- you can't change what you say, you only can attempt to clarify by saying more. In other words, you can't delete a comment that you've posted, you only can post a reply to yourself and attempt to clarify what you've said.

An opposing theory says evolution takes place through randomly inherited and not necessarily advantageous changes. Using the giraffe example, there would not be a common neck-lengthening trend; some would develop long necks, while others would develop short ones. I don't know about the rest of you, but I feel like this article doesn't give the slightest bit of explanation of the reasoning behind the theory that was apparently just disproven. Therefore, the whole thing is meaningless to me.
Random thought: If you created a clone of yourself and then killed yourself, would you say that you are still alive (assuming you're still alive to make that consideration:-D)? If no, why wouldn't you say that this configuration of atoms at the other end of the "teleportation" isn't a new and different person in the same way? Even more trippy: from the person you are one instance to the person you are the next, haven't you basically gone from one almost duplicate to another? Do we truly therefore only live for one single "instant" (however long that is)? For a dedicated materialist, I find it very troubling when my thoughts seem to force me to conclude that there's such a thing as a soul.

I have gone to look for myself, if I should return, before I get back, keep me here. Dude, your sig and mine should hook up.
If it was OPENGL then this wouldn't even be an issue. Yeah, I don't get the impression that Spore is using any fancy cutting-edge graphics tricks only supported by Direct3D.
You mean, like a stone smashing into a window? You don't actually think the electrons or atomic nuclei of the stone actually come into contact with the electrons or atomic nuclei of the window, do you? Me? Yes, but I get the feeling I'll look stupid if I say so.....Oops.
Also don't forget that we had the largest single protests in the history of this nation against the war the people had choice on (unless the soldiers refused to fight like international law says they should have, but that's beside the point).
Of-course the humans have to cross, but this can be done with overpasses or tunnels under the streets. We could have it that way today. I suspect there's a reason ($$$) we don't.
I suspect it's simply that Corel's lawyers sent MS a friendly letter threatening a lawsuit for the claim, and MS realized that 1) it's not worth fighting over, and 2) they would look like idiots if they tried to defend their statement, and they don't need that right now. Further, I doubt they framed it as an "apology". That's Slashdot's doing. More likely they just quietly issued a little statement saying they erred in a previous claim.
An anonymous reader brings us this article from Wired about a new method to produce fuel with the help of concentrated sunlight and carbon dioxide. The scientists inventing this method are calling it "tree".
You know, if you think my opinion that articles like this are worthwhile because they spark conversation is wrong, you could just ignore me - or, better yet, the whole article - instead of modding me "overrated". For that matter, why are you even reading the discussion if you don't think it's worthwhile?
I really wish people who don't like certain parts of Slashdot would stop showing up at those parts and bitching instead of just staying away and letting the rest of us enjoy ourselves.
Oh, another amusing thing: One of the main emulator sites is NGEmu.com (you know, Next Gen Emulation). And the "NG" they were referring to when the site started was the PSX.
I think you're missing the point. Articles like this just serve as good jumping-off points for Slashdot discussion, which is what a lot of us are here for.
(I hate prison rape references as a matter of principle, but here's a guy that I really have a hard time mustering up *too* much sympathy for). Me, I don't have a problem with the jokes themselves (other than the homophobia), but what upsets me is the implicit assumption that prison rape is acceptable or "just the way things are", like dying of old age.
the classification of this as a "white-collar" crime But this isn't respectable white collar crime. It's as white collar as the mafia sometimes is, but without the political influence.
Will you delete my comment?

Long story short: Meh?

I wouldn't want to be a citizen of any nation that would elect me as its leader.

I think you're probably a troll (if not flamebaiting), but I still have to ask: What did the lawsuit say you did that was illegal?
