Whoa, slow down there. Nobody wants competition here. They want to manipulate the government into giving them an advantage through preferential legislation. You know, capitalism.

  20. Trust?? on Conservatives' Trust In Science Has Fallen Dramatically Since Mid-1970s · · Score: 5, Insightful

There is no "trust" in science - there is nothing to "believe." Science is just the application of logic and reason to help explain the world around us. So what this article is really saying is that "Conservatives view of the world has dramatically departed reality since 1970." Which sounds pretty plausible to me.

I actually gave a presentation this week that went over very well. Here's what I did:

    • * Started off with a slightly self depreciating joke to lighten the mood.
    • * Used good graphics and animations to keep interest.
    • * Kept my slides uncluttered so people actually read and understood what I put on there.
    • * Used a slow and clear speaking voice so everyone can hear what I was saying.
    • * Tried as much as I could to not show my nerves and I came prepared. Most people don't want to see others stumble and struggle though a bad presentation.
  23. Re:Wait a minute there... on Ford Tests DIY Firmware Updates · · Score: 5, Interesting

It's not a security update. This update is more like a complete rewrite and has very little to do with Microsoft. You see, for their first attempt Ford decided to outsource the project to a company called BSQUARE who put the UI together using Adobe Flash Lite. For some reason, the results were slightly less than stellar.

Anyway, the preliminary reviews of the new version sound promising so I am at least a little hopeful. I am still quite frustrated, however, that I've had to deal with such awful software for well over a year on a brand new vehicle that cost almost $40k.

So what's different about this deal that warranted an article describing something that happens every day here?
