    Take some time to read the inittab (5) man page and you'll learn that you can specify exactly what a Linux system does when it receives a CTRL-ALD-DEL.

    Talk to your VoIP administrator. There should be an option to turn on sidetone and maybe even an option for "comfort noise" so the phone doesn't sound too quiet when no one is speaking.

    As processor's catch up with space heaters, I doubt they'll be as likely to be air cooled.

    P-ATA connectors are keyed. There is a mechanism called "cable select" that essentially auto-configures IDE chains.

    SCSI is a bus, IDE is a bus. Usually busses (as found in PC's) don't make noise or heat.

    There is no reason a cool quiet IDE drive couldn't also be sold with SCSI interface electronics.

    Maybe Linux vendors could spend more time addressing these issues if they didn't have to spend so much of their efforts reverse-engineering MS "protocols" to make Linux attractive in enterprise environments?

    This is like breaking up the Bell sys^H^H^H monopoly, but allowing them to keep the details of how to make connect a telephone under NDA.

    I don't see what the big difference is between paying Blockbuster $4.95 for a limited time rental and purchasing a limited life time disc for about the same $$$... Oh, except I have to return the disc to Blockbuster or face late fees. Why exactly is this so bad?

    Also, imagine a day when you can walk into the Blockbuster and instead of seeing miles and miles of movies taking up valueable space, you can pick out the movie you want from a kiosk, with access to more movies than you could squeeze into acres of Blockbusters, and a DVD-R burns it for ya with the time limited coating... That makes sense to me.

    Wouldn't it be nice if these wireless networks became ubiquitous enough that you could use IP telephony software on a handheld as a replacement for cell phones... No roaming and 1440 anytime minutes / day ; )
