Slashdot uses ads to generate revenue. I agree with you mostly, somthing has to be done, but you have to remember who the enemy is here. Small people who want to have a buisness shouldnt be hurt, they should be enouraged, because they are just as much of a threat to the system as a masked anarchist with a can a spray paint and a crowbar. This is why i have a pirated version of civIII but i buy games from loki. Block ads from msnbc and cnn because they provide biased news, and block ads from aol.com because they charge thier subscribers and then throw ads at them anyway. Dont block ads from plaeces like slashdot. Pirate software from companies that charge $300 for it. Steal music (from the store, not online, the store is more harmful) that was released by major labels. Pay for shareware some guy made in his basement and buy cds from indie bands.
i guess my point here is that there are two sides to defeating IP. One is the hurt the bad guys, the other is to support the good guys. I feel suportin the good guys is the more important of the two.
A BMW is a tangible thing. When one is stolen it is gone. Software can be copied infinatly with no extra cost. Besides, when a BMW is stolen is costs the company nothing, it hurts the owner not them, so of course it makes no sense for them to do that. Did you even think before you postd this or are you trolling?

often when ive tried to explain these sort of things to people, the just dont belive me that it exists. they think i must be misunderstanding it or somthing because there is no way a law like that could ever get passed. i think that says a lot for how riduculous this all is, when normal people think that it is so horrible it could never happen.
i tell them to wait a few months, the rate thigns are goign theyll end up being affected by somthing eventualy (dont mean just dmca, also other new laws that are being passed).
My guess is that a libertarian anarchist is someone who wishes for a peacful society, kinda like communism without government. Anarchy (go read Bakunin[spelling] ) used to imply that, but now people seem to think that its this chaos everyoen kill eachother idea. He proboby added that first word to get the old idea acrosed. A beter phrase might be libertarian socialist (which i got from the alt.anarchy faq).
Ide rather die becouse at least then i dont have to kill my fellow humans for somthing that i do not belive in. My only request being that one of the polititans pull the trigger becouse if they can send our boys off to kill other peoples boys then they damn better be able to have the guts to face the reality of what they have instigated.
A little off topic but i want to share it with all you midless patriots..today i saw a poster somebody made hanging from an overpass. It said "united we stand as one". It was written in red and blue with stars all around it. Maybe its me being silly, but that saying just feels a little communistic to me. Think before you talk.
I agree with you on all parts except one. If our polices are bad, then why should we not admit we are wrong and change them? Sure I feel what they did was wrong becouse people died, but didnt people die in bosnia when we bombed them. There are no definite good guys or bad guys here, everyoene is wrong. The solution is not to fight some war out of revenge, it is to stop more people from dying. If chaning our policy will stop that and the policy was wrong to begin with, then revise the damn thing already!
One of my friends served a year in a so called "detention center". I say so called becouse it just a prision for kids. He got into fights everyday and go the shit kicked out of him. 8 months might not sound like a lot, but dont think thats its easy becouse you have never been there.
We have these all over New York City, except that they average 2-3 dollars an hour. THey are open until like 3 in the morning, so me and my friends often stop by for a game of counterstriek after a night of drinking. Its a great idea, and more fun than I ever had at an arcade.

I think what he was trying to say was that you dont have to go through all the trouble worrying about all the millions of different hardware setups people might have. You write a program and it will work exactly the same on every single computer.
I really fail to see the difference in what the two people are saying. Goldstien mentions a few times that criminals are bad, and Palmer's whole interview is about how criminals are bad. The only difference is the use of the word "hacker" which in my opinion refers to someone who likes to kick knitted balls filled with plastic beads and see how long they can keep them in the air. God, the whole argument about that word is so dumb.
i really dont understand how it would work. i could so see some little 15 year old coming along and messing someones stash up. its a shame people always have to ruin cool things.
