Weight is not the only factor, have you compared the overall design of a running shoe from the 1990's vs current ones? I am not saying this is the only effect, but over the course of a long run everything adds up, including anti fatigue cushioning.....
I have to wonder how much of an effect shoe and sport wear design (wicking fabrics, etc.) have been in the time reduction over the last couple of decades.
So what, just because there is a water shortage in California does not mean there is one everywhere, my local weather forecast calls for nearly 2 inches of rain in the next 4 days alone.
My bigger concern is what do you do if you need emergency medical services for an everyday emergency if the emergency rooms are full of contagious ebola victims? Lets say you break your leg, or have a serious cut, do you stay home and try to manage it on your own, or do you risk the waiting room at the local hospital?
Antenna's are great for breaking news, particularly when it is breaking world news happening in your back yard. My personal example is when a space shuttle happens to break up above where you live and is raining down around you.
True, but Big Bang does a great job of getting it with nerd culture although perhaps in a self deprecating way. Where Scropion just blows it with idiots trying to pretend to be smart. It is the classic problem of the person with an IQ of 135 thinking they are the smartest person in the room, where the person with an IQ of 155 often thinks they are not. The difference being they tend to be in different rooms and different social crowds. It really all comes down to one problem smart people can recognize other smart people, or people that are smarter than themselves, stupid people can only do the second part.
You are correct the problem with our modern hospitals is they would quickly be overwhelmed, my wife was in the local hospital last week inI the ICU ward, we live in a small town of about 10,000 people, the local hospital serves a population of about 25,000 people, and the ICU ward has a total of 8 beds, 3 to 5 of them were occupied when she was there.
It is my experience that it is the believers that mostly try to not do anything to control the climate, they instead concentrate on efforts that will primarily cripple modern civilization.
The catch 22 is in order to be a climate scientest you have to basically sign on to beleiving in AGW, so it is a bit like saying 97% of Catholic preists believe in god.
The myth about the U.S. not having any nuclear weapons after WWII is blown a bit out of proportion, from what records have been released it is true we were out when Fat Man detonated on Aug. 9th 1945, however the best estimates say we had 4 more by September, and around a dozen by the end of the year. This was not so much a matter of being out, but of rushing the first ones off the assembly lines into service right away.
The sad thing is yesterday when driving home from work there was a cop in the other lane next to me texting while driving, the funny part about it was he had a neon blue smart phone cover.
Why do you worry about some yet to be born for a hundred generations person digging a shaft thousands of feet deep and killing themselves when they hit a nuclear waste deposit.
Is it really that easy to imagine a future culture with the tech to drill through thousands of feet or rock or reinforced concrete and not have the ability to detect raditiation, and plug the hole they made?
Why does everyone scream Three Mile Island, the so called worst nuclear accident in US history, and the containment building did its job, radiaiton release was trivial.
This is the sort of thing that Tiger Woods got in some trouble over a while back sometimes identifying he was black and other times asian on forms when he was in school / college (he is half black, half asian).

So now we get people priced out of any insurance coverage at all instead of only having catastrophic only coverage. Don't tell me it does not happen I know a man that had to quit his job of 42 years with a small business this week because his employee contribution for his noth that great health insurance had reached over $900 per month.
Because sooner or later something is going to happen to this little rock that will make it far less perfect, ranging from another rock hitting it to nearby super nova, to more mundane things like and ultra plague that wipes out life as we know it.
Have you ever watched a cam copy of a movie, particulalry a fast paced action movie? They are nearly useless, at best they give you a preview of what to expect from the film (in this case the 5 previous ones from the series should have given you an idea), or let you rewatch a scene you missed when you were in front of the high res real thing the night before. Otherwise the video sucks, is blurry, lacks contrast and the color balance is off, and the sound is like listening to music over a speaker phone.
