Texas v. Johnson (1989) Johnson was charged for inciting a breach of the peace for burning a flag. The 'inciting a breach of the peace' is why I included the quote since sedition is incitement to violence or government overthrow by non-democratic means.
Sedition is not a civil liberty. I'm not saying the site owner should be necessarily arrested or the site shut down....
Umm...yes it is, at least in the US. It may get you noticed, but it is most assuredly a 1st amendment civil right. Congress may try to take it away, but that is why the courts are a check and balance to congress.
The Sedition Act of 1918 was repealed in 1921. Legal experts view the Sedition Act as being antithetical to the letter and spirit of the United States Constitution, specifically the 1st Amendment of the Bill of Rights. Anti-governmental-defamation laws similar to the Sedition Act are still in place in some of the world's most repressive countries, including North Korea and Libya.
-and more recently,
Justice William J. Brennan, Jr. asserted that "if there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea offensive or disagreeable." Many in Congress vilified the decision of the Court. The House unanimously passed a resolution denouncing the Court; the Senate did the same with only three dissents.

yes he pissed some of the hard core fans off but in the end,... it doesn't try to destroy the old show, its taken the best parts and moved it on with the times.
If you've paid attention, the BSG on SciFi isn't a remake of the original, it's a continuation.
Starbuck - You're sick. You're not a person, you're a machine that's enjoying its own pain. Leoben - All this has happened before, and all of it will happen again. Starbuck - Don't quote scripture. You don't have the right to use those words. Leoben - You kneel before idols and ask for guidance and you can't see that your destiny's already been written. Each of us plays a role, each time a different role. The last time, I was the interrogator and you were the prisoner. The players change, the story remains the same. And this time...this time, you're wrong.

*EVERY* religious and political philosophy is filled with paradoxes. Look at the modern American conservative, trying to blend the wildly incompatible phliosophies of Christianity and capitalism.

The CATO institute is a libertarian think tank. Libertarianism falls into the left wing of the traditional classification of politial thought in some ways and right wing in others.
Libertarians are very much on the liberal side of social and civil rights issues, but very conservative on economic and federal government political issues. ie. You should know for a fact that the [3-letter-acronym] is not listening to your phone call, states should have more power than the federal government, and welfare should be the function of charities, not politicians.
Not that I believe in the whole TFH/MCR thing but please use proper scientific procedures when debunking "pseudoscience". Otherwise you will just give them more to be paranoid about.
I personally wouldn't want a representative to follow the will of the people too closely. The masses are fickle and rarely understand the issues the feel strongly about.
Our representitives are pretty fickle and many times vote without even knowing what the bill is for. For example, just this past December the House voted on the fiscal year 2006 Defense Appropriations conference report at approximately four a.m.--just four hours after the report was filed. Yet the report contained language dealing with avian flu, including controversial language regarding immunity liability for vaccine manufacturers, that was added in the House-Senate conference on the bill. What congress needs is for this bill to be passed.
I've had this happen at Sears and at Radio Shack. The managers came and approved the check in both cases after talking with Checkrite. When they run your check through that little reader it seems that the verification company only cares about the account number. It doesn't matter that the name, address, phone number, and bank routing numbers are all different, the account number alone is enough to trigger it.
This has nothing to do with the DMCA or Patriot Act.
This has everything to do with the DMCA. From TFA: However, there are two obstacles:
* The code at 0x7CCCF1 is located in the encrypted code section of the binary.
* The whole code segment of the binary is checked or hashed by Skype. If something has been modified, Skype will detect it and quits.
That little part about the encrypted code section would fall under breaking encryption. The second little part about the binary being checked or hashed would fall under encryption/content controls.
Won't everyone (ie Government entities) complain that Linux is now a haven for terrorists and pedophilles since only a criminal would want to encrypt their [disk|phone call|email|http connection]?

Ah, yes, because everyone today still wants to use a Voodoo 3 card or dot matrix printer, right?
That's exactly right. Why do I need to buy a brand new $600 video card when my old Voodoo3 card works great in my Gentoo box. I've also seen many businesses that still use dot matrix printers to print on tri-copy carbon paper forms.

50,000 pieces of spam to 1,200,000 AOL members?
50000spams / 1200000users = 0.04166667 spams per user
So...how does that work? Is it like getting a spam mail that only scores about a 0.2/5.0 on SpamAssassin?
