    In fact, how many new products (new as in design, tooling and first production) AREN'T sold at a loss? I can't imagine too many large-volume items with a break-even point of 1!

    Yes, I know XBL servers wouldn't fall for it but it wouldn't be the first time a standalone game did something special based on the date.

    TSS was something I looked forward to when I got home, as it was usually starting when I walked in the door.

    In general, I've been pleased with the TechTV / G4 merger, but that might be because my cable provider cut TechTV from my package. I was glad to get anything from TechTV, and any of the crap they culled from G4 wouldn't be missed.

    What I want to know is why the new channel seems intent on dropping its best hosts - Scott Rubin, Ronilynn Reilly, the TSS crew, etc...

    Huh? KI was the first fighter I ever mastered (and pretty much the only, excluding Tekken Tag). I wasn't as crazy about KI2 - fighting seemed a little better but the art direction blew.

    I also wasn't too crazy about KIG, but it's not a bad conversion.

    However, when a housefire displaced my family, we bought a used SNES for cheap thrills - and I grabbed a copy of KI. It's not perfect but I think almost every important move is there, as are the "extra" hit combos Orchid was famous for!

    He didn't fall, he didn't jump, he's simply incinerated in the explosion.

    I'm not so sure...I watched closely when the flier slammed into the rock wall and there's an object flying off to the right that looks vaguely body-like. It might be a stretch, but until I get the DVD, I'm going to assume that's what it was.

    My wife and I saw this for our 10th anniversary and both of us loved it - we both commented on the much-darker tone of the movie. Human, touching, but also action-packed and more "real" than expected.

    Loved it when Mr. Incredible is freed the second time and nearly pops (sorry) What's-Her-Name's neck!

    The light saber in most scenes is a small colored object. VHS does a poor job with the color of small objects.

    I think you've got it backwards. While most of the other scenes benefited from the VHS-to-DVD transition, the lightsabers somehow got worse on the DVD.

    The SE VHS sabers are quite bright and vibrant, unlike the DVD renditions shown.

    I thought that was the whole point of this exercise - that a centrally-available hash master was viable.

    And just out of curiosity, wouldn't the master file be really compressible?

    Sorry buddy, but this tin of Sara Lee says otherwise. All joking aside, why can't I have it both ways?

    I ask again, how does having faith in God preclude science? Yes, i know it's a bit of a "deus ex machina" to say that anything sufficiently complex or ordered is simply the whim of the Creator, but why not? How is it hurting me? I took up a geek's career in comuting because of my love for science and technology. I started reading some of Asimov's nonfiction science when I was 8. And yet I believe I'm in the middle of the most complex SimUniverse running on God's own desktop.

    Explain why this bothers you.

    I spend my whole day being logical and analytical. It's what they pay me well for around here. And I enjoy it. 'S why I'm still talking to you, despite your barbs. But having a cool, calculating mind doesn't precude me from having passions and "irrational" beliefs.

    A truly omnipotent deity could easily create a universe five seconds ago and 1000000000000000 years ago. That's not the point.

    Maybe not the point in your classification system of science-v-$deity, but it's the whole point to me. And that's the way I like it!

    The problem is that you cannot rule out the possibility that there is a God who instead rewards skepticism and punishes blind faith...

    How did I not allow for that possibility? I chose my hand out of many possible choices. i chose what I did based on my prsonal makeup and desires.

    And I didn't mention the cost of faith because it's not all that relevant. Sure I don't bang loose women, get high and cheat on my taxes. But I don't miss those things. I'm happily married with a stable extended family and I don't feel the urge to "go heathen". Does that mean I'm sinless? No, far from it. And yes, my few vices do bother me. But again with the "only human".

    I'll leave Occam's Razor to the other poster, but as for my personal choice?

    As I explained in an eighth-grade Debate class: Choosing a faith (or not) is like playing poker. I have no way to know what the winning hand will be until after the fact. But i do know that choosing nothing gets me nothing, so in choosing something, I chose what I belived was the "best hand".

    Yes, I was raised Christian, but my beliefs then and now are my own. I've never agreed with someone merely because they wore a collar or a title. Yes, I accept the KJV Bible (or its close variations) as authoritative. No, I don't comply fully with the dictates therin: I *am* human, after all. I do what I can!

    think that all "creation scientists" attempt to falsely disguise the Biblical myth of creation as science, only to force their irrational religion upon us. Of course you will disagree, I am sure...

    I'm not bothered by apparent contradictions because I believe they are part of His larger design. Carbon-dating for example. A truly omnipotent deity could easily create fossils in such a way that they appear older than the accepted 6,000 year timeline. Now it's up to faith to decide!

    And no, I'm not disagreeing. I think there are many zealots who take things too far. I'm actually a big fan of science. I see no reason why I can't have both!

    Why does believing that a Supreme Being constructed the Universe and its systems take away from the awesomeness of any part thereof? Supernovas, pulsars, dragonflies - they're all cool no matter how they came to be.

    I choose to believe that God set it up and let it run. Questions of design, evolution, deity are merely tests of faith as well as intellect.

    IIRC, some years ago, Compaq machines came with a "voicemail center" package. The modem answered, and the SW handled calls appropriately, including mailbox selection and passwording.

    How long until someone puts all that in a cheap appliance (say a cordless phone base) so that the base screens calls and only rings the handsets if the caller is authorized? Or do they have that now?

    IANAL, but:

    1. She doesn't own the CDs in question and can't claim Fair Use

    2. She doesn't have permission from the copyright holders to make copies

    Now what *I* want to know is:

    If I own a game (like SSX 3 or DDR) that has a soundtrack, but I don't have the means to rip the tunes myself under Fair Use, how does my downloading the tracks from someone else fit into Fair Use/Copyright/DMCA?

    And yes, I understand the person distributing the tracks to me is almost certainly in violation, even if I do have a clear right to receive...

    Why the hell are third-party people (with either party) being allowed to do anything more substantial then hand out registration forms and encourage people to actually register?

    I don't know about NV, but I recently registered to vote in Florida at Chik-Fil-A. They had a booth going with both parties represented (with signs/banners, not humans). My wife brought me the form and I handed the completed form to the cashier. My wife got to eat the ice-cream brownie they were using to bribe registrants with.

    IANAL (duh), but all Verisign did was redirect on the server side after resolving a non-existant URL, right?

    The spyware kind of redir happens on the client, often through changes to search strings or DLL files such that either the user's chosen site is first wrapped in the spyware/ad server's frames or covered on pop-up crap...

    ...Georgie is so uptight about Han looking like a scoundrel that we now have THREE versions of the Cantina scene, yet LucasArts drops a little Ewok-toasting humor into some of the Battleground ads?

    Does George not imperially seal everything that comes out of his studios? Where's the consistency?

    For the record, I thought the "Shoot" bit was funny and appropriate. And I don't think I'll be rushing to buy the DVD boxset anytime soon... Perhaps I'll spend that money on Battleground!
