Sometimes it's hard to tell from a box / book cover just what's going on inside the video / manga (especially with anime - it can be totally cutesy-looking, but really be a hardcore hentai nightmare inside). A quick flip over of the package tells you that it's "17+", "13+", "7+", etc. It's nice and easy for me to figure out, and I'm sure it's just as easy (and even more relevant) for a concerned parent buying something for their kids.
I've seen the same info about NES and SNES controllers being identical. It was only one site that mentioned a possible issue with the NES controller and power (and the site's from 2002 - I don't know if much has changed with parallel ports since, but it was the only one I've seen mention it). And, when I tried earlier today to directly hook in the NES controller (via some wires from an SNES extention cable), I thought maybe the problem was true.
I've already picked up some diodes to add into the mix, and another trip or two to Radio Shack couldn't hurt (I think).
Also good to know that someone who has done this before thinks it's possible. I really couldn't find any info on mixing the 2 controller types. And thanks for the info on keeping all 4 in at the same time - I'll look more into that as I go along.
I'll continue experimenting, and I'll follow along the instructions leading up to Circuit B in your link. This is my first time playing with any of this stuff, so it really is nothing but experimentation so far. But, it seems easy enough now that I (sort of) understand it.

Ironically, I'm looking into all of this right now. My ideal goal would be to hook 2 SNES controllers (#1 and #2) and 2 NES controllers (#3 and #4) into a single parallel port. That way, it would be almost completely authentic: load up ZSNES and use controllers 1 and 2 (SNES) for input, or load up FCE Ultra and use controllers 3 and 4 (NES) for input.
I used to have a SNES adapter I bought from a guy on the web, but the 2nd controller never worked, so I'm looking into making my own.
I hooked 1 SNES pad directly into the parallel port, and it worked perfectly - no soldering, no diodes, no nothing.
I tried the same with the NES, though, and had no luck. I've read about problems with the controllers not getting enough power.
After much Googling, I have no idea what could help (except for either using the Gameport for power or a bettery pack).

The SNES controller is by far one of the best controllers ever. And, with a parallel port adapter, it makes emulation a truly wonderful thing (and as accurate and realistic as possible, really). I originally considered a Playstation controller and adapter, but I just don't like the PSX controller. It doesn't feel the same. I also still don't know which button is O, or X, or Triangle, or whatever.
The SNES pad, though, can do a majority of Nintendo system emulation (which happens to be my personal favorite, if you couldn't tell). The NES, SNES, GameBoy, and GameBoy Advance all have similar layouts with their controllers, and all of the buttons on the SNES pad can be laid out in emulators for all of the above systems, and it works near perfectly in all of them. It definitely works with the Atari 2600, too, via Stella. It also works for the Sega Genesis, but it's a little bit clunky for games that need all 6 buttons. For 3 button games, though, it's a piece of cake.
It unfortunately can't do much in the way of Playstation emulating, though I haven't tried it yet. I just know it's 2 buttons short (L2 and R2), as well as the 2 control sticks. Same goes for Nintendo 64 (damn that controller).

I don't believe the RIAA have proven yet that sharing music files is truly "illegal". Such a great court case could have been in the making here, yet the family was completely scared into handing over $2000 (which I highly doubt was even the price of the music in "CD-form").

Lastly, remember picture-disc shaped LP's? They never caught on. It's seems that abnormally shaped media is viewed by the public as a novelty and soon rejected.
I'm quite alright that they're just a novelty. In fact, I own 2 of them (3 if you count the "flexi" 7") and am proud to say they still impress my friends.
Actually, to stop any problems with copy-and-paste, you can go into Mozilla's Preferences, Advanced, Mouse Gestures, and change the default mouse button to the right mouse button (or middle / wheel, but I'm without one of those here at work). Since I've switched buttons, I've had no problems at all, even with right clicking for any reason.

Yes, $40 is a little too pricy for me, but eBay has a ton of them for as low as $5. I just have to double check and see if it'll hook up correctly (I believe the adapter is a male - I can't remember now though). On top of that, it would get me 6 extra feet of controller wire length, which is a definite good thing.
Nothing beats playing NES / SNES / GB games with an SNES pad. It's worked very smoothly in both Linux and Windows.
I've tried using a Sidewinder and another gamepad before (I forget which), and neither was even close to working and feeling as nicely as the SNES pad.
For some time now, I've been very interested in the Shuttle line of PCs, and if they'd just come out with an AMD version of the SS51, I'd most likely buy it (I know, it should happen as it has with the others, so I'll wait).
My problem is I'd like to use it as an HTPC component. Right now though, it's just going to be just for (legal) emulation purposes. Every time I've gotten to the point of almost buying one, I've stopped because there's no parallel port, and I need one to plug my SNES pad into.
The AGP port is a definite plus this time around, but there's still no parallel port. However, there's still the PCI slot, so what I'm wondering is has anyone used one of the PCI parallel port cards (and gotten it to work under Linux), and how well did it work?

The rest of the series is really just there for character development, and to go into storylines about everyone besides Spike. They are in NO way bad episodes at all (there is no such thing when talking about CowBe). It just offers the ability to not know much about the storyline, but still be able to watch an episode at random and get into it and like it, with a possibly minor explanataion of who the characters are.
However, the character development that does take place through all 26 episodes was so strong, and I ended up liking them so much (to the point where I felt emotionally attached to them), that by the time the series was over, I was completely sad and heartbroken that it was done, and I wanted more.
This whole thing is making me want to watch the entire series over again. THAT'S how good the show is - it can make me want to go back and watch another 9 or so hours of it all over again, and feel like the first time I've seen it.
I think we'll spend a weekend watching it sometime soon:D
That's correct, from what I've heard. I can't remember where, but I remember reading that the movie takes place between DVD's 5 and 6, which would in fact be eps 22 and 23.
Very awesome movie from the fansub that I've seen, though honestly I haven't checked out the dub of the series at all. It doesn't matter though, because I MUST go see this - thank god I live in New York:D

Although this thing looks freakin HUGE, it actually seems like a pretty good idea, and shouldn't be too bad - I've actually found the GameCube controller to be my favorite and most comfy to hold (just knocking the Dreamcast controller out of my top spot).

However, I know other friends will be around most likely, and I'll end up running around and not get a chance to just sit on my ass all day. And, on top of that, the U.S. Postal Service probly won't get my Gamecube to me until Weds. Oh well. Maybe I'll get to see a little bit of the Honeymooners marathon that'll be on tomorrow. That was a rumor, and that's all it is - I just got a DC yesterday for Christmas that was bought a couple of weeks ago, and it read the Utopia Boot Disk that I had burned 3 minutes earlier just fine. Sega was supposedly going to fix the CD-R problems, but they didn't. Don't worry about it!
