Read the links posted up a level. Monsanto went after the guy because he intentionally planted the seeds. 95% of his fields had those plants. It ws no accident.

Besides, what you're talking about is impossible, since most genetically engineered plants are sterile so that this *won't* happen. You *must* buy new seeds every year.

    Get it now?

There are thousands of other breeds of corn out there. Farmers can choose to grow whatever they want. Hell, they can even use corn found in the wild. The difference is that their crops won't grow as large, as fast, and won't be as disease and pest resistant as the genetically engineered ones.

Cross platform is irrelevant when you have 95% of the market. That's like saying that a business isn't viable unless it gets 100% of potential customers. That's ridiculous. Ever notice that there isn't just one gas station in a city? How about restaurants?

Hell, I own my own retail store, and I get about 60% of all potential customers in my area, and that's more than enough. Why would I bother watering down my product line to pull in everybody else? It'd ruin my business. One size doesn't fit all in ANY product.

Non-commercial developers? What does that have to do with anything? I write apps all the time for myself using IE. What's your point? There aren't any restrictions if you write a shrink-wrapped app that grabs a few IE objects. You don't have to license IE. You just specify that IE is required to be able to use your product. And with a nearly 100% saturation on the Windows platforms, which have a 95% desktop saturation, that's not a problem.

Well, you'd be right, except that IE-based apps have been around for several years now. I'm using Quickbooks Pro 2002 right now which is heavily based on IE. I don't think that Open Source had anything to do with it. If anything, people are so used to using IE in third party apps, that somebody decided to try to do it with Mozilla.

IE's already there. IE has been there for several years. Hell, I use IE components daily.

IE's already in place, and it works very, very well, and the components are well documented. I'm seeing *many* shrinkwrap programs coming out now that DO use IE as a framework. Quickbooks Pro 2002, for example, is built on IE.

Actually, I'm thinking about PayPal. Either way, it's a moot point now. It already came and went. EBay/PayPal won. It was ruled that they're not technically a "bank", and so they don't need to be regulated.

Essentially, when you put money into EBay/PayPal, you're taking a gamble that you're gonna get it back. No FDIC insurance there. Hell, not even any regulations that say that they have to keep xx% of cash on hand. If there were a run on PayPal/EBay (ie: a lot of people withdrawing cash), I seriously doubt they'd be able to handle it. In fact, that's a good idea...

Somebody needs to organize a day when as many as people withdraw cash from PayPal. When they bottom out, that'll get the Fed's attention.

I gave up on HP for this reason long ago. A W95 driver all that different from, say, a NT 3.51 or NT 4.0 driver, but they still couldn't take the time to make 'em. I say fuck 'em. I can't take the time to even consider HP any more.

I needed a multi-function for my store a few months ago, and I got a Brother. Cheaper, better, and it's got ALL of the drivers I need. HP has *always* sucked.

Ok, you obviously didn't read the articles, either. The agreement was for NEW computers to be able to come with different default programs. The Service Patch isn't going to remove IE completely, and install Netscape for you!
