"Damn it! Why is it that every time I come back from the bathroom, my computer is off?"
"Bob, I noticed your computer had crashed. The screen was all white, so I turned it off for ya'. You may want to get those IT dorks to take a look at it."
15 times? Now, Stoner denial actually does happen (or so I'm told). But it doesn't take 15 times (or so I'm told). It's actually just a few times (or so I'm told). Jesus, if it were 15, nobody would ever become a regular smoker, and who do you think told me all of this shit?:)
"Why in the hell is my computer always turned off when I get back from taking a leak?"
"I don't know, Bob. I had to look at it for something, it was off, and I tried to turn it on, but all that happened was that "power" light turned off."
Absolutely right. And I think most people do this (including myself). The trick is when downloading is to look for the versions that are shared by the largest group of people. And of course, after you download, delete the bogus ones ASAP.
You would charge it at home, overnight... I drive about 60 miles/day. Where's the problem?
The problem is that I drive a hell of a lot more than 60 miles a day.
Perhaps you could drive more safely?
Actually, slow drivers such as yourself are the ones that cause more accidents than speeders.
That's right, we all like big cars. We wouldn't be hated by half the world if we weren't selfish, "me me me, fuck you" American$. Just remember you're paying for the next terrorist hit at the pump when you gas up your SUV (Shithole lUser Vehicle).
I like my hybrid, but I'd love to have an electric. But, most of our power out here is coal and nuclear power generated, neither are technologies I want to support. I'll take an average 68MPG until I move nearer a hydro-plant...
You're a fucking self-righteous cock, you know that? The terrorism bullshit had nothing to with oil, you fascist prick. This country also happens to be about choice. You can drive your little golf cart, and I'll drive my HumVee.
How about this.... sounds like you're SERIOUSLY pussy-whipped here. Grow a pair, and tell that bitch to A. hurry up and do her little school thing faster than 4 years or B. Tell her to get a job, because 4 years isn't full-time.
She's leeching off you. You'd beter stop this shit now.
Is that a private university (ie: lots of kids with plenty of their parents' money burning holes in their pockets?). Just curious. I don't know of any "normal" people who can afford the luxury of a Mac. And with W2K as solid as it is now, that's all it is: a luxury.
I have *never* seen *anyone* using a Mac in the past 5 years. Never. Well no, I take that back... I saw some at the local Apple store. I'm just wondering where these hip, trendy people are. Are ALL of the "hip" people in San Francisco?
Oh please... people setting their browser identity? Do you honestly think that accounts for more than, say, 0.1% of the entire population? Hell, it might be even less than that.
Most people don't have broadband. Most people don't have webcams. Put those two together, and the number of people with broadband AND a webcam has got to be in the low 0.1%'s (or lower) of the US population. On top of that, it's just too damn complicated. Anything more complicated than a cell phone won't fly (we've already seen PDA's, and web surfing on cell phones flop).
You're so wrong, it's amazing. The reason you have to deal with only two LECs is the government, not business. It's government regulations that limit the number of local carriers in any one area. If phone service was "standard business" as you'd say, you'd have better, cheaper service than you do now, because you'd have true competition. As is, you have gov't regulations keeping those two in place, so they have no reason to do a good job.
But just don't downplay the humanity element. Because it is important.
But like the original poster said, it's only important if the consumer thinks its important. With something like basic retail, supply and demand is still the determining factor (ie: not much gov't influence). People will buy what they want, where they want. More than likely, a different type of person lives in the woods of New Hampshire than in a large city. Thus, those people are going to demand different things.
How is a $0.75 fee per decoder gonna impact MP3 players, exactly? Do you think that *anybody, manufacturer or buyer, is gonna notice $0.75 in a several hundred dollar product? Come on.
Pig heart valves. They've been put in human hearts for years when human heart valves have been destroyed by disease. My grandmother had several pig valves put in many years ago. Nothing new here.
I love it. My station is a bizarre mix of industrial, trance, 80's, blues, and classical. And, even better, you can set "moods". If I'm in a, say upbeat mood, I can say, emphasize stuff like Beethoven's 9th, and de-empahsize, say, the Baroque period and Bauhaus. All in all, I gotta say Launch rocks. Thank god Yahoo didn't screw it up when they bought it!
I don't know about you, but the pants I wear have these things called "pockets". They're designed for holding small items such as wallets, keys, and telephones.
Is there a particular reason that *every* geek (including this guy) has to have a goatee, and most of them are overweight? Do all geeks want to look like clones of each other? Do they want everybody to know they're geeks? I can easily pick out geeks in public... overweight, goatees, no clothes style, and usually a phone worn externally. Also, it's got to be really hard to get laid looking like that.
Last I checked, W2K can be bought with a one time licensing fee. IF this group has already paid for the copies, then why throw all of that away? Too much free time? For the hell of it? On the other hand, maybe they don't own the licenses...
It can't simply be that there's a smaller userbase, because there are LOTS of people who use Macs
So, which is it... is there a smaller userbase, or do "LOTS of people" use Macs? Last I checked "a smaller user base" != "LOTS of people"
OK...
"Damn it! Why is it that every time I come back from the bathroom, my computer is off?"
"Bob, I noticed your computer had crashed. The screen was all white, so I turned it off for ya'. You may want to get those IT dorks to take a look at it."
Still... brilliant.

Yeah. Brilliant idea.

"Unix" is a full-featured word processor? Funny, I thought it was an OS.
You must be listening to vinyl and mistaking it for MP3s.
No, I'm not an audiophile. I can't tell any difference.
Then how did Microsoft Word get to be a standard?
You know of a better full featured word processor?
standard Pronunciation Key (stndrd)
n.
Something, such as a practice or a product, that is widely recognized or employed, especially because of its excellence.
MP3's are a standard. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Typo. You can make your own station.

They've got a shitload of stations, and on top of that, you can make their own.

How do we know they made money? The article said nothing about profits, and it's not a publically treaded company.
