Actually read this http://thisismynext.com/2011/09/20/windows-8-metro-apps-windows-store-distribution/ "All roads, says Microsoft, lead to the Windows Store. That’s the message coming from the company’s newly posted Windows 8 Developer Preview primer doc, which specifically points out that Microsoft’s new app store will be the exclusive source for finding and installing Metro-style applications. The only exceptions allowed will be for developers and enterprise users, who’ll be able to side-load (i.e. download and install independently of the Windows Store) their Metro software of choice without restriction" and "The above restriction does not apply to so-called desktop apps on Windows 8"
Humm.... I have always liked the idea but a flat tax will never work, there has been a movement here for years to go flat tax (before the internet stuff) but it never takes hold. No one would want it because the different states will claim they are not getting a fair share since something sales for 10$ in say Vermont and that same thing will go for 20$ in New York and the amount of people per state and so on. And putting it in a one account and splitting it 50+ ways will not work. Yes 50+ since we got the District of Columbia and all those US territories we have that never want to be states. At least that's my take on it.
Just for a second I thought they were protecting the links not protecting the user from clicking on the link. I have to remember to always read though the article.
Well the summary says "carry" but not how. So lets see there are only two places I can guess at by looking at the video. One would be in the center where the weights (in the video are) are locked down so it would be more like a Trojan horse having it in the belly and the payload would be quite small. Also the linked article says "using GPS navigation and computer vision to follow soldiers while carrying their gear over any kind of terrain." I'm thinking tents, extra ammo, that type of stuff that will not fit in such a small space. So if it's not IN the belly and it can not be underneath because of how the video shows anything under it's belly would be crushed when rolling onto it's feet that means it would be on top. Just like a donkey or camel. Or is this just a small scaled down version for testing and they have a bigger one with more options on where things can go. I could see some rack mounted machine guns or other type weapons on it and if able to add the ability to stand on it's hind legs or something like that to make high ground for shooting from but that would take away any thing the soldiers would use directly other then it being a more flexable gun. I would like to know your suggestions on where you think the cargo will go.
Yes I know in the video it shows it getting back on it's feet I meant out in the field after it has been fully loaded and being top heavy, since it looks like the weights are on the side of it to simulate it carrying a load keeping the center of gravity low on it where I figure the packages would be on top making it a bit more top heavy. Although I guess if need be they could unpack, get it on it's feet and then repack it.
if this takes off would they limited the unlimited. I can just see it now "You have unlimited txting, yes sir. You have unlimited up to 5,000 txts, yep. You are really unlimited because you see people really don't text that much a month and if you go over your 5,000 unlimited txts then it's only 10$ more a month for every 1,000 more. Yes sir on this plan unlimited txting is better than ever."
With all the software out there to help you find lost phones, is it really lost? You figure they would have software to track it all down, especially since it's a prototype. Or don't prototypes have subscriptions to MobileMe for testing? http://www.wikihow.com/Find-a-Lost-iPhone On second thought maybe it is not working fully since it is a prototype. Then again if most of it is working. Humm... I have to continue to think on this one. Although if the person who picks it up keeps the phone off then sure it is lost. It's just funny no other phone maker has had lost phones, and capitalized on it being missing, that I know of. Makes you wonder about testing practices and marketing ploys.
I agree with you. When people are not allowed to cuss to words that other people find objectionable they start making up words. Just look at how "Frack" is so nicely used now since a TV show started using that instead of what we know it to mean. Also I remember how this one person kept saying "oh Fudge" when they made a mistake. So I think having these Lists only cause more fragmentation of the language in the long run since people will always make up words to get around the "word police".
Interesting.
to quote: "To gather data on so many networks, the researchers released their testing tool, NetPiculet, on the Android app marketplace." You would figure they would have used Microsoft Phones also.
Soon? Their website says it is in homes already. http://www.flingo.org/developers.html "Flingo connects with any TV that runs a Flingo-enabled application. It's already in millions of living rooms!"
Here is the section that talks about how it works."Flingo-enabled devices such as connected TVs and blu-ray players announce to flingo.tv by sending an HTTP request. A Flingo-enabled web site later discovers Flingo-enabled devices by sending an HTTP request to flingo.tv using cross-site scripting. flingo.tv then returns a list of all Flingo-enabled devices sitting behind the same public IP as the browser."
The strange on is that the website can control the TV. So I can see TV stations of the future hijacking what I'm watching. Say I'm watching something and my wife is surfing the web. She goes to a website about dogs, my show on how to BBQ automatically switches over to a dog show now. Talk about problems.
Quote "So far we have discussed using Flingo to tell a TV to play or queue a video. However, Flingo can be used to communicate arbitrary messages so long as the Flingo-enabled application in the receiving device is written to understand them. As such Flingo can be used to remote control TV applications, manage the user's queue, or do whatever interesting thing someone in the Flingo community can imagine."
Things are going to be quite interesting in the future. They will know my age, gender, race, family members, shows I watch and how many times, did I fast forward, rewind, etc, tie that into the neighborhood stats (age area, avg income level, etc) and then tie that into any other print or subscription services, like gym memberships, reward programs that I belong to, etc. Then tie that into products that I purchased around the time an advertisement was played at me and tada! they know me better than I know my self.
Just wondering. Can BART remove the cell phone repeaters in the future? OR are they now forever going to have to have that service available?
And a second thought is. Or what about if they did something where you had to pay for the cell phone repeater service? That would be interesting. Some way that the repeaters only allowed certain numbers that prepaid for the service or some kind of NFC phone hook up that can talk to the cell repeaters to allow a specific phone to work. Think of the extra cash that could come in.
anyone notice that Google is paying TAU % over the stock price 6.283185307179586 http://www.mercurynews.com/top-stories/ci_18684398 hwere it says "Google said it will pay $40 a share in cash for Motorola Mobility's stock, a premium 63 percent higher than the stock's closing value on Friday. Shares in Motorola Mobility were climbing on Monday"
I bet any of the spaceships they build will be black.
Zaphod Beeblebrox: It's the weird colour scheme that freaks me. Every time you try to operate one of these weird black controls, which are labeled in black on a black background, a small black light lights up black to let you know you've done it. Hey, what is this, some kind of galactic hyper-hearse?
Well good for him

Did we learn nothing from Battlestar Galactica reboot?
Now what do I have to stop doing to fix this?

I'd like to see how it gets back up on it's feet once it falls over.
Break out the Kosinski scale!
I was waiting for the self driving Google cars to come out so I can just be a passenger again. http://www.smartplanet.com/blog/thinking-tech/googles-self-driving-car/5445

I wonder if Apple will get the usual 30% cut of anything that gets sold with the help of an iPhone.

That's a really good probing question!
I knew I wasn't from around here.

I'm sorry I missed the first posts, I was on the phone.
opps where's edit. Should have said Google has a tau in it.

Exactly. As it has been pointed out Android has a patent fee. http://www.businessinsider.com/steve-ballmer-android-isnt-free-it-has-a-patent-fee-2010-10 And more recently http://www.forbes.com/sites/briancaulfield/2011/08/09/in-major-win-for-apple-galaxy-tab-10-1-banned-in-europe/ Now that Android has proven it's self and has a strong foot hold expect more and more companies trying to get some money off of it.
