I'm sure somebody on slashdot knows how to hack a 56k modem... the "govenor" is what's the problem... it keeps you from connecting at broad band speeds... I'm sure somebody in this infinitly deep pool of it resources knows how to do this... is it just on the modem side?...or is is slowed to 56k at server side as well?
All I can say is good... OS 9 is fast... and that's about it. It's like gambling is the best way to put it. When it's working, it's solid computing, but when one little thing goes wrong, everything then goes wrong... I'll take minus alittle speed for stabilty anyday.
I totally agree about cocoa... I need true SMP support for my DP533... and OS X makes such a nice game development rig now that you can run photoshop full speed with OS 9 and all your development on ported unix apps.
The unemployment rate is calculated by taking the percentage of people who are laid off and are currently looking for a job. That is the "economists employment rate calculation". It's what everybody sees on the news in America and says: Wow, we're great! It does not take into effect the population that is unemployed and is not looking for a job. And since it is at best a statistical sample of the population, it's still going to be off by some +/-tolerance.
Overclocking is the halmark to owning a pc... but my friend tells me about chip designing... he says that if you own a p3 1000 it was probably made in the same batch of processors that some came out 933, 1100... and so they just round off the numbers and sell them to the most close mean... (933+/- 10mhz... and so on...) So what I gather from that is that it's not always good to overclock because you might already be pushing it with it's labeled clock speed.
All of these ideas depend on variables such as: Your "point of veiw"... so on an so forth... Most people feel that most bank database programmers ARE NOT artists in what they do... (the job title would imply so... duh...) But then again, these peolpe tend to be self-involved dicks, who would be offended if you did not suggest that they *are*, in such a debate... Please... If you are an Artist, who is good, and aim to produce Art (what is art is an entirely different subject...) and DO produce Art, then all the more you are an Artist.
Web deesign is alot like psychology... science peolpe find it hard to accept as a true science, because of it's nature, and the same can be said with web design. You are going to bump gulies with code one day... if you want to produce good web design, that is.. stay ahead of the trend of designers and attract attention. So there is a blurred line, or can be.
Just kidding, but I would like to start off by saying these have been probably the cleanest postings, with real comments that I've seen in a while. That's great.
Secondly, this processor is confusing as hell. And I really think there needs to be an organization brought about that it's objective is to assign real ratings for new chips to produce some kind of true measuring stick to judge preformance. And maybe the first thing they should ask is can you really judge preformance to begin with? What is the market? Is there a target app? Is it just for servers?
And this 32bit emulation thing... this is got to be the same people who worry about how fast virtual pc runs on there iMac... who cares? When its out, everything good for it will be 64bit anyway.
