Sudo vs. Root

My box has ssh enabled, but it is only my box and I have not granted anyone access to it. My admin account has access via ssh but ssh is configured not to allow root logins. Also, the root account is disabled for the large majority of the time.
Even though I feel that this should be sufficent it troubles me that the sudo feature is enabled as the article implies by default. I think it makes much more sense that you need the root password for su and sudo access. I think that possibly adds another layer of security to the system.
We've had blades with Cell cpus on them for quite a while. They're a lot different than any other architecture... resembling the pSeries layout more-so than others. One thing I don't like about the prototypes is that the Cell cpu's along with the bga memory they use are fused directly to the logic board. They're were a few pictures released to the public about a year ago on the Register but I can not find them now. Other than that they are seriously fast and very clusterable.
As noted with other posters the problem in not really IE but that if you design it ni mind for IE... or deisgn it in mind for FireFox you get mixexd results on other browsers... I'm guessing this is from an incorrectly following the standard, a poorly written standard or poorly implemented code. Maybe all 3.
I would agree that it would be foolish if I had not found viruses in the smb shares that the box serves out. It's on a netowrk with other windows boxes so to say you don't need a virus scanner in that situation is incorrect. In fact that's on of hte main reason or clamAV.... which is what I use to find the *windows* viruses on my Max shares... stil prpogating even though not affecting the host computer.
I have spyware detection programs, snort, firewall, litte snitch (network traffic filter), virus scanner make regular back ups.... etc. It's foolish to even step on to a computer... any and assume that you are safe. My personal opinion is those who keep blindly procaiming that Mac OS X is a security haven should be held accountable for their words.
Microsoft is the king of bullsh!t backdoored software... why? Look at who they sell their main products to: Clueless general populous. It will always have backdoors so msft programs can feel special in their not so special programming skillz.
That's Linux on the server... in this case a supercomputer. While I'll agree that Linux is not completely nailed down as much as say IRIX, AIX or Solaris, it would be silly to say that Linux could not fill in the server cracks in between. Workstations go w/o saying.
"You can catch hackers with out hacking yourself" Sure you can... unfortunately you need a cerbral cortex involved which I call the root cause analysis failure.
Very few do in the IT world. Most people are not happy until they have a certain $$$ figure with their job. Little do these people know that $$$ does not always come hand in hand with respect.
Turbo Linux is a Red Hat based Linux that has a special distro geared towards destops and Laptops called Turbo Linux 10 F. It comes with *licensed* codecs for windows media player and real player media along with the only licsened DVD Player for Linux PowerDVD (which is also the best player around for windows). Turbo Linux is the biggest distro in Japan and China... and is found on many *certified* hardware platforms running x86 servers and other bigiron such as mainframes.
Of course certifications are worthless... as worthless as the bosses who hire employees on that sole reason. But you've got to remember being in the IT field that bosses have relatively litte information to go on... all they know is that the person needs to know a certian technology... the certification "proves" that to them. It does not prove it to me or you, but then again we don't have the money. You know the saying "money talks..." I personally don't have any certifications but I work for IBM where it's pretty much common knowledge that they are worthless. Know the knowledge first... *then* get a cert if worse comes to worse.

See what they do and see if it works better!

Talk about non-compliant. It always looks good on IE and then fscks up on every other brower's rendering engine.

lol. You must be a serious Tux racer player!

If you need to keep a ton of people "in line" on a UNIX system your only real choice is to ACL up all the files they access.

Not without a whole lot of painstaking work...

3000G 16MB cache... works great!
Wow... a browser that surfs... ? How's that funtional? (And don't say for local file browsing)
Another WELL THOUGHT OUT MS security scheme cracked again... sure to make front page news!
I view Linux as a source that can be recompiled for many different solutions.
Since Linux is so hackable it can be modified for whatever task you want it to do.. desktop, workstation, server..etc
You should keep it as low tech as possible in order to teach them not to cheat. This is just going to make kids more stupid.
That's sad to hear. The Tezro's on ebay will make an excellent... SERVER! MUHHAHAHAH!!!
