I have seen this with my own eyes at a small ISP that had brought me in to beef up their firewall. There was unfortunately some kind of obligation to install with the computer plugged in - some software issue that needed the connexion. In any case the machine was owned almost immediately after network services were started during installation.
The network at this ISP was under constant attack I put in a diskless box running shorewall and life returned to normal for them.
+1 for bootlegging when you buy counterfeit games on media. And it should go down well with Americans (no not from the continent[s], the short name for people from the United States of) as they have a long history of bootlegging (think prohibition).
unauthorized copying would be the second choice for the downloading of copies.
We all know what piratery really is and it has nothing to do with unauthorised copies of software.
(d) they have not fulfilled obligations relating to the payment of social security contributions or the payment of taxes in accordance with the legal provisions of the country in which they are established or with those of the country of the contracting authority or those of the country where the contract is to be performed;
Lucky for them India doesn't have clauses like this!
collateral damage -- Unintentional or incidental injury or damage to persons or objects that would not be lawful military targets in the circumstances ruling at the time. Such damage is not unlawful so long as it is not excessive in light of the overall military advantage anticipated from the attack. (Joint Publication 3-60)
Asking for more collateral damage is probably a war crime
I thought Norway was one of the least corrupt nations on earth, and that's why it enjoyed a standard of living higher than my own country No the standard of living is because of oil revenue.
$2000+ yes, but quite good value for money over time.
I'm at $450 (todays rate) per year with second 2X battery and Sony RAM extension as options bought with the computer. The Vaio has firewire (my DVD-R and external 250Gb drive plugs in there), a PC card slot (with a D-Link WiFi card or a 3Com EN card depending on where I am). It also has a 1024x768 (virtual) screen which is much more useful with many applications. It has always been a RedHat machine (now at FC7) since it was unwrapped so I don't have to hack around (spend lots of time) to install applications. I used it for 3 years as my work machine plugged into a Samsung LCD...
What will the Asus work like in one year? In seven years? How easy will it be to upgrade?...
The Asus is a badly done copy of my Vaio C1XD (My screen is 1024x480 pixels) - seven years old still going strong and great for getting on the internet when away from home (or out on the balcony).
The whole notion of upgrading PCs has sort of fallen by the wayside.
I upgrade my PC every time there is a new version of Fedora Core [your distribution if choice goes here]. Funny thing is it even works faster/better now than when I bought it seven years ago. Could that be improvements in the kernel?
- it has a DVB-S card - the satellite dish is usually pointing at the BBC / ITV so I can watch UK TV from France while the rest of the family watches French TV (not a good idea most nights) - I can time shift so I watch the show I want to see when I want to watch it - I can record films and then write them to DVD (so everyone gets to watch them in English on the TV) - my computer screen is better than our TV - 19" 16:10, this will change soon, I will then plug my computer into the TV 40" FullHD - I don't have to pay a subscription, the channels are FTA -...
six good reasons
Oh yes it (my computer) runs Linux (FC8) and VDR and xine
They do have a name: United States of America, USA for short. Not that the states concerned are very united - different taxes, different ethnic majorities, different languages (some are Spanish speaking for example)...
So yes, America isn't a country it is several continents.
I pay a tax on all blank media. That money goes to "artists" so they say. Shame, because the blank media is used to back up files that I created - I am the creator/copyright holder of those files. I am annoyed that creating those files does not make me rich, as least as rich as the artists who get the tax I pay on media that I don't use for stocking stuff I am supposed to have "stolen" from them...
My music (as I write this) is from an internet radio station. It is varied and usually corresponds to the style of music I like. Why "steal" it by recording it? It is on 24/24 7/7. Movies I watch on DVB-S TV stations. Ones I really like I buy on DVD (LOTR for example). I do record TV shows to hard drive - time shift - so that I can watch them in the language and at the time of my choosing rather when the TV station decides I should. Is that a crime? Doesn't sound like stealing to me.
Oh and pirates are people who stop boats or cars or other vehicles to steal valuable contents, sometimes even killing the occupants who stand in their way. What does piratery have to do with music, films or TV shows? Who would kill another human being for that? Oh you mean the RIAA would go to that extreme to protect "artists"? Wouldn't they do better stopping "artists" messing with drugs or playing with little boys? Or even (shudders) promoting quality over quantity in artistic creation...
Sorry it is long I had to get it out of my system.
Having watched BBC News 24 bash the computer yesterday evening I'm not sure there is a coincidence (BBC is owned by MS - see iPlayer...).
Apparently the Nigerian govt. would rather have Windows on the machine from what I heard on the news. Oh, and the fact that it is $188, not $100 disturbed the reporter too. The fact that the Intel machine was much more ecpensive didn't put him off but then that runs a "real" OS doesn't it...

My own thought was Adobe makes trash searchable. Always a good thing if you ever happen to lose a valuable object in your trash.
I have yet to find any value in Flash other than its ability to lock my computer up and put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day.
Actionscript programmers reading this please tell me it is just sloppy programming causing this? ... No?
It really is just crap?

So do terrorist software pirates pay tax? Nope http://w3.bsa.org/thailand/press/newsreleases/IDC-Study.cfm
Well look who is in the same boat...
Oh the terror of the thought of even buying "Genuine" Windows Vista!
I'm with you on this one

Send your ideas to me I'll look after them free of charge!

oh wait maybe I shouldn't have signed...
Should read "Probable"...
Well there was also a New Zealander who flew before the Wrights but at that time it took news 6 months to arrive from New Zealand by sailing ship.
America is not a country it is a continent get over it.
I do care. I have three sons and am concerned about sustainable development and reducing pollution.
You don't seem to be so concerned about your environment... Throwing away a computer a year! No need to guess what kind of country you come from.

Iran is visible from Europe.
White House spokesman Tony Fratto said he has no reason to believe any e-mails were deliberately destroyed."
I am out of my mind (have no reason)
I believe (halleluya!)
all (any, who cares...) e-mails were deliberately destroyed!

I prefer the Sony Vaio VGC-LT18E over either. Oh sorry I forgot - this is slashdot, we don't like Sony here...
