That's strange my server was up for that time too before it got physically unplugged and moved to a new data centre... Now all we need is a good conspiracy theory around the number 448 =:-D
I used to sysadmin a Windows NT3.x server... Why did that always go down at 3 a.m. Sunday? Is that another magic number?
You mean Wikipedia is false? Go correct the article then. I guess you weren't born when I was using Betamax and Betacam to shoot video in the late 70s and early 80s...
The original Betacam format records on cassettes loaded with oxide-formulated tape, which are exactly the same as its consumer-market oriented predecessor Betamax, which was introduced 7 years earlier by Sony in 1975. A blank Betamax-branded tape can be used on a Betacam deck, and a Betacam-branded tape can be used in a Betamax deck.
Betamax failed as general public format but went on to become the industry standard for semi-pro and professional low end equipment. They may a few million from that I am guessing...
Sony is as evil as the people who are imposing DRM on you (RIAA, MPAA)? I think not. The rootkit affected a tiny part of the worlds population in a global market place.
A working TV set with decent colour from the early 1990s counts as a shrine? I have a TV set, a mini stereo (with broken CD player), a Vaio C1XD (6 years old running FC5) and a PS2 (with no disk problems).
I do not think that they are one of the worstmultinational corporations. I have not had as many technical problems with their products as I have had with others who don't get beaten to death for producing crap on slashdot every two days. iiyama 19" CRT which broke 2 days out of garantee, Toshiba VCR which got almost no use, Siemens telephones (GSM and hands free landline)... The list goes on.
Is their marketing any worse than other big corporations?
They failed to impose certain technologies that were superior - invention is about creating superior technologies. If the marketing department drops the ball that is another problem.
Well I did. The only other DVD player in the house was in the Mac and we had region coding issues. The PS2 solved that. We still only have that PSP DVD player hooked to the TV. Some of our friends are on their third crap DVD player - not any cheaper than a PS2 if you multiply the price they paid by 3...
Too much exercise for those that do Not enough for those that don't I didn't see much wholesome food in the cities I visited and I saw too much food in the plate at every meal (not talking about junk food which you use to kill your poor) Air pollution Stress... The list goes on
I just came from the supermarket where I saw a pink Nike T-shirt going for 22 euros ($27 US)! Compare that to the price of a DVD (19.99 euros and up). Those marketing departments have lost touch with all reality.
Now where did I put that pack of inkjet T-shirt transfer paper...
"Certainly, if these new next-gen high-def DVD formats are going to win over the mainstream, they need to be seen on larger screen sizes."
doh! I have been very non plused by the HD that I have seen. I am quite happy with the 1440x990 DVB-S image I have on my smaller screen. The day I have the cash for a 1.5 metre diagonal screen, another copy of LOTR directors cut, a player, a sound system and a room worthy of it all I'll let you all know if I have changed my mind.
For now despite the cost (MPAA = mob racketeers) I will go and see worthy content in a movie theatre.
I am guessing that France has the number one spot on the list of nations to test this on...
If they could turn this power against US corporations who are sending me sick porn and fraudulent mortgage offers I would see it under a different light.
If the US cut itself off from the rest of the world not much would change. Lots of neat stuff happens out here and we tend to communicate in English (no the US subset of English) because it gives us a common language. Of course we foreigners tend to be bi-lingual too.
I think we would have less sick porn, less spam and less hate talk too.
Tivo equivalents here cost a third of the price of a mini-itx system with 160 Gig HD and a DVD-RW. They don't stream to other PCs in the house either for that price.

The 30th Nov an exploit against Mambo was announced discretely on the Mambo page. The 3rd of December my sole Mambo site was toast. I found out about the Mambo vs Joomla thing when looking for security updates.
As a result of what I read I dropped Mambo and Joomla and started looking for a Java Portal...
I don't speak Spanish but I have a very good friend who lives there and I often visit him. I know enough words to eat, drink and chat to the women folk. I understand quite a bit and I think if I spent say three weeks I'd be able to talk to people.
It took me three weeks picking strawberries to learn French.

I am not in the US - that didn't affect me.
A company that has good industrial design. A company that really does invent stuff (like Philips does) and isn't full of M$ "Innovate TM" BS.
What have they done wrong? Oh right! They are Japanese so they can't be good can they...

Also in the article is the factoid that Americans consider Fox News the most trustworthy national news program overall

Actually TV used to be like that - when you turned the set on it was always tuned to the first channel.
Well at least here it worked like that in the 1970s

Oh and you can keep Australia.
You can have a heatpipe cooled CPU - no fans at all. mpeg2 acceleration permits 15% CPU on an M10000.

The openchrome driver - the other one does not do accelerated video. VIA has drivers and a hacked xine too but they, well... they suck...
If you want to cool a small case you need to get rid of those flat IDE cables that restrict air flow.
P.S. VDR is a much better solution than Myth in countries with DVB-S and DVB-T.
Reapeat after me "fscked country"! In the rise and fall of great nation syndrome lets just consider that you are in the freefall part...

Hey! it's OK dear you can come out of your closet now =:-D
