I really get annoyed when long distance companies spam or call me up to sell services to me when I already have it. For example, MCI called me not once, twice or three times but a total of 5 times trying to sell me long distance service. At that time I already had long distance service with them. Now of course I do not :)

Well I believe that the company should take responsibility. If Marketing wants product Backup Exec to ship on Friday and the engineer insists that it isnt ready and at the present all it does is erase your HDD the instant you put the cd in, thats Marketing's fault and in all truth the companie's fault. The Engineer shouldnt have to take the blame, but the mohership (the company) should understand its mistake.

Have you ever built a bridge ? I have 2 uncles whoe are civil engineers and yes they have to do a LOT of calculations anticipating every possible situation. For example, like no more than 'x' tonnage on the bridge at a certain time. If a bridge is rated for 200tons of traffic, its built to handle 300 or even higher.

If a programmer makes an installer which deletes the file and in their instructions they say double click this file to install and it deletes all your data, then yes the programmer is at fault. If the instructions clearly say Select /tmp for temp and then install and the user doesnt follow that, then yes its the fault of the user.

We should make software companies liable for the bugs THEY put in and stop blaming the user for everything.

GPL software is also copyrighted/copylefted by the author. If one says GPL is the only license and violates another copyright, thats not what the GPL advocates stand for. What we say is that if you dont agree with a license then DONT USE that product. I use Linux, OpenOffice, Mozilla for the same reasons. Not to warez it out. Even RMS says about MPAA, DeCSS etc is that unless you are sure that the movie is really worth the $8 you pay to see it, dont go to see it. He doesnt say try to sneak in through the service door and see the movie for free because the $8 ticket price doesnt justify the crappy movie.

Thats because id makes a lot of money licensing their engine. Which is also fine by me. If you license their engine, you can make and sell as many games as you like which are based on that engine.

But once the life term of the engine is over, id releases it as free software and look at the Quake 1 engine. Still getting enhancements and more programmers willing to keep breathing new life into that engine.

If I wasnt doing a license audit this month I wouldnt have known, but having an Office XP license does allow you to run Office2k. For example, if a machine has OfficeXP and I want to run Office2k instead of Office XP on that machine, its legal to do so, as long as I dont have more installations than total licenses. I can not however run Office XP on an Office2k license. Or at least thats what I was told by M$.

There ARE people who dont buy CDs at all and only download music, but there are more people who have bought more music after the advent of Napster.

This is what I think believe: The RIAA feels that they should make money off each song which is downloaded or is in electronic form. They dont really care if you have the CD or not. You pay $20 for a CD fine. You rip a song, they want a cut. YOu have a friend rip a song and give it to you from the CD that you bought, they want cuts for the ripping and passing it on.

The RIAA is like a cannibal, devouring its own customers in high prices and the deprivation of fair use.

After the above comment, yes I do buy CDs. I have bought maybe 50 cds since Jan 2001. And none of them are RIAA labels, all indies or certain DJ mixes. I dont listen to popular music and henceforth I wont buy the unnecessarily high priced junk music ..
