I put C90 (ANSI C) on my resume, because it is more marketable. A serious employer wants to know that I know how to write C90, not just vaguely understand the C language. The fact is if your write ANSI C, it will work with just about any compiler (with the exception of any platform specific code). Many embedded compilers only support a subset of C99 anyway (usually, most, but that's the point, it's not all). ISO fussing with a new C revision is laughable.
I think that new technology is always under more scrutiny. We don't need to worry about safe software practices degrading in the driverless car market for many years (by then we'll all be complacent with the technology).
I worked on the Sync project. Part of the reason MSFT was all over the marketing materials is that MS was the one running the campaigns. Ford (and suppliers) did a lot of work, and currently, MS is involved as little as possible. I didn't work on the frontend, but from what I understand, there is an interface. If changes must change anything past the interface, they need to negotiate and pay for changes from MS. Ford does this as little as possible, because they don't want to pay extra... and they don't want to work with MS. Ford and MS are two gigantic companies used to pretty much pushing everyone around and it didn't take long for the relationship to go sour.
Someones wife or husband might find some of that actionable... Or mother or whomever. That's the point. Who knows the potential damage loss of privacy could cause. Me, I want my privacy in all matters, no matter how trivial, even if you don't.
aesthetically pleasing stuff and make a lot of profit off simplifying hardware design for everyday people BUT this has a negative effect on those who actually use computers and computing devices as something beyond a toaster or glorified television
I know that you're making a point here, but you're trivializing how usable the iPhone and iPad are. The iPhone didn't have a negative effect on those who actually use computers as something beyond a glorified television. The iPhone was, in fact, the first phone which was more than a glorified television. You've got it backwards. I also, might take exception with OS X as well as it has far more and better power user features than the other major consumer OS. You can hate the business and technical model, but you can't pretend it's hindering productivity while the peers are innovating. It's the other way around.
1. Police have generally been favorable to or at least tolerant of Tea Party protests. They have been hostile and violent towards Occupy Wall St.
Even the Daily Show, a show which grows more left-leaning by the year, is taking shots at the OWS movement for the bad behavior of a noticeable number of the protesters. I only see what I can through the internet and television, but when you see one of the most left leaning news sources takings shots at the left side's movement for bad behavior and not the right's, it's pretty indicative. For as much as OWS is a legitimate protest, it looks like there are just too many spoiled, entitled kids with no manners for it to survive scrutiny.
What he said. Seriously. SIMs and phones are so cheap in Asia that they're practically disposable. China Mobile with unlimited data and more minutes than you can shake a stick at will run you about $8/month and the SIM's thrown in for free.
Really? My China Mobile data only covers the first 100MB (mind you it costs $2.50 for the month with 100 free SMS messages thrown in) and I couldn't figure out how to get a more unlimited plan than that (however, my Chinese is extremely rudimentary).
It's not that we don't see it, it's that we don't know how to stop it. It's like when you've finally hit rock bottom and all you can do is have a laugh at yourself.
Grooveshark is so bad. Finding music is difficult and the interface is bad. Also, I think that grooveshark's library size is too small (and seems to have gotten smaller over the last 4 or so years).
Maybe. I don't really know that much about the different species (and biology is more description and cataloging than discovery IMO), but I think it's more than that. Like the homosapiens are more intelligent (by a large margin) and the neanderthals are stronger (by a large margin). We couldn't have an olympics between the species because the homosapiens would get demolished. Nor could we have a spelling bee, because the opposite would be true. This is what I am thinking.
I also think that Africans and descendants are stronger by nature, so I think it's odd that they didn't interbreed with the stronger neanderthals. (I don't think that's racist to say, but certainly not PC)
WEP / WPA? I wouldn't lump those two together. WEP is garbage. These people were running WEP. WEP should be unincluded for all modern routers (you should have to go out of your way to get a special purpose WEP router if you really need it). That's an ideal world.
So, what can you do? Use WPA2-AES with a 40 character passphrase if you're paranoid. Problem solved (for all practical purposes).

Religious people watch just as much, if not more, porn than non-religious people.
If not more? Just leave your bias at home please.

It runs nicely in a VM. Windows 7 as a guest OS is horrible. I'd imagine Microsoft will tackle this problem soon enough, though.

You'll be right at home in China. That's pretty much the easiest way to go and it's even cheaper than at home.

It's like software. And an operating system. Kinda. And it has the Internet! And a GUI. It's gonna be totally sweet.
But in seriousness, it's a pretty light little article.

Woo-hoo! This sounds like a sure fire way to get some nice privacy legislation in place.

It's official. I hate the NCAA
Oh shit! You're right. Damn, I got too excited over the joke.
10Mbps is not an entirely unusable speed? That's .... Fast Ethernet!
