Who is to say that the extras on the November edition are even complete? PJ and crew are most assuredly busy working on the next two films. It's possible that the August relase is a head-start for those who want the movie ASAP.
I've read reports that state that the extras found on the first (2-disc) release will not be available on the second (4-disc) release, and vice versa. Hell, the 4-disc version won't even contain the theatrical version of the movie, but (from what I've read) the 30-minute extended version only. So I'm planning on buying both anyway.
For those of you who see this as purely a money grab, it's not. Look at the other options New Line had:
Release the two-disc set only. Hardcore fans bitch and moan about not getting "extras."
Release the four-disc set only. People who enjoyed the movie (but aren't hardcore fans) won't shell out $40+ for a load of features they're not interested in.
Release separate packages with nearly-identical features, but label one a "special edition" with extra footage. Duplicated features for people who buy both. Cue the bitching and moaning.
Release separate packages with widely differing features, one geared toward the casual fan and one geared toward the hardcore fan. Buy only what you want.
New Line did their best to give its customers a choice and opportunity to get what they want.
But seriously, if you don't like it, do somehting about it! Those are local laws, so go to a town council meeting! Run for local office! Don't just whine to Slashdot; local government is one of the few places that a single person can actually make a difference in this country today. Get your ass out there and change something!
So George W. Bush is the greatest president in the world?
Not quite sure where you got that one. Yeah, he happens to be the President of the greatest government in the world, but I would never - never - peg him as the greatest President in the world. He didn't even fairly win the office, and he's done shit with it. $600 tax cut for everybody? Big Fucking Deal: please pay down the debt!
So no, Bush is not the greatest President in the world.
Screw a racketball hitting a wall, I want to see what it looks like when it hits someone in the face. It's happened to me enough that I...oh, nevermind.
Hard as this may be to believe, not everyone uses Debian. If Linux is ever going to make inroads against MS, it's got to have pretty graphical frontends. Sure, apt-get is nice for the hardcore Linux fans, but Joe Average experimenting with Linux doesn't want to fool with the command line; he wants his point and click.
The greatest government in the world - the US government - couldn't successfully prosecute Microsoft, so what makes anyone think that a bunch of Euro weenies will make the cut? Simply put, BillG and the Evil Empire have too many politicians in their pockets to make any investigation successful. If MS is going down, it's going to have to be on the front lines, a direct assault with technologies like Mono.
For my summer internship, I'm working for one of the leaders in the field: Visible World. I can't say a whole lot (signed an NDA), but I'll answer any questions that don't violate that agreement if you want to post replies to this message. It's really pretty exciting.
Winning isn't even the goal at this stage of the game. Under Presidential electoral rules, if one candidate does not win enough electoral votes (I believe it's 270, but I might be off), there must be a run-off within the House of Representatives. AFAIK (and IANA historian), this has NEVER happened! The goal of third-party candidates at this stage should be go garner enough votes to prevent either of the two "main" candidates from holding a majority of the electoral votes.
I turned 18 this past year and was looking forward to voting in my first presidential election...but as the time draws near, I am increasingly bleak about my options. Bush and Gore seem to be virtually the same person (and I'm not about to vote for the 'lesser of two evils'), so I checked out the third-party candidates. After much reading, I settled on Ralph Nader--he seems to be the closest embodiment of who I would like to see in the White House.
Then I began talking with others about voting for Nader. Wherever I turned, I got responses that mirrored the following sentiment: "Please don't vote for Nader, he'll only take votes away from (Bush|Gore)." People still feel locked into the two-party system, so much so that they tell others to and themselves go against their instinct to vote outside the system just to prevent some "greater evil" from gaining power.
How can politics be dead when such attitudes still prevail?
And then Microsoft can turn around a 'break' plug-in support (though perhaps just for that specific plug-in). They may have lost the lawsuit, but that won't prevent them from playing dirty in the future. It'll be the AIM/MSN wars all over again.
"No tax or duty shall be laid on articles exported from any state."
End of story. Unless Congress passes an amendment to the Consititution (and it is ratified by the requisite number of states), sales tax is only applicable if the product does not cross borders.
I don't think that that's the point of the article. The point is that they DO, at this moment, control a great deal of what people read, hear, and see, and this is a Bad Thing (tm). Perspectives on a story are often as important as the story itself, and if only one perspective is available to a reader (or viewer, depending on the case), then the public loses.
So, there was a planned Millennium crossover, with Frank Black making an appearance on the X-Files. I'm not sure if this is still happening, but either way it implies that Carter's creations lie in one universe. Wouldn't it be possible for Mulder and Scully to live on within the universe, perhaps making appearances when the time is right? Obviously, this could easily be overused and made stale, but, done right, it could be an effective method of keeping the two characters "alive."

I don't deny that they are milking it, they're the owners of a ridiculously lucrative franchise. But they are at least trying to do right by the fans.

First time I read the story, I thought it said "a retarded French army colonel who is soon to make a free fall parachute jump from 25 miles up."

From the US Constitution, Article I, Section 9:
"No tax or duty shall be laid on articles exported from any state."
End of story. Unless Congress passes an amendment to the Consititution (and it is ratified by the requisite number of states), sales tax is only applicable if the product does not cross borders.
I'm not so sure this is accurate. I believe that the restrictions are against either of the companies colluding EXCLUSIVELY with the other.
For this reason, if the OS division (MSOS?) were to GPL Windows code, it'd be cool because ANYONE can use GPL'd code.
Can anyone back me up on this? I think it was written in the DoJ recommendation, but I don't remember for certain.
