Comcast has never cared about the "general customer experience". They have a monopoly in most places they actually do business and don't care one red cent whether or not you like their service. Enough people are addicted to their fucking tv and internet that if you leave they won't miss you at all. I was even told by customer service representatives that my complaints were useless and they didn't care if I took my business elsewhere. I happily did just that. Have never and will never use them again.

The DA only has that power if you actually receive the ticket. At the "point of sale" so to speak it's completely up to the officer's discretion whether you get a ticket or not. Why play the "I'm better/smarter than you card" and ensure you will get a ticket when a little etiquette goes a long way. How is it better to say "Yes I do" than to say "I think I was going about 65 (In a 55) but my speedometer's a little off"? Neither one makes you look cool to the cop, or your friend sitting in the passenger seat, but one's sure as hell more likely to get you out of the ticket than the other is.

The cop's job is to enforce the law. I don't like cops any more than I like being bitten by a snake, but I don't go around provoking either of them.

They don't have to sue you, they just cut off your service and report you to credit agencies if you don't pay up. It's extortion, plain and simple. I still won't use comcast because of a bill disputed over 5 years ago. I was double-billed for a year and called every single month to have the extra charges removed. When I got past my "1 year minimum or pay a hefty fee" that Comcast used to force in my area, I cancelled my service. I was paid in full when I cancelled and magically got an $80 bill the following month. I called and asked what the bill was for and it turned out to be for services I never had. I didn't pay it. Every once in a while I call to find out if they still have record of it and sure enough, even up to last month they still try to get me to pay them in order to start new service. I have no intention of ever using their services again, however so I just laugh and hang up.

They won't bother to sue you, but if you want tv in your area (and it's serviced by Comcast) don't expect to use them.

Also, why should anyone be responsible for other people relying on them to contact others? Seriously that shouldn't be my responsibility. If someone is using my friend's list (on whatever site) to reach people, great, but that doesn't obligate me to not change my friends list. It never has and never will. People "cull" their friends lists all the time. Yes they generally provide some warning, but not always. Again, your suggestion wouldn't make anything different than it currently is.

I'm not even sure what you're suggesting with automatically generated representations of relationships.

Count yourself lucky. Or count yourself as someone who never plays CDs in their car. Almost every CD I keep in my car has become damn near useless. I have 600-700 CDs collected over the last 20 years and fully 1/4 of them have scratches that cause major issues with playing at least one track. I have always kept my CDs carefully in jewel cases and eventually books (problem begins here mostly) for those that aren't "important" to me. They last longer than tapes as far as quality of playback (stretched tapes always sucked) but they don't stand up to as rough treatment. I only had 1 tape (out of 300-400 I had) ever get eaten by a stereo, and that was the stereo's issue, not the tape's. CDs on the other hand, don't stand up well to a warm car, or being dropped on the ground accidentally, or many other forms of "rough" treatment.

It's all anecdotal, really. I haven't had particularly bad experience with either media, but I was luckier with tapes.

Nowhere in your original post did you imply that you were lacking direction (currently) wasn't directly related to having a focus during your primary education. The way I read your post (correctly or incorrectly) was that your focused education was great for putting you into a technical field, but apparently useless for helping you decide what would be the right career.

Your response offers far more detail than your original post and gives a much better understanding of why you think they way you do about the system. I would suggest that the level of detail provided there would give a far better support of your position than your first post did.

As for my rudeness, yes I was being rather snarky. Blame it on the slashdot influence. My communication skills are not lacking but occasionally civility is. I'll accept your rebuke of my behavior without further word on it.

This is exactly what I was going to say. I started playing D&D in 1979 (I was 7) and never thought it was particularly limiting. We applied rules as we saw fit, other than the basic D20 to attack and 3d6 for character stats. Everything else matured as we matured, and when we got beyond the level of player that thinks killing and gaining levels is the goal, we still used rules that we felt didn't get in the way but added nuance to the game. I've always felt that was the best part of D&D, the flexibility you had to "create your own" type of game and rules system within the system.

Maybe my friends and I just weren't the demographic they were really looking for though. I still have all my first edition books, and never really liked second edition. I didn't even bother with 3rd edition.
