Nor shall this spoken feature be a standard within Linux, just cause i think Linux will never include GUI functions, or does it ?
Next time you do OS comparising understand what your talking about first. Windows is an OS, Linux is a NotOS its just a part of a could be an OS if some people would include some use full programs with it to become a OS! Damn why do i bite ?
It will do its round every first monday of the month, and clean up all our space mess after us, why should we care if we can pay someone to clean up after us, thats what most of us get teached when they are young, mom will clean up and its getting worse every year.
I can play around 16-18 hours a day, and i need a base monthly fee of $60 dollars for the Internet and EverQuest accounts, then after that you can pay me for the number of hours i have worked(played) and everything in the game i gathered will be yours ofcourse, too sell or to keep as thee likes.
Steve was Attacked by one DDoS attacker not ?
I read his story twice, cause i was intressted and cause it was about IRC bots, and i am an IRC addict, the trouble he had to go tru to get into the DDoS Bot network was pretty alot and to switch places/reprogram the bots isnt to hard, so if a couple of these persons would attack you its pretty hard to stop them. I know of people who have over 1000 root accounts with IRC Bot trojans on them to attack people with, this looks like a Real problem too me, sertainly if you run an ISP with not to many people or dont have enough expertise to infiltrate like Steve did. It gets worse when some attack your home cable/adsl, my provider will disconnect you cause your connection is using to much bandwidth without warning...although its not you creating the bandwidth they dont even check.
The problem is people could tamper with it, would pretty wrong when others put backdoor patches into the kernel and distribute it tru there common p2p program or maybe even Usenet...we need to have a secure place on the web to distribute these files.
Now i am not saying this couldnt be solved, by md5 or what ever check is needed, but you know that i know that common people like me dont use those checks, until something goes wrong....

First why i seek one, i tried Cygwin-X (its SLOW!) and i need it for my Roommates to run programs from my machine, they all use windows and arent the Computer Geeks i hoped they would become and i cant get them to try or even use any Unix like OS (meanly cause they only play Illegal Downloaded Games), but nevertheless there some programs i would like them to try and or use, but these need X, and cant seem to find a X server for windows, which i can use freely and is pretty fast, i tried some Commercial ones and they work really good, but i hate to make people use illegal software and so i wont distribute it.
And idea's or coders who want to start a new project ?, cause look windows is used for Office and Games...now if you get other X apps running on your Company Network of a Linux/BSD server for free wouldnt that be an Enhancement ? you can then also mix MacOs/Linux/BSD/*nix and Windows in a Company and still run all your software on nearly every machine....i see good use here i think..
Dont strip Networking support, cause i think we will go back to Dumb/Smart-Terminals in the near future and X in this is proven technology and trust me managers love those words. And also with Linux/BSD its very inexpensive to create, and with the internet it means i can run my own e-mail client at my GF and at work, damn i love networking...
Also i see no realy problems with X except maybe that its hard to compile (which i think it isnt) and hard to configure (which also isnt true), it does all it needs todo and it does it pretty fast on my machine's (a AMDK6/2-350 and a Indigo2 Impact), look and i can run my favorite game Freeciv on IRIX without compiling or installing a binairy (which isnt available for IRIX 6.2) tru X forwarding and it runs just as fast if i was running it local on my Linux Box..
You ever tried installing Office 97 under Windows 2000 ? i did, and you know what the installer kept giving errors, so they force you to buy office 2000 or XP or whatever, maybe i did it wrong, dont even want to know, but in the end it didnt work
Shouldnt they be atleast good configured when they come out of the box ? why should you have to pull all kind of switches to make it stable in the first place ? i have crashed NT4.0, WIN2K and XP with blue screens and all, and it keeps coming and it will never leave us, until they turn them green or something;P
but then we are happy with what we got, thats not what i can say for the average windows user who i hear only but complain the whole time, yeah know i some dont, but most do...or so i see/hear...i dont care..
We dont have any enemy's, or so we shouldnt need to have any, we will go on with what we are doing and keep doing it for our selves, not for others, for our freedom and for what we need, not the freedom of other, like they even care about there freedom so why should we care...i care for my freedom and for what i like...and morons we are but arent morons everywhere ?;)
EULA rings a bell ? ever read it ? MS has his asses covered most of the time, i remember someone telling me that in one EULA of them stood something like if you sue us the cach ammount cant be larger then 5 dollars. or something like that....now noone reads that EULA shit anyways or do some people ? i know if my girlfriend read it she would stop using MS products today. *idea* =)
Hmmm, while i read the story and after i looked at the screenshots the Abiword site seems to be down....i was going to try if it would run on my OpenBSD box, but nevertheless maybe slashdot should mirror text only things to decrease load on other people's webservers ?
>>Meanwhile MS announces to show theire sources to european govs (XP-source for gov of austria
I wonder if they can compile it them selves, cause i wouldn't know if they are showing me all the sources, cause i dont know how many of you have browsed tru the sources of a major project like a complete OS, thats gonna be HELL....and finding spyware things or others is going to be HELL...now if you cant be sure if you have everything and cant compile it your self whats the deal ?
( anyone who can read german found something like that in the article ? )
But nevertheless who knows if they didnt just remove the parts they didnt want you to see, your happy running MS's owned compiled versions of XP which have spyware and or other strange things in it, while you have a source code, i guess since windows XP they got smart and implented the spyware stuff seperate easy to remove from the source package, so we can show it to someone, i wouldnt trust them if you cant compile and run your own version after you audited ofcourse:)
Just another paranoid rant..
But just showing sources means shit in my perspective.
Yes, some BSD seem to have less, but i think most bugs in linux(the kernel) are found cause people look for them in the source, instead of looking on the outside and finding something, cause thats far more difficult todo i guess...
And i wonder if MS who sure also looks for bugs in NT and creates patches for them, tells you what they found, i think they just instead make a global patch and maybe they corrected over a 100 bugs in that ? do you know, does anyone know except MS ? maybe they dont solve bugs cause noone wrote a exploit for it and its a hard piece to rewrite cause it would take a lot of time, and they really want to use that time elsewehere, do you know ? no only MS knows...
So i guess you just cant compare linux and NT in that way, sorry to say but true...
Quit whining about SPAM please, if you dont like it quit using the thing that creates it, there are loads of alternatives, like IRC;) or anyother messaging service...although in the end they will be hit by SPAM also...ah i dont care you email users!
Write an E-mail that explains why not to open atachments like you normaly tell them, then put an attachment on it which says i_am_not_a_virus.exe or something which does something like the following, open a popupbox which reads: when you press 'OK' your computer will forward this email to all the people in the adress book and then trash your computer... ( and dont add a cancel box....ofcourse )
Loads of people will press OK, and there computer
will be dead, all their information gone...some will learn and some wont....
I am addicted to a couple of things and one of them is Games, although i am less addicted since i started using Unix only, but still freeciv and freechess are a bit addictive...and the 4 years a kept playing the massive multiplayer games like Ultima Online and Planetarion before where pretty hefty addictive....
and there for it was my Atari-ST for which had about a 1000 floppy disks with games on it...and some other stuff ofcourse:)
But after all i learned how to use computers pretty well, i learned some programming and wrote a Arkanoid version once and now i have had some Sysadmin jobs and now i am Programmer or so they say, i still lack good hacking skillz...
Still i think my game addiction wasnt really bad for me, only it made me forget there was a real world out there although i dont really lack social skills, i have a handfull of friends and i go out to the pub since i was 14 and i still do now when i am 22...i have a girlfriend...so life seems pretty oke...still i live in a fantasy world, but i dont think thats cause of the games....
Now i am addicted to more things like IRC, Smoking and Sex...
I learned a lot of nice people tru IRC which are really very nice, IRC also keeps me from doing my work at 100% cause i can use it at my work;P
Smoking yes is a bad habbit i guess....and Sex well figure....
Overall aslong an addiction doesnt harm you in the real world around you and you can live a life you want to everything is great....
Will Windows Security get better or worse out of this is the question....
Now i dont really know if this person was good in his job or not, but i read some article about him from 1998 and it didnt look to good....
So probably this is a good step for Windows, which would be bad from my perspective...
Anyways i have quit using MS products anyways, so i dont really care, except for my Goverment who is using MS products i hope they switch to a secure system like OpenBSD or MS gets wise and secures its SHIT......
So i say, they eventualy will start discussing if its the company's fault or that of the users putting up the stuff for download.
