I don't get this attitude. I just don't see where you are coming from. If you want current stuff, run testing or unstable. No big deal.
This makes it pretty clear you have never run production systems.
The last time I ran a.deb from unstable, it broke my webserver and my boss wasn't very happy.
Linux has had an upstream battle to win any corporate acceptance. My CIO was STILL questioning our choice to use RedHat in production LAST WEEK.
If Debian want's to remain a relevant distro, they need up to date packages in STABLE. If Debain would like to remain on a scarce few computers (with more people dropping off all the time), they are doing a great job.
Untested and unstable software packages are just that. Untested and unstable.
And unsuitable for any kind of production work.
You seem to be forgetting that the SPEWS fanatics are seriously wounding the large majority of ISP's small customers who are not spamming or doing anything bug legitimate business. They call it "collateral damage" and feel the ends justify the means.
You can't possibly belive that blowing up an entire city to hit one human target can legitimately be called a success?
Redwood City/Shores is 25 miles south of San Francisco, the big landmark as you drive through Redwood City on US 101 is the Oracle headquarters.
It is pretty much smack between San Jose and SF in an area where property and the cost of living are as high or higher than anywhere in the US.
The average cost of a home around here is $550,000 and rent averages out at $1000 per person monthly.
Sure, 60k sounds like a bunch of cash (and if you live in Iowa, it is!) but if you take into account that these people are forced to work insane hours, have no quality of life and a very high cost of living, they really are getting jacked around by EA.
So you would rather have someone consistantly lie to you to protect his personal/political/corporate/pseudo-religious interests rather than have someone who is willing be a bit more flexible with his opionions as the ruler of this fantastic corporate dicta...er democracy?

Not bizarre at all. If you look at the rest of the bands who do allow coomerical distro of derivative works, you can notice a similar trend among all of them.
Q: There is talk of a Google browser. Internet Explorer has had its security woes. How do you keep users?
Gates: More has been invested in making IE secure than any browser on the planet by a long shot. Nothing is going to change. That's the one over 90% of people are going to keep using.
The reason I switched to Firefox on my Wintel box is because Nothing is going to change!
As a *nix/Windows SA who uses OS9 as my primary OS at home (I never had to switch...), I will be very very very happy when I finally get to use OSX everyday. The problem here: I make music with my Mac. While I do have the ability to run my sequencer app (Logic audio) in OSX now, I don't have drivers for my audio hardware to listen to the sound. Not to mention the VST plug-ins I have been using for years are now useless under OSX, not just because they are not carbonized, but because Emagic (developer of Logic Audio, recently purchased by Apple) has stopped using VST plugs in OSX. They are going to use the OSX core audio format Audio Units. So now I have to wait for all of my plugs to be ported to AU also.
Yes, Apple is taking steps to get this stuff done ASAP, but until it is.............
Glad I just bought a new 933mhz box. I will be using OS9 for the forseeable future.
As an IT manager/Senior Network-Unix SA who never completed college (or any certifcations for that matter), the best advice I can offer you is take the path you feel is best for you. Whatever you choose, make sure you are going to LEARN something. Stay excited. When I was in school (mind you, I was an English major), I didn't feel like I was learning at a quick enough pace. I dropped out. I have earned a majority my my experience on the job (and the many, many years spent tweaking on my own) and find working to have been the best path for me. Good luck.

Cowboy Neal clearly posted this just this to watch the flame wars.
He HAS to read the articles, right?
Maybe April 1st has been extended this year.

They are all on independent record labels.
Beasties and MMJ are both on majors.
Chuck D? I can't explain that one.
Bizarre.

Did you update all your drivers? Did you call Dell for support?
I know it is Sunday and news is slow, but this is pretty wonky.
...first post.
> you Slashdot users
And what the fuck are you?
Damn your band sucks.
Go look up Social Distortion and then get back to me.
I use my mac to come home and make music and edit video after a long week of smacking around linux/sunos/microsloth/ios machines around.
When I come home, i don't really feel like spending half my night recompiling the latest kernel.
I just want to make music and video.
After I eat my sushi, of course.

Did Jon figure this all out on his very own or did he spend the weekend reviewing a clue roadmap?
When was the last time Apple seemed to care about market share?
