This was a graduation address, not a state of the union speech. He's not laying down policy here. He's speaking to a very specific audience (graduating students) about a very specific topic (transitioning from school to the workforce). This was not the preamble to new legislation, nor should it be misconstrued as such.
IMHO, Eisenhower's Council on Youth Fitness was a far more intrusive condemnation of how we spent our leisure time than this.
If you're going to go with someone in their 50s as Thor, why not Dolph Lundgren? IMHO, it was poor scripting that did the man in, not his acting. Check out "I Come in Peace" some time...
Except the studio has already factored in RDj's inevitable self-destruction after Iron Man 2. By the time The Avenger's starts shooting, they'll have him down to a box of crackers and a prepaid Starbucks card.
Frankly, I feel the US is more prepared than most countries. Unfortunately, that still doesn't quite cut it.
I think the threat of indefensible counter-attack is going to make any government think twice about a full-on cyber-attack, taking the same role nuclear retaliation did during the Cold War.
In what context were these quotes made? What was the nature of the lies? Were they covering up their own incompetent response (like, say, the FAA taking too long to contact NORAD)? Or were they of a much larger scope (like trying to hide a missile attack on the pentagon)? Quite a bit of difference between those two...
"By using less fuel you are shifting the tax burden onto those who cannot afford a high tech vehicle."
How do you figure? If the sticker price is higher, then so is the amount of taxes I'm paying to roll it off the showroom floor.
Also, your argument is only valid at the leading edge of the paradigm shift to high tech vehicle adoption. Eventually, those brand new 'high tech vehicles' will fall into the secondary markets (e.g., used car lots), becoming more affordable with each resale. It's only a matter of time until we reach the tipping point where gas guzzlers are in the minority. When we're all driving cars that get 100 mpg, then we're all sharing the burden equally.
Fighting progress because it changes the status quo is a losing proposition.
Why not try laser correction? I used to have astigmatisms in both eyes (one significantly worse than the other). Laser surgery completely removed my dependency on eyeglasses.
Now that I'm getting older, I'm finding my arms a little too short;). So a pair of reading glasses that can adjust as my presbyopia progresses would be greatly appreciated.
That way, Frodo starts out near-death from exposure to the outside world, but ends up happy at home, blissfully ignorant of what's going on outside the shire, while his ancient and powerful Supreme Leader takes care of all that messy 'freedom' stuff....
If you will always be in the same location as all the systems you're outfitting, go with what you can provide adequate support for (Linux/Open Source, I presume).
If these systems are going to be scattered around the globe, go for Windows. Say what you will about Windows, but you'll find on-site support in damn near every country you travel to.
Macs might be a good option if they'll be deployed to major metropolitan cities only (NY, LA, London, etc.).
So what is the current acceptable mourning period before asking about continued support? I'll need to update my records in case something happens to Torvald./sarcasm
Geez... IMHO, the OP was asking a perfectly valid question... it's not like he was asking for the widow's phone number...
I'm going to Japan this December. If I pick one of these up and bring 'em back to the US, will I be able to play my current DS/GBA games on it, or is there some sort of 'region' DRM restriction?
Solid state storage? Command channels to take some of the load off the CPU? Sounds like the what we had on the s/370 (MVS) platforms.... back in 1990...
Anyone can post a comment on Amazon.com... people have started up whole businesses based on selling positive reviews. Without any procedure for vetting the reviews and/or reviewers, they're all suspect, and consequently, hold no value to me when making a purchase.
If you want game reviews, get them from a reputable source (to avoid any holy wars, I'll refrain from listing my personal favs).
When every job out there has a 4-year degree as a prereq, it's kinda hard to justify getting anything less.
Who said anything about legislation? Only you. Attack straw men much?
Ad Hominem much?

One man's weed is another man's smoke. It's all perspective, baby.
I AM a Wall Street bastard, you insensitive clod! ;)
I mean, think of how much revenue they must've lost!

Slow news day, huh?
WotC attacks the gazebo!
Puts a whole new twist on the old zombie mantra:
Zombie: Braiiiins! Need more BRAIINS!!!
Employer: Yes, you do... your work experience is attrocious!

How can he make a proper uninformed rant if you expect him to read anything first?!?!?!

...getting it insured. Just ask anyone who's ever built one of those DIY motorcycle kits or a custom shop (like OCC).
