I did the same thing on my 80 GB maxtor but it didnt help (yes, I had the right PCB firmware! I asked maxtor what I should have and they helped me). The motor would spin down after some secons.
But at least I tried. Nowadays, I backup everything. Before I didnt backup everything.
What a sad, boring world you are picturing. I work as a sysadmin at an university. We have about 500 users at my dept. All have public IPs and unfiltered ports (ok, the univ filter like 5-10 ports like dhcp but thats about it). We dont have a proxy.
I would not want to work where you work. I would not like it, its like a prison.

Yes, I did (and the linked article from slashdot).
"In December of last year, Ralsky told the paper that anti-spammers had been flooding his postal mail with coupons, brochures and ads. Others have left threatening voice mails, he said, and one person left a plastic bag of excrement on his front doorstep."
Im disappointed on USA, I had hoped that he was shoot by now.
deja-vu.flashdance.cx is a 2.2.23 box. Its a NAT box for 2 windows computers (my parents and my sisters). MDK 6.1 All servers turned off, no rpm upgrades exist (for security patches) and to compile the servers was to much hassle. And I wasnt really in a need to run servers on it. Now it got 78 days uptime. 1 GB HD, P120, 80 MB RAM.
No need to upgrade it. Rest in peace or something.
Ohh! *VERY* interesting. After all, our (I live in Europe, Sweden) leaders arent so stupid that I have thought. I agree on many things that they think.
But its bad that they are naive about science and technology. However, that wasnt any news.
This is the most interesting text I have read on slashdot this year.
I have pointed to the right IP with this hostname: iSONEWS.R0OT-SERVERS.NET
and I like my hostname better than the others
that have pointed some domain or hostname to
isonews:P
Someone that have the program, send me a email. I want to run my favorite mp3s through it and see what it thinks about them :)
Im still waiting on "SCO revokes microsofts windows license" :)

Is it possible to buy a "I HATE RIAA/MPAA" T-shirt somewhere?

Yeah, I know. But I was hoping for a kernel patch.
Wonder shaper is a bit complex to setup if you only need this thing.
This thing that speeds up the connection (and prioritizing empty TCP ACKs
and ToS low-delay traffic)... Does that exist as a patch for linux also?
I think some ppl would be interested.

Maybe the bootup in Linux will include this in the future:
Linux is Unix. Unix is Linux.
Australia sucks. Simply. Move away if you live there.

In other words; you are owned.
And how many FPS will they get in Quake?
Yes, warez.B0FH.net
Over 10-years-old BBS still alive on the internet: telnet fabbes.flashdance.cx
SWEDISH ONLY.
Thank you for the tip.

Use AFS and kerberos. Works for mit.edu, Ericsson, kth.se and MANY others so it should work for you too.
