Being prayed for by others obviously wont help your odds in any activity. But I'm a firm believer in mind over matter. The placebo effect is great evidence of this. If someone truly believes that they will survive through some surgery, or live another day because of some deity or something, then they probably will. Their religeon, deity, values and morals could all be completely false and it doesn't matter. Because in their brain they truly believe that X will happen, it does. Because you truly believe a surgar pill is actually the perfect cure for your ailment, it will be.

That's my real problem with religeon is that it gives some imaginary omiscient being credit for the achievments of flesh and blood people.

    "Save me Jebus!"

Jebus didn't save you, you saved you. Because you believed you would survive the surgery, you did. It had nothing to do with your Jebus, who is completely imaginary and such.

Any string is a good name, and any string is a good address. If that's what it is, it's a structure. Just call it a struct. Don't have anything private. Don't do anything silly like having a hidden name and address field with get_name and set_address and get_name and set_name functions. Or even worse, make a virtual base class with virtual get_name and set_name functions, and override it with the one and only representation. That's just elaboration. It's not necessary.

Thank You! This is the number one java peeve. Every time I just want to make a structure I've got to make a whole class. That's a whole file. That's a whole lot of extra code. In C/C++ I can make an equivalent struct in a few lines.

This is why I like python so much. I can do all the object-orientedness I want and all the proceduralness I want and they work together perfect. And everything pops out into super efficient C code and then into executable with my gcc. And if I want it cross platform I can just use jython and get workin .class files.

There's no point in adding more years if those years aren't fun. To have a lot of fun you usually have to take risks. Acceptable risks though, no drugs or stunt motorcycle jumps. Can't be that stupid. Just a little stupid, like bungee jumping and sky diving.

The bottom panel on my KDE desktop is filled with icons for my 'daily use' applications. No matter how covered my screen is with applications windows (and it is almost always fully covered), I can click on a panel icon and open a new app. I haven't figured out how to put app icons on the Windows bottom panel. I don't even know if it can be done. Perhaps it can only be done by smart Windows geeks, but not by simple-minded Linux people like me.

Have you tried dragging and dropping the icon for the app from the start menu into the taskbar? *gasp* How about using some context sensitive menus, they're very nice.

Also, does he not know about the Firebird? I'm a dual boot XPpro/Gentoo guy. But I use the same general software in both OSs. Firebird, Thunderbird, gaim, cygwin, winamp2/xmms, gimp, openoffice.

Which OS I'm in doesn't really matter. But when I need to play a game, if I'm in linux I restart. And if I need to code a cs project, and I'm in windows I restart. Other than that I use whichever os my pc is in, in order to minimize restarting. If you avoid MS software (besides of course the OS itself, and the powertoys) Windows doesn't suck that bad.

I would also like to note that he somehow thinks that installing any software in linux is as easy or easier than in windows. Double clicking on an icon, then clicking ok is infinitely easier than even the amazing apt-get or emerge will ever be. Simply because you have to know beforehand the command and the name of the software and such. With windows you just click on the picture. The necessity of the user to know a piece of information without any prompting makes it really really hard. But, for smart people who know what they're doing it makes it really really easy. So yeah, linux stuff is just as easy as windows stuff, after you give someone an hour lecture on all the commands and such. A monkey can use windows. Hell, a newborn baby can use windows. They'll never be efficient as the linux guy, but in order to be that efficient they have to have a higher level of intelligence and learning. Something most people can't achieve. Lack of brain capacity and such.

Damn, I made a post that is too long again. Shit.

Let's spend all day clicking on monsters, then they die, then I click on monsters, and then they die. Pretty frickin' boring if you ask me. Not much game there. Hell I could write a program where stuff appears, you click on it, and then it dies. It's not much of a game.

But as for cheating, all cheaters of all sorts need to be banned. I'd go so far as to say game companies should share cheater information. Gamers usually play more than one game, and someone who cheats at CS probably cheats at WC3. There should be an international video game cheater black list.

You might say, that's not fair! They paid for the game, if they want to play it that way, let them. Well here's the thing. If you cheat at say a 1 player game, you're only hurting yourself. I will lose a lot of respect for your gaming skills, but it's not hurting me so I don't care. In multiplayer online games when you cheat you hurt the community and others. If 20 guys are playing CS and one of them has the aimbot the game is ruined. Now one team has a serious advantage and the game is no longer fun. If no admin is around the cheater will continue. The only choice is to quit playing. When you're a game company and 19 people quit playing because of 1, well the numbers speak for themselves. Ban the 1, keep the 19.

If ever I take part in creating or running an online type game I will have the harshest penalties on cheaters. Especially if it is a game that costs money. I think a great idea would be to put a clause in the EULA. Confirmed cheaters will be permanently banned with no second chances. They will also be required to pay a fine of $X. Make this policy well known and I guarantee a huge decrease in cheating. Especially if you make use of it fairly often. Heck, the money from catching the cheaters could pay the salaries of 1 or 2 guys who can spend all day catching them.

Man, I could talk all day about cheaters. Pretty much all there is to it is that if you cheat at video games in any way shape or form you suck ass. Be ashamed, your video game skills are so weak that you depend on something else to do the game for you. I'll tell you what, next time you buy a game and you just cheat and have the computer beat it for you, call me. I'll take the game beat it for you and give it back. I'll save 50 bucks and you'll save yourself some embarassment.
