Seriously, how the hell is this news? Sure, a brand new phone crashing a lot is a pretty newsworthy item, but why does everyone go "Oh how "ironic"?!?!". It's not ironic, it's blue, much like the crash screen on a PSP or some Nintendo DS'. Just because Microsoft used it predominantly doesn't automatically make this a news item.
I'm sure if it came up with a Mac OS X kernel panic, or a screen of death of another colour, it wouldn't have made it on Slashdot....
It'll never make it to production and all the nerds will mourn what could have been...
(Microsoft Surface (the original), the folding book thing, the microsoft house of the future, etc etc)
So instead of just leaking money through flopping products, Microsoft have decided to skip the middle man (themselves and their H/W partners) and just give the money (in the form of laptops) to the few hipsters who actually want their crap
According to Wikipedia, if that power was generated by coal alone, that would produce nearly 1000kg of CO2 A DAY. that's not exactly an environmentally friendly number, but then the CO2 emmisions from all the complete unconstructive computer games many of us play must be a hell of a lot more in comparison....
The bad news: North Korea has scrapped an armistace between it and the USA, and threatened to start nuclear war.
The worse news: The EU have proposed a blanket ban on all forms of pornography on all forms of media.
The bright side: We may all be dead before the EU passes its legislation.
Since the iPad came out, many websites hve justed their sites so flash isn't needed. Indeed, with Flashblock on my mac, i find the times i actually need flash are few and far between. I could probably live without flash or java even for browsing nowadays.
If you get a better gameplay experience from pirating software instead of buying it (as is the case here) it just shows how horribly broken the retail version is. That's the sign of poor management and terribly implemented DRM.
How severe is the injury? Have you got any fingers left? How much use will the injured hand have left?
As someone born with a deformed hand, which is missing two fingers and one of the remaining ones is a crock of shite, I know the sort of issues you're going to face. Although I'm no hardcore gamer, Minecraft is my past-time, and believe it or not I have no problems with the default controls. I also have no problem with the Playstation controllers, although XBox is quite difficult for me to use properly.
As for advice, if it's that severe an injury, get a multi-buttoned mouse. If you still have fingers left, man up and deal with it. I did.
Keep the ignorant ignorant and stop the stupid killing themselves. Sensible really. When Fast Food restaurants have to warn people that coffee might be a tad hot, I'm not suprised to see Google/Motorola do something like this to stop the ignorant from breaking their phones and suing them for it. Although in my opinion, a disclaimer similar to the MIT license would have been better than a warning akin to that on high voltage cabling. Ah well, that's the way the world is heading...
GNU/Linux is great, don't get me wrong. It's secure, highly customisable, fast and stable. It's found its niche's and that's important, but don't force me to use it on the desktop. Why? Because it doesn't work on the desktop. With all the choices of desktop environments, from Unity, to GNOME, to KDE, to XFCE, you end up with the horrible world of fragmentation. Things aren't consistent, and consistency is something you need in a desktop environment. There's no point giving me a.DEB compiled for Ubuntu if i'm running Fedora, as even if i do get it converted, it won't be tightly intergrated into my DE if it even runs at all.
And that's why i follow Haiku. It's fast, it's consistent and there isn't a billion distro's to worry about. Until all the GNU/Linux distro's can agree on one solid OS to focus on and cure the massive problem of fragmentation from one platform to another, i'll stick to Haiku.
what will happen to the various UNIX-like operating systems, like Linux, the various BSD's, Solaris, Mac OS X etc? And what about WINE? ReactOS? Haiku? I guess these will all owe royalties too?
This is a very dangerous road to go down, and if it does come to pass, the world will become a very different place, both legally and physically, and will most likely destroy open-source as we know it.
But this is America we're talking about, they're fine relying on Microsoft Windows.
'There is no difference from going into a store and stealing a packet of Pringles or a handbag, and stealing something online. Right?'
Bulls**t.
Piracy is piracy. Theft is the physical act of stealing the original. Piracy is like trying to steal the hypothetical packet of Pringles, but the Pringles are still there.
LETS POST IT TO SLASHDOT!!!!1!11!!ONE!

because this is the typical knee-jerk response from any company whose income supply is threatened by another.

Nothing better than the taste of broken...
Ever heard of Secure Boot?

But it's not on the internet, it's in Italy. I'd be genuinely surprised if cold fusion happened on the internet...
"My 9 year old daughter has been missing for the last fortnight!!!" "Have you checked facebook?"
Didn't pretty much everyone who went to comment on this news article?
Charlie! Lets go to Candy Mountain, Charlie!

Got a fairer alternative to democracy you'd like to share?
