I believe your question was 'how not to lose money', as opposed to the ever popular 'how to make money'
The guy who posted about lessening your graphics and stuff was right. It makes sense...
Shop around for webhosts! Do you NEED a dedicated server, or will virtual hosting be sufficient? There are great deals out there for people who just need virtual hosting. My current webhost is $10 a month, no limits, full PHP + MySQL. If you get a modest amount, then I would guess this is for you.
Plus, going the virtual hosting route, you don't have to worry about routers, hardware, or any of that garbage anyway.
I saw a guy at QuakeCon last year who had built an entire PC into a hard suitcase.
It was nice, but he did say he had a problem with cooling the thing... but then again, I figure you can always do liquid cooling. I was thinking about doing one like that myself. It's the one and main reason I don't go to more LAN parties, other than the distance and sleep deprivation and bad food thing;-)
Why don't they use such mirrors for power plants...
The way I'm told Nuclear Reactors work is the Uranium or whatever heats the water which makes steam, which turns the turbines, right? Correct me if I'm wrong...
Who says that about ten of these babies couldn't boil a whole lot of water?
Yes, there are a whole lot of details to work out, but that's why I'm not an engineer... someone take this idea and run with it already... free power is good power.
Do search engines have bots that go out and search already indexed pages to check for dead links, changed pages, and etc? I would think that the major search engines would have many of these to make sure their data was up to date... if nobody has done this yet, there's my contribution;-)
It's an 8:40.asf file, and only 2:30 is of Doom3 footage. It is NOT prerendered, even though it looks like it. Also, taken into account that it hasn't been in production all that long, this is super impressive.
He might be right, but pointing a finger at a large group of people and saying "Nyah, Nyah, the fabric that you culture was created on is wrong."
Their response should be "God created Evolution".
I didn't even walk out on Cabin Boy, but I wanted to walk out of this one. I can imagine this discussion during the filming:
"Hey, maybe we should make this movie goofy slapstick hilarious fun?" "No, lets make it a serious comedy" "Ok, how about this, I'll shoot half the movie my way, you shoot half the movie your way, and we'll just slap it all together" "Cool Beans"
The reason Linux doesn't get viruses is that the morons who would take the time to write a virus, don't want to hurt the Linux brand(?). Those who would like to, don't know Linux enough to be able to, and by the time they learn, they realize that it's better. My 2 drachmas (been playing Zeus too much)
It's time to disband the patent office... seriously, since everything goes to court anyway, how hard would it be to go to court, say "I have this documented that I have done it first" and be done... it could be like traffic court, quick, simple, easy, no appeals, no BS.
The current patent system just doesn't work anymore.
This is my proverbial straw... the general public is gonna need a much bigger one though, unfortunately.
I think it's sad that the persons family has to pay all that money to lawyers *shiver*, but I also think that there is a valuable lesson in this - nobody likes a squealer.
They used to tell kids this in shows like Leave It To Beaver, or Ozzie and Harriet, in fact, I even remember an episode of Full House like that, but look at the sitcoms and garbage we have on TV now... are any shows on TV family oriented with good moral values? It's time to get rid of the TV folks, it's not the handy-dandy babysitter it once was. Television has turned into a whiz-bang-centric cesspool of garbage, while entertaining, is not for anyone under the age of 18 (Yes, there are always exceptions ex. PBS, Discovery).
I also find it interesting that if there is a big problem in society, I instictly blame television right away without even thinking about it... kinda makes you wonder.
...that manufacturers would get on the ball letting their target audience know about these types of things. Since I read this story, I've seen multiple websites that claim to have or manufacture these simple devices, but how come nobody has ever heard of them before Slashdot? All they had to do was send you guys a heads up, right?
I guess IBMs innovation is to add the key ring, which IMHO is what is going to make these babies popular.../me runs off to buy a few...
Yes, you can have encryption, but any Radio Shack geek can get the equipment to be a node on your network, most likely an invisible one and start cracking err... hacking? (simantics )
Anybody who implimented this sort of thing and claims that he/she "didn't know" should be fired. Nuff Said.
Nuff said. They could have easily made the ending different and made everyone happy. Yeah, it's nice to see a movie with balls like that, but I was dissapointed, much like I was dissapointed with the end of Cast Away... bleh.
I know for a fact that Exchange doesn't support mass mailing lists out of the box. I'm sure there is a multi-thousand dollar add-on that will enable it, but you wanted reasons, and this is one, unless you keep a Nix box around just for that purpose.
Good question... Concentric used to have Shell accounts... then the box died one day and you get a nice message when you try to logon to it that basically says "It broke, so we threw out the idea". Which is lazy as hell, which is why I can't wait to get DSL. Let me know y'all...
A method in which the sellor and sellee converse in person and exchange monetary units, hereby refered to as money, for goods and services.
Example: A man walks into an umbrella shop, picks out a nice umbrella and walks up the the counter where a device called a 'cash register' is used to 'ring up' the 'sale'. 'Money' is exchanged for said umbrella, the 'cash register' prints a reciept, and the transaction is complete.
Isn't this basically what deflector shields on Star Trek are? Basically an energy field around the ship that would zap small particles that could rip the hull open. Sweet.
Instead of making Yahoo block the French, why not have the French block Yahoo? I mean, Yahoo is an American institution, why should French laws apply to it? Plus, if they feel so strongly about it, they should be the ones doing the blocking...
If they are decent programmers, I'd suggest having them program things over the network. (Hopefully your school is more forgiving than mine was. In BASIC Class my classmate got EXPELLED for trying to make a simple computer to computer chat program... which basically typed out the message "Hello World" to every computer on the network.)
A simple IRC like server and clients should keep them busy for a while. If that doesn't phase them, I'd seriously just give em all A's and let em play Half-Life the rest of the semester. Or try someone elses idea. Good Luck;-)
I believe the term 'go fuck yourself' would apply here.

and if that isn't the way they work, there has to be a way to turn all that energy into electricity.

...and so I sat through that P.O.S. movie. Bah...

Not junk mail... the free postage for return envelopes... I know I like it when I don't have to use an overpriced stamp...
Haven't you guys ever heard the expression, "All it takes is a few assholes to fuck things up for everyone else"?
If you start doing this, ALL companies will stop providing this basic (albeit expected) service. Don't be an ass.
