seem to miss the point. The 'ordinary user' synonymous with the 'average person' which is to say, stupid. Dumb people are never going to (a) recognize the need for a change like linux, (b) be capable of making the switch, or (c) care in the first place. Thats why it will never happen. Theres nothing the developers and designers can do about that.
The point is most certainly not to be nervous and uncomfortable. The colbert report is funny because he takes extreme opinions that he doesnt personally espouse, and express them confidently and unapologetically, to poke fun at those who genuinely hold them.
Actually, the best definition for a theory would be an assertion about that which is unobservable. Evolution as a way to explain the origin of life is quite unobservable due to its place in history, and thus NOT a fact.
Good point, but it depends on your music preferences. I, personally, dont tend to buy albums for one or two songs. All my albums ive bought because i love the artist and their music in general. And, thanks to the wonderfull internet, i dont make un-informed music purchasing decisions any more =]
Ive been using itunes since its windows release, but its so freaking bloated its not funny. The thing that really matters with a media player anymore is the media library capabilities. Ive been able to overlook how slow iTunes runs for that reason, and if winamp can do the same things while not choking my computer, then three cheers
Depending on your level of religeosity, it is easy to argue that LOTR is either the first or second best/most important work in the entire body of western literature.
Why ive never seen it come up in any kind of literature class is beyond me.
my personall inner greed and lazy are fairly evenly matched. the only way i get to work consistently is that my inner lazy recognizes that it needs money to keep it comfortable.
when school starts back in a month it will be hell though, because ive got to teach my greed that education is a tool for its gratification. so far it has had trouble with that particular concept.
theres been a lot of talk here about how using long words doesnt make you intelligent, and how using vernacular or short words or whatever might make you sound dumb, and a lot of other opinions.
heres mine.
to communicate effectively in general, you need to be able to vary your vocabulary depending on the audience. for example, when i write a research paper for a college class, i try to use fairly high vocabulary.
when im talking on instant messages, i say 'sup ho.' and other such pithy and offensive constructions.
when im playing everquest things like 'dont pull yet i gotta med.' and '34m' and 'DING!'
so basically, if the public at large wants to talk about computers, they need to learn the lingo. if they dont, fuckem. they should take the trouble to learn the lingo, just like the rest of us do for whatever we need to communicate about.
T3 had too many gratuitous arnold-lines. "Ill be back" "She'll be back" "Get off." "I like this car."
i mean damn. But other than that, and a few other quibbles, it was a GREAT movie. I mean, it was a Terminator movie at heart. It was about the inevitablity of a horrific event that everyone was trying to stop, but couldnt. It even had a touch of the unwilling messiah theme going.
Really for me it all hinged on the end. The end of Terminator 1 was bleak but hopefull. Judgement Day was coming, but Sarah would have a son who would save the human race.
The end of Terminator 2 was bleak but hopeful. They thought theyd stopped judgement day, but they couldnt be quite sure.
If T3 had ended with a happy, for-sure avoidance of judgement day, i wouldve hated the movie, because it wouldve abandoned the theme. but no. Thankfully, the end of Terminator 3 was bleak but hopeful. Judgement day was fucking inevitable, and the best you could do was to do your best afterwards.
so i thought it was great, and i consider myself a fair if not good judge of movies. make your own choice of course.
The megaman x series on SNES was one of my favorite series ever, allthough the playstation incarnations were severely lacking imho. I welcome any chance for capcom to get it right again.
Anyone else get the secret StreetFighter moves in the old megaman x games? Now that was cool. I nearly shit my pants the first time I made megaman do a 'Hadoken'.
Actually, the reason that disk drives for the NES and N64 didn't make it to america was because of the rampant piracy in asia.
Also, the Famicom Disk System made the creation of unlicenced NES games all the easier, so there are a considerable number of pr0n games and such floating around.
Ahem. Thats not what I heard listening to the beginning of the second quarter conference call.
Listen to the conference call on the SCO investor relations website. Correct me if im wrong, but i remember them saying that SCO had posted its lowest losses yet, which is a far cry from profitability.
And food for thought: If a SCO official is willing to lie in an interview about their financial status, doesent that make you even more apt to believe their lying about the whole linux thing??
well, i got used to this kind of thing reading starwars novels, which phonetically spell C3P0 as seethreepio or some such nonsense. i can stomach the use of Jay and Kay. But this 'Sid' Business is unforgivable. MIB is one of the greatest pieces of moving literature of all time, and to make a mistake that glaring cannot be forgivin. boo to the author of this review. boo, i say
well, the reason that theyre putting out a crappy first track this way is so they dont risk any quality music on a new concept.
logic would dictate that if the craptrack proves the concept to be sound, then they will allow better music to be released in such a way soon.
now, of course, this does assume that they act based on logic, which is a sketchy assumption. but sometimes profit is a great enough motive to instill a little logic in to folks...

ibm will probably just steal the MS office code like they stole that SCO code...
*wink*

Theres a good reason that it has sold so well.

heh yea ive got that dvd. thank god they cut that.
not only did it cut out sequel possibilities, but that ending just rubbed me the wrong way.
maybe its just me, but i like dark scifi...

so are we going to change our name for junk email now?
lets call it McRibs...
geez you are a dirty hippie...
always remember, bombs can save more lives than they take. (but they have no moral obligation to)
ive never seen a simple gui app written in java that could run 60fps on any machine!
somehow i have my doubts...
...for a traditional side-scrolling megaman game.

The company is profitable.
